Dear Yuletide Writer

I don't know what we matched on, but thank you, thank YOU for being interested in at least one of these! These are all fandoms I discovered in the last year or so, and for which I feel there's so much still to be written and explored.

My general likes/enjoyables:
Ships, friendships, supportiveness, loyalty, 'it was you all along', tropes like 'have to share a bed' 'undercover as married' 'woke up married', friends to lovers, enemies to friends to lovers, care-taking, quiet intimacy, noisy intimacy *g*, cooking/domesticity/curtain fic, angst with a happy ending, kink negotiation, figuring stuff out, smuttiness

My general avoids/do not wants:
Death fic, angst without a happy ending, suicidal thoughts or acts as a focus of the fic, scat, non-con, underage (going with UK definition for age of consent which is 16)

AUs and crossovers/fusions
I am rather fond of AUs, depending on the type and give lots of suggestions below, but I love all these canons for a reason so it's something I'm neutral on. I prefer fusions (using the setting of another canon) to crossovers (having characters from two canons mix).

OK so this is a show I found wandering through the LGBTQ TV tag on Netflix, and swiftly fell completely in love with. I love how it subverts expectations - Arthit is the senior and seems like a bully, and Kongpob is the junior who gets leaned on for standing up to the system, but! Arthit is actually this shy rather sweet guy trying to communicate his INTENSE LOVE OF SCHOOL SPIRIT and Kongpob, initially using flirtation to embarrass, gradually realises he's falling for Arthit for real. Oh no.

I've watched SOTUS and SOTUS:S (can't find Our Skyy on YT yet boo) so something set anytime during the canon works for me. I confess I'd love to know more about how Arthit and Kongpob negotiate the sexual side of their relationship, given all their hangups and history. I'd also be really interested in something about more coming out narratives - we can see from SOTUS S that although they nearly live together, none of their parents know what's going on.

Alternatively, this would be a great one for an AU story? Historical? ABO? Royalty? We know Kongpob is from a very wealthy family - what if they didn't get together, but met later in life with Arthit in a service job to pay for a post-grad degree?

Oh this show. Oh this beautiful, tragic show. I love the plotting and the great characters and the twists and turns and I love THESE STUPID LOVELY BOYS AND THEIR FEALTY.

There's something delicious about them being older, being on the other side of a whole lot of history (and teenage crushes and vows to be together forever, I'm sure) and tragedy and weary cynicism.

On the other hand, I want them to be happy *g* I'm a hurt/comfort fan, what can I say.

I would love a story about them being happy together (if you'd rather not go romantic, their intense brotherly bond is good too), could be in canon or after it (I am 100% happy for the death fix to be 'handwave'), or a reincarnation? Or an AU? Play with the setting all you like, but I'd love to see them together and secure in each other. So anything from an indulgent scene in Emperor Jing's palace (a duvet day maybe?) to a dramatic missing scene (what if they weren't interrupted during all the mutual kowtowing) to dragon-riders to CEO and unusually intuitive barista - it's all good

I was really interested by the way these two interacted in the 'present day' sequences, and the contrasts between their personalities. They've got this whole weight of history to inherit, having essentially been raised by the main protagonists of everything that happened in the last twenty five years. Although they are very different, does this bring them together? Or is the past something they fight over? How does Jin Ling, who is A Mess, feel about how centred and secure Lan Yuan is? How does Lan Yuan regard Jin Ling - is he sympathetic or just impatient? Or doesn't he particularly care (and does that annoy Jin Ling)?

I'd be interested seeing more of them interacting in any way - distantly or growing into friendship from their enmity, or even falling for each other (or messing about ill advisedly). [NB: My take on the drama is that they're both over 16 when we meet them in the 'present day' (I've not read the novel) and I don't want to read underage.]

Or again this could be AU, including to the modern world (students/colleges?) or canon divergent so they meet in different ways/with different names or however you want to take it. What if they were cast in a BL drama and reaaaally didn't get on?

If you'd like to throw Lan Jingyi in here too, in a friend/troll/dating one or both of them way, that's all good too

What can I say, I recently fell into this RPF pairing and can't get up... I am not following the ins and outs of who messaged who what on Weibo or their shooting schedules or anything, so no worries if you aren't an expert, I'd just love some more stories about them getting together, either alongside the show, after it or in a total AU set up. Feel free to go the full trope list here if you so wish, like the fake-dating or the one bed or the 'teach me how to kiss', or weird time loops or ABO type 'heat came and only you were available' directions, or endlessly polite yearning over Very Significant Meals. Or ooh, what about a Pacific Rim fusion and they're drift compatible???

The one thing I don't care for with this kind of pairing is the actors meeting their characters, just doesn't do it for me.

Summary:

Nelson had a sister. It is noble when it is in broadsheets, when it is spoken of in metaphors, in bonds and leadership. Not in the close, stinking intimacy of it, not in a small and far from soundproof cabin with a tub of whale grease and two wolves circling each other.

It is... the longest thing I've ever written? Since I went back to full time work, and the wretchedly long commute I used to have, I wrote 12,681 words in the whole of 2017. I managed 40k across the whole of 2018, with a couple of longer fics. This fic is very nearly 50k, and it's March.

I mean, they act so well and they suffer so much, what is a humble ficcer to do?

Etiquette on new platforms is hard! And people are all different! But just to explain a little if it helps: On DW you can 'subscribe' with or without 'granting access', so you can follow someone's feed but unless they grant you access you'll only see what they post publicly. (Also, you can manage different access lists with different levels of viewing privilege, and you can block people from all your entries - they can see them if they log out but won't be able to comment)

I tend to subscribe and grant access at the same time when I see someone I want to follow. But I don't mind if someone doesn't want to grant access in return, it's all cool, it depends what you're writing and how comfortable you are to share and that's your business. 

If you subscribe to me and grant access I will generally grant back providing I have a vague sense who you are or your journal has some entries that reassures me you're not a bot. Or you can message me, but you don't have to. 

I try and get on here as often as I can, I'm planning to try and access via phone more and also when I move work locations I should have more time to spend on my personal laptop. But in the meantime, I may not reply that swiftly, this is not from lack of love!

One part of me this year was like 'self, you have even more exams, you have no time, you cannot Yuletide' and most of the rest of me was like DO IT, SELF

I've asked for Mona Lisa Smile before but not got it, and all is healed by this amazing, gorgeously balanced story of the early stages of the Giselle/Betty relationship. Lovely longing, UST and Giselle being so so Giselle (and Betty trying hard not to be quite so Betty) (In my head, MLS is a lesbian romance for these two, and this is *almost* canon but possibly not quite, but shhh that is what this movie is really about). Everyone into 1950s women breaking free of convention and enemies-to-lovers-ing their way to lesbian HEA should (a) watch the movie (b) read this AMAZING fic.

Summary:

Mark had to admit, he was expecting nightmares. Still, some of his other dreams were a bit more unexpected.

His subconscious apparently had things to tell him.

I had also thrown up a really open Martian prompt in a fit of love for the movie and book, and lo I got this pairing, which is fascinating to me because it's not (afaik) a major one in the fandom but it really works, and I love how this author weaves it into the canon, and never forgets all the challenges of Mark's situation (like having to communicate with your maybe crush on a medium the ENTIRE WORLD can also see). Lovely bit of negotiated poly too. This makes me want to leave open prompts again, because there is such fun in getting something so unexpectedly right.

My LJ account is gone, because evidently LJ doesn't want to host anything of what I want to say, and that is LJ's prerogative, but gah. 

I have backed up all my journal entries and PM exchanges by hand to a word document (a very long one!) rather than wait for imports etc. I'm very glad I got back into using DW already. 

I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels vaguely like they've been kicked out of, like, the clubhouse where they grew up or something. I created my LJ in the summer of 2006 so that I could write Stargate Atlantis slash - fandom and fanfic were one of the things that made my adolescence not any worse than it was. I deleted it in the spring of 2017 because some humans think that exposing people to queer content is the Most Terrible.
