Yep, you've got another one!

I'll introduce myself real quick. I'm a freshman from the United States, and I adore Gone with the Wind as much (maybe more) then everyone here does. I read the book for the first time while I went on a road trip the summer before I went to seventh grade. I have posters all over my walls and other memorabilia in various locations of my room. I always like to read stuff on this fantastic novel and am always looking for references so this seems like a perfect spot for me.

I have one, though it barely counts since it's from a Harry Potter fanfiction, but I was reading and it said; "Yes, they were among the Romeo and Juliets, Heathcliff and Cathys, Darcy and Elizabeths, Scarlett and Rhetts..." I found it interesting, especially since it was in a fic of my OTP.

I'm reading Teacher Man by Frank Mc Court for DE (written discourse class) I found a GWTW reference which It's kite funny ^^

"...Besides, you could never talk back to a movie mother played by one of those old Irish actresses, Sarah Allgood or Una O'Connor, with their sharp tongues and their suffering faces. Your own mother had a powerful hurt look, too, but there's nothing like seeing it on the big screen in black and white or living color.

Your father could be played by Clark Gable except that a) he might not be able to handle your father's North of Ireland accent and b) it would be a terrible comedown from Gone With the Wind, which, you remember, was banned in Ireland because, it is said, Rhett Butler carried his own wife, Scarlett, up the stairs and into bed, which upset the film censors in Dublin and caused them to ban the film entirely. No, you'd need someone else as your father because the Irish censors would be watching closely and you'd be badly disappointed if the people in Limerick, your city, and the rest of Ireland were denied the opportunity of seeing the story of your miserable childhood and subsequent triumph as teacher and movie star." It's a really interesting book ... especially if you are a teacher or you are studying to become one (like me). He writes about his teaching career.

for all of you GWTW lovers - I've just been to see the London stage show which was really enjoyable.

Whilst it's never going to be the same as the movie, they did do a pretty good job of it.

The best thing for me though was the gift shop - as it's really hard to find fun GWTW things which aren't just the old poster image over and over.

I was reading the references and I rememebered the Hot Shots! one ... It's some kind of parody of the stairs scene. To be honest I saw Hot Shots! 100 times but I never realize about that part because I didn't saw GWTW until 6 months ago if you wanna see the scene It's close to the middle of this Video

Anyway I can find tons of references of GWTW in The Simpsons. I will take some time to make a post about it but not today because I need to do my homework =S

i have a reference to GWTW that i found, but didn't notice until i watched the movie.

in the movie "adventures in babysitting", they get in a car that a guy is hot wiring, in order to get away from the fight between the toe-truck driver and the man his wife was sleeping with, well the guy takes them to the garage where he and other people work on the stolen cars, the guy in charge of the workers, [who's black] yells "all right, it's quittin time at tara!" for the workers to leave so he and the other "head-haunchos" can begin the meeting.

i never knew what that was from until i recently watched gone with the wind.

Another big GWTW fan, with a reference that may have been seen before. (I just joined, too!) I was watching "Best in Show" with my best friend and these two gay guys are really into old movies, they adore them, I guess. At the end of the film, they're dressing up their dogs for a calendar...and the scene they're recreating is when Rhett and Scarlett are on the carriage with Atlanta burning in the background. How funny if that!? They did a few other movie pictures, but GWTW stood out in my mind because one of the guys was holding up a screen capture of the actual film, trying to compare it to the photograph as he was fixing the dogs' outfits. Too cute!

In Chuck Palahnuik's Invisible Monster's there's a funny little reference to GWTW:

"Evie's house was big---white with hunter green shutters, a three-story plantation house fronted with big pillars. Needlepoint ivy and climbing roses--yellow roses--were climbed up around the bottom ten feet of each big pillar. You'd imagine Ashley Wilkes mowing the grass here, or Rhett Butlere taking down the storm windows..."

It's just a small reference but I broke out laughing when I thought of Ashley mowing a lawn or Rhett doing house maintenance.
