WARNING: Possible Hobbit movie spoilers.
At Tolkien Weekly, Dwimordene offered an excellent explanation of what Thranduil was doing on top of that cliff, looking down, just as the Dwarves were fleeing Erebor: http://tolkien-weekly.livejournal.com/954907.html
I suggested to her that she should write another drabble from the Dwarves' point of view, she challenged me to do it myself and I did (http://tolkien-weekly.livejournal.com/955623.html).
Now archiving that drabble here below the cut.

Title: Ill-gotten Wealth
Characters/Pairing: Dwarves of Erebor, Thranduil
Rating: Gen
Warnings: none
Book/Source: The Hobbit (movie-verse)
Disclaimer: I'm neither JRRT nor PJ. I hope nobody minds.
Summary: In response to
dwimordene_2011's The Wealth of Kingdoms, which is written from Thranduil's POV. The dwarves have their say.
Thieves, he thinks, murderers, and it shows in his face. Thranduil does not respect steel or its makers, handles Erebor-forged swords as if they were shoddy kitchen knives patched up in some Gondorian backyard. The work of the hands of the heirs of Durin!

Date: 2013-02-13 05:08 pm (UTC)I like this. It's very, very Dwarven. They have every reason to be as proud as Elves, and often get looked down upon (no pun intended, oops) by fans. When I sit back and take the big picture in, I can see how both sides came with assumptions, histories (both races have long memories), and so much pride.
It's always amazing to me that anyone can write so much in short a span as a drabble. The last sentence is just perfect!

Dwimordene has actually in the meantime written another mini-series about the Dwarves of Erebor! It's called The Golden Rule and lives here:
