dsss letter placeholder post

*skids in very late*

Hiiii Santa!! I have no idea if you're reading this, since it's already Dec 2. My job ATE MY LIFE and a large chunk of my soul in November. Good news is I'll love anything you create. Thank you SO MUCH for participating in this challenge - it's one of my favorite challenges out there. =) If you're somehow reading this, but not already started, but dying of curiosity, here are some things I like: AU, happy endings, emotions, established relationships, first times, reflections and introspections, characters being badassess/competent/good at their jobs, friendships that aren't about UST, friendships that are about UST because OMG these people should be boning, small acts of kindness, winks at canon, completely new settings/fusions/crossovers, and couples being absolute dorks together because the other one just gets them, so it's okay. Does that help? I hope that helps. And even moreso, I hope that does hurt. Because, honestly, I'll love whatever it is. =)

yarn heart

family: the one you choose (fanworks fundraising for aka)

I've met a lot of really wonderful people since I've been in fandom. Some of the best people I've ever known are ones who I never call by their given names. And one of my favorite people is [personal profile] akamine_chan. She is incredibly smart and talented, and she has a good heart and a quick wit. I adore her. And she's having a really, really terrible year. She posted this update today, and this fanworks fundraising drive. I want to do everything I can to help, so I thought about what I could do. I took a really honest look at my life and realized I could not in good consciousness offer fic for this, because it'll be a miracle if I can finish any of the things I've already committed to writing, and my muses have been incredibly fickle lately.

So what else is there? I can't art or podfic or make icons, but I knit things. All kinds of things. Except for socks. Socks are my kryptonite. But I do shawls and scarves and armwarmers and hats and bags. I'm pretty bad at remembering to take pictures, but you can see some examples on ravelry, AO3, IMadeAThing, and my journal. Or ask [personal profile] akamine_chan or [personal profile] andeincascade or [personal profile] mizface - they have stuff I've knit.

I have no idea how to price hypothetical future knitting, so let's try this. I'm going to list and link to thing's I've made before, and you can figure out where whatever you want would fit on the scale. Alternately, give me a specific pattern to price. Or, let's talk about your ideas and firm up a plan and then we'll price stuff.

One very important caveat: work is kicking me in the ass this month. Things will be knit in a first-requested-first-done order, but probably nothing will be done before mid-August at the earliest.

A simple hat, without color changes, cables, or lace (kind of like
this) would be $15
A more complicated one, with color changes, or with cables or lace (like
this one I've knit before), or with extra bits (like the zombie hat I made for miz) would be $25.

This is a market bag I've made a couple times before - one is kicking around my car still (I'll try to find a pic) and one for the MJ raffle last year. It's made of sturdy cotton yarn and I'd price it at $25.

A simple scarf without cables, lace, or color changes (like the
green one here): $40
A complicated scarf (with
cables like this one I've made, or lace, or color changes like the impala scarf I made): $65

A simple shawl,
like this one I've made several times, would be $50 (not for complexity, but for the lovely, lush alpaca yarn)
A complicated shawl
like this one that took me 9 months to make the first time, would be at least $120 because of the amount of yarn and the pain-in-the-ass factor of that effing beading.

Sound reasonable? Leave a comment if you have any questions/concerns or if you want to work out a deal for a specific pattern. Or if you want to talk about any other kind of piece, like arm warmers or potholders or coasters or whatever.

ETA: Okay, I'm full up on knitting projects that I could possibly manage in a timely manner. But please check out the other offerings at Aka's, including socks by melusina, a scarf by shinetheway, fingerless gloves by theladysnarkydame, and knit accessories by elaineofshalott. Everyone has been so generous with their time and skill and their cash. It makes my heart so happy, y'all!

c6dvd reveal

I don't usually claim my c6dvd stuff, because I'm kind of in love with the mystery of it all. But this is pretty much the only fandom/creative thing I've done in AGES and it made me ridiculously happy to play. So, I made the one with the cars. You're all SHOCKED, I can tell. =P Blame miz for sending this prompt my way - she knows I have feeeeeeelings about cars, y'all. She KNEW I would pick this. She's the very best enabler. =)

Made for Seascribe for the prompt: Due South: GTO/Riv
It ended up being Ray/Ray and tongue-in-cheek Riv/Goat

So what I sent was five envelopes, numbered because this needed to be revealed in stages:

Envelope #1 was some fic that set the stage:

Envelop #2 is RayK's take on things:

And this is what he finds (envelope #3):

And then... (envelope #4):

And finally, envelope #5, which Vecchio finds propped up against the coffee maker the next morning:

Man, I love c6dvd. Can't wait to see what everyone else made!!

c6dvd squee: for realsies

HIIIIIII! Sorry it's taken so long to post this. This cold I've had has just absolutely destroyed any energy I have this week, and I just fall asleep as soon as I get home. But not today! Today I am posting squeefully about my c6dvd Valentine! You guys, it looks like Darryl Van Horne has sent an invitation/valentine to his ladies of Eastwick and, whoops, it got misdirected and arrived at my doorstep instead. (Along with a few neighbor's mail, because IRL my mailman is made of FAIL and will give someone all the mail for everyone on the whole street and then just skip everyone else. This is an ongoing thing. I have had WORDS with people about this. >=/ Grrr.) But back to Darryl. Why tell when I can show though. Check it out:

The front of the card:

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, isn't Darryl the smoothest motherfarmer?? This, THIS is why I put Eastwick on my c6dvd list every year. =) Also, you guys, when are we doing our Eastwick rewatch? Because that's a thing that should happen. *nods enthusiastically*

c6dvd mini-squee

I have a completely AWFUL cold and can't stand to be upright looking at the computer for long, but I wanted to post a preview to my squeeful post (a squeeview?) re c6dvd. A card that Darryl Van Horne sent to his witchy ladies got misdirected and ended up at my doorstep instead. He is apparently planning a night of fine dining, excellent wine, and sexytiems for the ladies of Eastwick! I will scan/photograph and post later this week when my nose isn't falling off my face.

Aside: I used to have an icon called "Paul Gross is pretty", which I really need to find again, because it's perfect for that post.

I'm doing well, other then the whole being-sick thing. HOpe things are going well for y'all too. *hugs*

snowflake catch up: day 2 - promote 3 comms

Well, somehow I managed to fall grossly behind on Snowflakes already. The worst part is I have posts for most days already written in my head, but no energy to make them happen in, you know, reality. Or the internet. Whatever. I am feeling better (FINALLY!). I'm currently in Day 8 of The Cold From Hell. It's now just a hacky-cough bronchitis thing. My abs ache like whoa from the coughing and the puking, and I'm still tired all the time, but it's getting better each day.

Day 2: In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.

First off, I want to promote [community profile] snowflake_challenge. I don't have the words to articulate how much I love Aka's brain and how honored I was when she and Luce and Ande invited me along for the ride, or how blown away I am every year by the response. I tried to explain why I love it so much here, but even that's not quite right. It's more, to me.

The second thing I want to promote is also something I'm a mod of. Oops. But I freaking adore ds_c6d_bigbang SO MUCH I can't not talk about it. It's the first actively fannish thing I did, the first place I raised my hand and said, "um, maybe I want to be a writer?", and it is the most welcoming place I've ever been. Aka and Luce were mods when I started, and I've never felt so supported and nurtured. Miz and I are modding now, and we try so hard to keep that feeling going. The community is incredible. Everyone is so supportive of each other, and so excited about each other's works. It makes my heart happy.

The third thing I want to rec is [community profile] amplificathon. Because PODFIC! I don't have nearly as much time as I'd like to listen to podfic these days, and I have about a 6 month backlog of saved/downloaded things I haven't gotten a chance to listen to yet. /o\ But I still drool over every new thing that comes across my reading page.

snowflake day 1: self-rec

Hey everyone! Happy New Year! I managed to start the year off right - with a cold. Boo. /o\ But I'm totally going to post my snowflake thingy before collapsing into bed with a bottle of NyQuil, because I ♥ the snowflake challenge like whoa. If you haven't heard of it, you should check it out: [community profile] snowflake_challenge

Day One
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

*Hemming and hawing about how self-reccing is hard and how I-Am-Not-Worthy redacted. Because fuck that. 2014 will be the year where I'm all: this is me, this is my shit, make of it what you will. Recs under the cut.*

c6dvd squee

If that title made no sense to you, then, briefly: the due South/Canadian fandoms have an in-character Valentines Day card exchange each year. It's my favorite fannish thing, and it's incredibly awesome. You should play with us next year. =) Anyway, I got not one but TWO cards today!

The first is from Duck to Dan (Callum Keith Rennie and Jim Allodi in the movie Wilby Wonderful). It's a series of 3 double-sided collages of words Duck cut out of a magazine. This is what they look like:

Transcription of Duck's message:

And here's Dan's valentine to Duck:

Transcription of Dan's note:

And here are Dan's hearts:

Collapse )

OMGOMGOMGOMOGM *flappy Kermit flail arms* This made me ridiculously happy. Like, truly epic levels of smiling happening here. Because Duck, with his lack of words, but deep deep feelings. And Dan, with his distractability and endearing sappy side. And their own language, the things they don't need to say, not just because they're sad, but because they already know and they have all this shorthand. And the way their life together is a living, breathing thing here - mornings and projects in the shed and their family of choice. And, and, CRAFTING=LOVE!! These two made craft projects o'love for one another, y'all! That warms my heart like you wouldn't believe. =D

update, plus fic

Hi, hey, hello! Sorry I've been MIA for so long. Work's been absolutely nuts and RL hasn't been any better. But things are looking to be a lot more calm for the next few weeks. I'm catching up on all the errands etc I've been putting off, and I'm also trying to get back in the swing of writing. (I am hoping to make a lot of progress on my dS/c6d big bang in the next month or two.) I've got ideas for several other of the prompts already, but I thought I'd start collecting and posting these ficlets.

...And now I'm off to knit more on my [community profile] imadeathing  project. (Ack, just one week left!) Fortunately for me, there's a Top Gear mini-marathon on BBC America, which is my absolute favorite knit-while-watching show. How are you all?  What'd I miss?
