the thing is, JC is getting so much character development in the last chapters of mdzs. Hes getting the healthiest character development hes had since... ever. Because at the end of MDZS, he does the one thing that seems impossible to his character as the one who holds on to resentments so tightly and so well that it is said he has mastered the three poisons: he lets go. He could have told WWX about his own sacrifice, but that wouldve been just holding on to those debts/ties/duties that makes love something that hurts. Instead, when the golden core transfer is revealed and WWX says he wants to put all that in the past - all their history, whats left of the old connection, long since twisted into something unrecognizable and choking, between them - JC does not reveal his long-ago protection and own sacrifice for WWX, thereby preserving its selflessness, preserving it as the act of love it was. In not attempting to use it as a debt or tie, we know he's finally letting go of WWX. Even when WWX seceded from the Jiang, even when JC disavowed him before the clans, even when WWX got their sister killed, JC was still holding on, stuck in his grief and rage and hate and love to the point he hadnt let go after 13 years. So in finally letting go after all those years, has this character development come too late, after all that has been said and done between them? Maybe for their relationship, but not for his own character.
