Jul. 19th, 2026 12:09 amService for Oldest Brother
Jul. 19th, 2026 12:50 amCliff came over around 11:00. John and Brianne got here somewhat later. Then the Eshelman's arrived.
Linda brought brownies and so did Martha.
Then The Kid and her boyfriend.
The rain was torrential, but had passed by 12:00. We set up behind the cottage. The only non-family there were Gretchen and Shawn but that's OK.
Cliff did a beautiful, beautiful service, then when we were halfway through the rain started again so since Betsy had said we could use her back porch we moved there to finish it, which was when John, and me, and the Kid and
By the time we finished the rain had stopped again so we went back to our cottage and the Kid took some of the ashes to send over Niagara falls like she promised him, and her boyfriend, and John together dug holes and we burried his ashes, and my parents under the tree planted in Grandpa's memory.
Then we had the coffee and tea and cookies, and brownies.
The Eshelman's left and Cliff went back to his cottage, and the rain started again, and we ended up at Nancy's cottage hanging out and having cookies.
The Kid and her boyfriend left for Canada and the falls, but said they'd come back.
After a few hours we moved to Sue's cottage where we had a family meal. And hung out there for several hours til we moved back to Nancy's. The Kid and her boyfriend were just getting back.
We stayed ant Nancy's for awhile, then went back to Sue's.
And eventually the party broke up. And
Everything was wonderful. My family is wonderful.
It was a wonderful, successful day.

Daily Happiness
Jul. 18th, 2026 09:01 pm2. I got some strawberries and grapes at the farmers market this morning. The grapes are from the same place as last time and they had fewer varieties this time, but I think they were all different ones! At least one of the ones I got was different for sure, and I think the other was as well, though it's possible that the taste just changed a bit in the intervening two weeks and it's one of the ones they had before. Supermarket grapes are still pretty dire, as are all the strawberries I've been seeing, so I was glad to get some stuff that actually tastes good.
3. Carla is home safe and sound but her arrival was delayed by about 8.5 hours. Everything was fine as of last night, but sometime in the middle of the night there was flash flooding around the Arizona/California border area and the train was stopped for hours until the rain stopped and then the tracks had to be cleared of standing water as well. Then even once they were able to move, they couldn't go at the usual pace (which is not fast to begin with) because there were other trains backed up ahead and also I think they just had to be extra careful checking the tracks. So instead of getting here at 8:15am it was 4:45pm. Thankfully she had a roomette, which is basically like a small private compartment for your seat, rather than an actual room, but is still much nicer and more comfortable than a regular seat in the main carriage. She was very glad to finally get home, though!
4. I wish I had noticed when taking the picture that the focus was on the tree rather than Tuxie so I could have taken a second one with him in focus, but I still really like this one.

Jul. 19th, 2026 03:02 pmWith general strikes and a looming oil crisis, little old New Zealand is all set to become a POLICE STATE. Honestly the news item that introduces the film was a little alarming (the newsreader playing himself, apparently). Later we hear the prime minister say they wouldn’t let the country go over to the Communists, etc, and I said to my mother ‘he forgot to say woke people’.

Jul. 19th, 2026 02:00 amPostSecret Live! Proposal
Jul. 18th, 2026 09:11 pm
The impact of the night didn’t feel real until the following day. Every moment of the proposal whisked by in a whirlwind of emotions of love and hugs and kisses. Amidst all the mix of emotions from the people around us, the one thing I felt for certain throughout the night was love; love from my fiancé, from my family, and from people who were genuinely happy for us.
-Ashley

Immediately after “popping the question,” I remember thinking how wonderful it was that Ashley knelt down to kiss me. I believe the foundation of our relationship has always been the small gestures that illustrate how much we love one another. That particular moment will be etched into my heart forever.
As I proposed, and even as we walked off stage, I remember staying completely focused on Ashley. I was never really nervous during the days leading up to the proposal, simply anxious to see the look on my beautiful fiancé’s face.
-Stephan

We felt like “rock stars” during the night’s festivities. People swarmed to us to wish us well, and inquire about every step in the planning process. With complete strangers, we were able to relive and share our journey in love thus far; from the moment we met at work through the five and a half years that had strengthened our love.

The proposal, for both of us, was nothing short of magic. It was everything we could have asked for and more.

You all have made us happy a thousand times over, and it is something we will never forget.
THANK YOU.
Sincerely,
Stephan & Ashley
