Carry That Weight Master Post

Pairing: Primarily Blaine/Kurt; other minor background pairings.

Summary: When Blaine's friend Susan drags him to an American Idol audition, he's not even trying to get past the first round-- much less into the top ten. And after getting through Disco Week, avoiding the media, and dealing with his very absent parents, Blaine's not sure he even wants to win-- although falling in love might make up for a lot of that. And maybe, just maybe, he can win this thing.

His knuckles are split and there's a fading bruise high on his left cheekbone, but he meets Sid's eyes squarely, blinking in the sudden light.
"Hi," Sid finds himself saying, almost inanely. "I'm Sidney Crosby. We're here to help."

(Also, I am aware that not all of the ages are quite what they should be-- chalk it up to planets having different year-lengths.)

Notes: It’s not a lie that I love fandom meta like a LOT. So when we came up with the idea for this fic I said “WE SHOULD WRITE IT AS A FANDOM PRIMER" and lo, it was so. Few of the links are live, because I didn't have that kind of time (although that may change). All of the fancasts here are pretty damn quick-and-dirty; sorry if our vision doesn’t match yours and can we just pretend that Maisie Williams has red hair? This entire thing was written in one night and is essentially the Song of the Lioness but set in the modern world and with hockey.

(This is mostly for the beyond_dapper Secret Santa, but also for anyone who reads this and is inclined to get me a present. Also so I can print it out for my mom.)

1. A souffle pan. (Because I always have to borrow one! And souffles are fun to make.)
2. Anything handmade. Socks, scarves, jam, cookies, bread-- I love hand-made things.
3. Socks! I love socks in general, especially silly ones.
4. Yarn and/or knitting needles. (I am a total, total fiber snob, though-- I really have trouble using yarn that is entirely acrylic, and using metal needles is physically painful to me. I WILL BE HAPPY WITH ANYTHING, but natural fibers are preferred. Also spinning fiber, because I do All the Crafts.)
5. Paper quilling supplies! It's a craft I've never tried, and I'd love to.
6. Canning supplies-- lids, jar rings, labels, pectin, etc.-- I imagine jars would be fairly difficult to ship (and as a bonus, if you send me canning supplies, I'll send you a jar or two of whatever I end up putting in them.)
7. General kitchen/cooking supplies. If you happened to have, say, a two-quart AllClad pot lying around that wasn't being used, I might just propose marriage to you.
8. To Court the King-- it's a card game, and I can't find it *anywhere.*
9. Fic! I would love to get fic. In Glee, I mostly ship canon pairings (and I love being able to say that), and I am a huge fan of Blaine angst with a happy/hopeful ending.
10. Mix CDs! I like music, in general-- if you want more specifics, please let me know!

(+1: I'd love a digital camera-- mine died a sad, sad death, and I've been using my phone's camera, but it doesn't work as well as I want it to. I am well aware that it's out of price range for most people and the b_d exhcange. I'd be incredibly happy with a used one, as well.)

I AM BACK FROM THE MOUNTAINS.

I have caught up on LiveJournal (it only took me to ?skip=270!)

I am attempting to catch up on Tumblr (this may not go so well).

While IN THE MOUNTAINS, I wrote 3000 words on the next chapter of (Def)inition and 1500 words on the Blaine Big Bang (IT IS OVER 60K, WE NEED TO FINISH IT GODDAMNIT.)

Did I miss anything interesting?
