Annual Giving — Hawk Mountain Council

Help a young person discover confidence, character, and purpose.
Each year, Scouting America’s Hawk Mountain Council empowers more than 6,000 youth across Berks and Schuylkill counties through outdoor adventures, leadership training, and service to others. Your gift to Friends of Scouting keeps programs strong, safe, and accessible—so no child is turned away for financial need.

Your gift stays local and drives real impact:

  • Leadership & life skills that last a lifetime

  • Outdoor education and camp experiences at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation

  • Training and support for youth and adult leaders who mentor the next generation

When you give, you’re not just funding a program—you’re shaping futures. Join parents, alumni, and community partners who believe in the power of Scouting to build resilient leaders and stronger neighborhoods.

Shoot For A Cause – Trap Shoot

Shoot For A Cause – Trap Shoot
August 14, 2026
South End Gun Club, 5330 Lorane Rd, Reading, PA 19606.

Presented by:

Join us on August 14, 2026, at the South End Gun Club for the Scouting America Shoot For A Cause Trap Shoot, a fun, competitive, and impactful event supporting the young women and men of Scouting America Hawk Mountain Council.

This exciting day of shooting and camaraderie brings together outdoor enthusiasts, community leaders, and supporters who believe in investing in the next generation of leaders. Proceeds from the event directly benefit local Scouting programs that build character, leadership, and life skills for youth across our communities.

The day begins at 10:00 AM with registration and access to a practice station. At 11:00 AM, participants will gather for the opening ceremony and mandatory safety briefing, followed immediately by the start of the competition.

Each participant will shoot a 75-target course, culminating in an exciting Shoot-Off finale to determine top honors. Following the competition, participants are invited to enjoy an after-event reception featuring a raw bar, social time, and awards ceremony, a perfect opportunity to celebrate, connect, and recognize outstanding performances.

Every shooter will receive a commemorative participant gift as a thank-you for supporting Scouting.

Important Note: Ammo will not be provided for this event. Participants are responsible for bringing their own ammunition.

Come out, take your best shot, and help make a lasting difference in the lives of local youth.

Heritage Club

The Hawk Mountain Council has created a unique Heritage Club. A special club to recognize individuals who strongly believe in the purposes of the Boy Scouts of America and who want to ensure the financial ability of the Hawk Mountain Council to expand its activities and bring greater excellence to all its Scouting programs.

The name, Heritage Club, is appropriate. Members of this club will perpetuate the strong heritage of values, which Scouting has instilled in generation after generation of American youth.

The Heritage Club recognizes donors who have committed to placing the Hawk Mountain Council in their estate plans or have provided an outright gift of $5,000 or more to the Council Endowment Fund. Outright gifts include cash or securities and deferred gifts include bequests, insurance, property, BSA gift annuities, trusts, and the BSA pooled income fund.

There are three levels of recognition:

  • Bronze – $5,000 – $25,000
  • Silver – $25,000 – $50,000
  • Gold – over $50,000

For more information on our Heritage Club, please use the contact form below.

Memorials and Tributes

The Hawk Mountain Council has a Memorial/Tribute Fund established for its Scouters and supporters to make living and lasting tax-deductible contributions to the Scouting program. Contributions may be made for any amount as a living memorial or lasting tribute to a departed relative or in honor of someone.

Condolences, recognition, or congratulations may be expressed through the use of the Memorial/Tribute Fund, when material gifts or remembrances may not be desirable or appropriate.

Upon receipt of a contribution, the Council will mail a nice card to the family or group in whose memory or honor the gift is made and send an acknowledgment to you.

If you would like to make a contribution to the Hawk Mountain Council In Honor or In Memory of someone, please click here to download the memorials and tributes contribution card and mail the form to the Hawk Mountain Council, BSA – 5027 Pottsville Pike, Reading PA 19605. Or make an online contribution.

Please contact Duane Crouse with any questions at 610-926-3406.

Planned Giving

Leaving your legacy through a gift to Scouting may be one of the most important decisions you make in your lifetime.

As a donor to the Hawk Mountain Council, you can use your giving to achieve personal goals, enhance your financial security, and help shape the future of Scouting. Planned giving includes several ways for you to include charitable giving in your total financial plan. Many donors and supporters of Scouting have chosen planned giving to show their interest in supporting Scouting beyond their lifetime while realizing some tax benefits today.

As with all financial decisions, a planned gift should be designed with care. A planned giving professional should work closely and confidentially with you to ensure that your gift achieves your individual goals, and expresses your personal vision. Explore the many ways to give by visiting the BSA’s National Foundation website.

Special Initiatives of the Hawk Mountain Council

Camp Scholarships

The Hawk Mountain Council believes that all youth should have the opportunity to attend camp regardless of their social or economic background. To that end, the council camping and finance committee has established a Camp Scholarship program to help offset the cost of attending camp. Applicants are encouraged to find a way to support themselves as much as possible through fundraising and savings. If they are short, the council is happy to help. On average, over 200 Scouts receive assistance each year.

Consider making a contribution to the Hawk Mountain Council’s Camp Scholarship Fund and help a young man or women attend camp.

Service to At-Risk and Underprivileged Youth

The Hawk Mountain Council is committed to ensuring that all young people have an opportunity to join Scouting, regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood, or cultural or ethnic background. [Read more…]
