New Story: Puissance

Stories for [community profile] hlh_shortcuts have been revealed! Yay!

This year I wrote a gen Rebecca & Methos story. The idea mostly centered around having Rebecca and Methos at a horse show. Honestly thought including horse jumping in a story would be a dead give away that I wrote it lol. Anyway, the rest of the story grew out of that kernel.

I truly love writing Highlander, and it was a delight to discover more about Rebecca and Methos. I love them! I'm also certain this is the first HL story I've ever written that doesn't even mention Duncan at all. Not sure how I pulled that off, hah.

If anyone is curious about the Puissance, here is one video of one of the record setting jumps which always makes me laugh because of the french commentators. Here is another more modern one with several riders competing. eta: I should note the major difference between the 2 videos is that the first one is done on turf and the second one is done in an indoors arena on dirt.

Special thank you to [personal profile] raine for helping with a last minute beta!

highlander my beloved

hello! Happy Holidays! (I know, I'm late, I've been distracted.)

The [community profile] hlh_shortcuts Fest is now live! And I got this wonderful wonderful gem of a story.

Relationships: Duncan MacLeod/Methos (Highlander), Methos/Original Character
Characters: Methos (Highlander), Duncan MacLeod
Summary:

Methos is 5,000 years old. He's managed to attract some attention in his long life.

I believe this story, completely. I love that the old gods know and love Methos. Who else would they love? <3

The rest of the fest can be found here. I've only read a handful of stories so far, but they've all been wonderful.

My particular favorite is Legend Has It -- Gen, Darius, Richie. Not only is it note perfect in-character, but it's also my favorite kind of canon-divergence. Dreamwidth Post | comment count unavailable
MCU - Sam

stuff(ing) and nonsense - Happy Thanksgiving!

1) Turkey dinner achieved
2) I would like to say I worked on my HL Holiday story but I did not *nervous tentative smile*
3) Hawkeye viewing achieved (very fun! I love Arrow Guy <3)
4) Went to see Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and let me just say Scott Lang deserves to be sexiest man alive. Rudd was way too handsome and adorable in that film.
5) I know I keep saying this but work is nutso. one person quit and another person got fired. my work load doubled lol. *nervous tentative smile* I got a glowing review though, so there's that.
6) Went to see Eternals, which I liked very much but did not fall in love with as much as I have loved most other MCU films. Collapse )
7) I continue my love affair with Obi-Wan Kenobi. But, I gotta be honest here. Star Wars as a fandom is so ouchy. It's just heartbreak with a side of heartbreak. MCU is sunshine in comparison. Star Wars is like here have a puppy and watch me KILL IT HAHAHHA DARK SIDE RULEZZZ. That's basically what it's like.
8) I bought blue light filtering glasses and i like them but I'm not used to wearing glasses for hours so that's taking some getting used to. I'm not sure it's helping?? But I look cool, and that's important. Dreamwidth Post | comment count unavailable

whew -- it's been a minute hasn't it

And...I logged on to DW just in time to see that HLH Holiday Shortcuts sign ups are open. Good lord. It's been a year! I honestly had no idea we were at that time again but here we are. whaaaaat.

I'm around. Just not very chatty.

here's a quick round up!

~ everything at chez hafital is okay, if stuck in that weird pandemic limbo. the most exciting thing that's happened is that I took a week off work and rearranged my furniture in the living room, which meant I was a) able to clean and dust a good deal and b) fixed my work from home area to actually be functional. Only took me a year and a half from when we started this weird adventure
~ still working from home (obvs) -- we were supposed to be back in the office 3 days a week in september but that got put on hold because of delta.
~ I had a SECOND tumble from my horse in as many months. hey, they say you're not learning if you're not falling
~ I saw SHANG-CHI like 3 times in the theatre. I LOVED IT. I think it's one of the best MCU films they've made. Also, I had a melt down in slack over the mid-credit scene lol.
~ I'm back in the star wars swing of things -- don't ask me why or how -- and am deeply in love with Obi-Wan Kenobi. These things happen. And oddly it's more with the animated Obi-Wan but whatever lol.
~ I have adored every single WHAT IF episode to bits and pieces. I find them extremely enjoyable, even when they punch me in the stomach. They're fun, quick, delightful, sad, mysterious, and chalk full of fun ideas and fun avenues to explore. Some of them are DARK. Like, I don't know, the movies aren't exactly all sunshine and roses either but holy shit some of these WHAT IF episodes manage to go to really dark and horrible places where the movies would never dare. I find it cool, personally.
~ For those inclined, MIDNIGHT MASS, on Netflix, was so good. SO GOOD. Flanagan's best work, imo. But best of all was getting to see Zach Gilford (Matt Saracen from FNL) on my TV again. And gdi he was effing amazing. I hope people recognize this. I hope he gets some nominations if not actual awards because he deserves them all. His work in this series deserves solid weeping from the masses.
~ though Midnight Mass did remind me to avoid religion at all cost lol
~ I went to see VENOM 2 yesterday. It was everything I wanted. Is there any greater joy than watching Eddie and Venom tussle with love? I don't think so.
~ BUT OMG YOU GUYS THE MID CREDIT SCENE FOR VENOM LET THERE BE CARNAGE I AM SCREAMING IN ALL CAPS YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND. I nearly levitated out of my recliner movie theatre chair, spilling the remnants of my popcorn everywhere.

I'm going to have to do a longer MCU post to ramble more less coherently at length. Dreamwidth Post | comment count unavailable

television i have watched

For weeks I've been meaning to post! Everything is pretty okay on my end, though still in that weird WFH limbo of sameness that I dislike the most from this pandemic. As much as I hated the Trump administration at least it gave me something to push against during this weird time, but now I am just like Tuesday what is Tuesday?

It's not even Tuesday, it's Thursday. What the hecking heck. The weeks are only separated by my horseback riding lessons on Saturdays -- I still work on Saturdays to take the edge off of the workload -- and the fact that I hibernate more than usual on Sundays lol.

Tonight I am going to go see Jungle Cruise and am excite about it. Never enough Dwayne the Rock Johnson in my opinion.

~~~
All right. I've watched some TV recently.
Okay that's enough yammering.
I went to see Black Widow 3 times in the theaters and I don't regret it at all. It is now among my favorite MCU films, joining The Winter Soldier and Thor Ragnarok.
I also went to see The Green Knight which is a trip. I don't know what the heck I watched. It's beautiful though. And Dev Patel is so handsome in it. Stunning visual film. Dreamwidth Post | comment count unavailable
