A Walk at the Temple Tanjo-ji (Okayama)

serenity...
at the temple's entrance
are pines and bamboos

gingko tree
all silent and bare...
winter song

a bare tree...
winter doves spare
its crown

temple ground -
the pages of history
on old, bare trees

Amida...
I quiver from the touch
of the wind

soft wind
kisses the temple's doorsteps...
my Amida

the temple's
majestic stance...
birdsong

ahhh the pines...
the leaves prick me back
to my senses

the Buddha...
even the trees bow
in reverence

at the temple...
the bell remains mute
as I pray

Autumn Chill

autumn chill
there goes another jogger
passes me by

end of fasting
the snappy dog catches
all the bones

a fiery night
four legs are intertwined
behind the locked door

Hazy Moon

hazy moon
smoke fills my lungs
as I breathe

hazy moon
spiders lay still
on shabby webs

hazy moon
tall shadows of trees
line the path

hazy moon
not a flicker of light
not a sound

hazy moon
as if the clock
wants to stop

hazy moon
underneath the clouds
silence

hazy moon
a blanket of darkness
hides some sobs
