Profile
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Mozenrath is quite tall, a little over six feet, and reed-thin, though the layers he wears bulk him up a little. Under them, he's bony to the point of looking borderline sickly, but he tries to project an image of better health and strength than he really has.
2. How old is he?
22.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
He has very straight, upright posture when he's around others, trying to look imperious. When he's on his own, he's usually hunched over books or draped awkwardly over furniture.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
He's barely holding it together. The magical gauntlet he wears has eaten his right arm down to bleached bone, all the way up to the elbow, and it leeches energy and nutrients and general life force from him to power itself. He's mostly capable of hiding the draining effects of it from others, at least short-term, but he knows he doesn't have more than a few more years to live if he doesn't find some kind of workaround.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
He's graceful when he tries to be, and a gangly mess of limbs when caught off-guard.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
He doesn't spend a lot of time around other people, and when he does, he tends to be antagonizing them in some way, so he doesn't honestly know if people think he's attractive. But he's tall, with delicate features and really nice hair, and he dresses well, so he thinks he's pretty hot shit.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Mozenrath is the kind of pale that comes from spending months at at time without ever seeing sunlight. His natural complexion is olive, and when he is exposed to sunlight, he tans quickly, but that doesn't happen often. Usually he looks a little corpselike.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Black, loosely curled, very thick, and usually mostly covered by a turban.
9. What color are his eyes?
Very deep brown, nearly black.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Just the skeletal right arm, and some varied scars here and there from magical beasts he's wrangled. There's a longer, nastier scar along his left side and hip from where he was pinned under a big chunk of falling rock when an enemy sorcerer destroyed his citadel.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
Mozenrath's wardrobe isn't varied, but it's opulent to the point of flamboyance. He wears the same basic thing every day--a sash over a tabard over a tunic over harem pants, with multiple collars and cravats layered on top of that and a long cape that he likes to twirl, all in shades of navy and black and gold, not showing a single bit of skin except for his face and one hand--but it's all rendered in very fine materials.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
They're very well tailored, and designed to project wealth and power, so he makes a point of looking comfortable in them.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
When he's alone in the depths of the citadel, he'll leave off the turban and sometimes the cravat, but otherwise, he's dressed to the nines at all times. He feels more comfortable wearing a lot of layers--part of it's simply for warmth, because his kingdom is a chilly place and he's too thin and sickly to maintain much body heat.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
None of the above. He just wears a sort of wrap-like loincloth under his trousers.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
His voice has a smooth, plummy sort of tone, neither high-pitched nor really deep, though he's capable of making it deeper when he wants to intimidate. The one thing he can't really do is make himself sound older, and his voice always marks him as barely more than a teenager as soon as he opens his mouth. It doesn't do wonders for making people take him seriously.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
He likes to maintain a smug air of superiority, and he has a flair for the dramatic, so he doesn't usually raise his voice unless his plans are going awry--he tends to speak clearly and evenly, projecting as if putting on a show.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
His accent isn't regional, but it's deliberately cultivated to sound educated and upper-class. To people he's talking to in English via magical translation, it will sound American.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
That's a tricky question. He comes from a fictional land that's supposed to resemble the Middle East, so I'm going to say that Arabic is the predominant language of the Seven Deserts and is Mozenrath's native tongue. He's also capable of reading Greek, Latin, Aramaic, a bit of Hebrew and some Sanskrit.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Only when reciting spell incantations.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
Mozenrath is the kind of person who plans out all his conversations in advance and argues with himself in the shower so that he'll be prepared for any debates that might break out. He does not do well when things don't go as he's planned.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
He's witty and very well-spoken, under most circumstances, but that breaks down somewhat when he's extremely angry and/or losing a fight.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Mozenrath's intelligence is pretty much all he's got. He doesn't have inborn magical powers, which is why he relies on the artifacts and incantations that he spends all his time researching, and he's no good at all when it comes to physical combat, because he's a sickly twig, so book smarts are the sole source of his power. He's a cunning strategist, but his street smarts aren't a match for people who've actually had to live by them.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He's not the best at adapting when things go pear-shaped. He really does need time to think and plan, or he'll lose the upper hand very quickly and everything will fall apart.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
He's more logical, sometimes to the point of forgetting to account for human nature in his plans, and idealistic only in the sense that he has unrealistically grandiose goals for himself.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
He was apprenticed to a powerful sorcerer at the age of five, and had learned enough to overthrow him by seventeen. Ever since then, he's been self-taught, his preferred field being magical archaeology--his power derives mostly from the long-lost, legendary artifacts he tracks down and learns how to use. He has a good grounding in most forms of magic--spells, potions, et cetera--and considers himself something of a historian, and he can read six languages, if not speak them all fluently.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
He's not so much interested in learning for the sake of learning--he focuses on learning things that will directly help him amass more power.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
He's an introvert who wants to be an emperor. His ultimate goal is to rule the Seven Deserts, but he'd really prefer if he could do it without having to actually interact with any of his new subjects. He likes having mindless undead servants because he can sew their mouths shut and never have to converse with any of them, and he's happily spent half a decade completely alone in his citadel with nobody but his familiar for company.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
He's nowhere near as even-keeled as he wants to think he is. He's relatively easy to fluster and even easier to piss off, but he's as ambitious and driven as it's possible for a person to be.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Suspicious and calculating, always trying to figure out if he can use them to further his own goals in some way, or if they're likely to be a threat to him. If not, he doesn't give a shit.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
More likely to act. He's a control freak who likes things to be on his terms. If he's reacting, he's already lost some control, and he doesn't like that.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight, but he's not totally unwilling to cut his losses and run if a situation really looks unsalvageable. His instinct for self-preservation isn't the best, but he does have one.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
He claims not to have a sense of humor, but he's big on the dry sarcasm and the snappy one-liners.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Oh boy. Well, he's clearly not right in the head, but I would hesitate to diagnose him with anything in particular. He's a sadistic megalomaniac, but possibly not quite a full-on sociopath.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
Overthrowing Destane is the one that really says it all. Mozenrath takes great pride in that, and nobody can say Destane didn't deserve it--but he was still the closest thing to a father that Mozenrath ever knew, and Mozenrath really didn't have to go the extra mile and make him an undead slave.
14. What does he fear?
Death and helplessness. He's not sure which one frightens him more.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
To rule the Seven Deserts, an ambition he never shuts up about, and to find a way to become immortal--though he'd settle, reluctantly, for simply reversing the gauntlet's effects so that he can live a normal lifespan without having to sacrifice his power.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
Anything that would hint at vulnerability, really, like the pain and resentment he still feels at having been abandoned by his mother, or the humiliation of having been constantly reminded of that by Destane, or the real depth of his fear of dying.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
He doesn't remember them. He never knew his father at all, and aside from a few snatches of lullaby, his primary memory of his mother is the day she sold him to Destane as an apprentice. He can't picture her face anymore, but that doesn't bother him. As far as he's concerned, his life before Destane adopted and renamed him is irrelevant now, to the point where he has to think for a moment before remembering the name that his mother gave him. (Not that he wants to, though, as a matter of pride.)
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
He may or may not be Aladdin's half-brother. Canon avoided taking a definitive stand on that point.
There's just a bit of sibling rivalry there.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
He doesn't know of any blood relatives at all, his relation to Aladdin included. As far as he's aware, he's an only child and probably an orphan by now. He's wrong about that, and his mother still hopes to see him again someday, but he may never know that.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Mozenrath barely recognizes other people as people, let alone considers them family.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
The closest thing he has to a friend at all is his loyal familiar, Xerxes the flying eel. Acquiring and bonding with a familiar was part of his training, a rite of passage at the age of twelve, and he spent a week wading through an enchanted bog to find one.
6. Does he have other close friends?
Nope.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
It's...not his strong suit, no.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Neither, because he doesn't have either, but in theory, he'd probably prioritize family just slightly.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
He's never been anything but single.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Not at the moment.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
He's never really had one. Aladdin was the first person he ever felt really fascinated by and compelled to pursue further interaction with after being rejected, and it wasn't all about gaining access to the Genie, but even being unaware of their blood relation, he wouldn't call it a crush. Neither is the grudging respect he's eventually developed for Jasmine, or so he'd insist.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
Power, money and some kind of noble title, if he's going to bother at all.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
He wouldn't have the slightest idea what to do with a child, and would prefer never to go near one at all if he could help it. He wouldn't even want one as an heir--he'd rather keep researching how to gain immortality than waste time raising a kid.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Mozenrath doesn't have anything but.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
He's not exactly asexual, and if he were going to form a sexual connection with someone, it could be with a man or a woman, but he wouldn't know how to answer the question if you asked him.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
He doesn't think about it much, and he's never had it. He feels like having a sex drive is the kind of human weakness he should be above, and the fact that he spends most of his time alone helps curb it, but he does sometimes yearn for human contact.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
I'm just going to say he's a Capricorn. Everyone hates Capricorns.
--the player, a Capricorn
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Mozenrath is more of an antitheist than an atheist. It's not so much about disputing the existence of gods as it is about rejecting them whether they exist or not, because he loathes the idea of any force he couldn't outwit or overpower if he had to--especially as he imagines most gods would take a dim view of his penchant for reanimating the dead.
The only time he takes religion into consideration at all is when forming plans for conquest, thinking he should probably focus on the more secular of the Seven Deserts first, because the more devoutly Islamic ones are going to have a much bigger problem with him and his whole vibe.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
The concepts of "morals" and "ethics" as most people view them don't exactly apply to Mozenrath, as he'd be the first to insist. But he does have an internal notion of fairness, a sense of seething righteous anger when he thinks someone has been granted an advantage they don't deserve. He values hard work and self-improvement (even if he only recognizes that in the sense of amassing power and developing endurance), and despises laziness and complacency. He believes very firmly that might makes right.
He wouldn't want power that he felt had been dropped undeservedly into his lap, though he'd still probably feel tempted to take it and rationalize it as compensation for all his efforts that have been thwarted in the past--but he wouldn't ultimately find it satisfying, and he'd probably abandon it in favor of a power source he felt he could take more credit for.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Curious, if contemptuous. He's fascinated by Aladdin and Jasmine's worldviews and can't make heads or tails of what motivates them--it doesn't make him very much less inclined to want them dead, but he's still compelled to figure them out, and he's not any closer to doing so than he was when they first met.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
The one thing about being an evil sorcerer on the outskirts of decent society is that Mozenrath is not really a product of his (medieval-ish) time in most ways. (Not since Jasmine literally, physically kicked the sexism out of him, anyway. He has learned his lesson about underestimating women.) He'll develop grudging respect for pretty much any human who can meet him on his own level.
Non-humans, however, regardless of how intelligent or self-aware they are, don't get the courtesy of being treated like people or benefiting from Mozenrath's extremely limited sense of honor. They exist to serve humanity in whatever ways humans see fit, and that's that. Mozenrath doesn't have a particularly rational reason for believing this; he just wouldn't be able to do most of the spellwork he does if he had to feel bad about exploiting magical beings.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
He's inherited a giant empty fortress, an army of undead servants to maintain it, and enough gold and valuable artifacts from his former mentor that he won't have to worry about money for the rest of his life--if he maintains his current lifestyle, in which his only real expenditures are on clothes, books, potion reagents, and enough imported food to sustain himself and his pet eel.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
"Social status" doesn't matter to people who can do magic, Mozenrath would sneer, because he is not actually any less of a street rat by birth than Aladdin is, and might well have ended up in similarly hungry, homeless circumstances had his mother not sold him to Destane.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
