Well, hello. Just recently, I found some scribbled notes concerning the Ring of Nestor, which abounds with gryphon imagery. Eight years ago, I was reading Joseph Campbell's The Masks of God series, and in the Occidental Mythology volume there were several examples of gryphon images, with the Ring being the most captivating to me.
Today, I did some poking around online, and there seem to be some questions regarding the veracity of Ring's symbolism as described by its discoverer, Sir Arthur Evans (quoted by Campbell). I also ran across references to the Ring of Minos (without finding any images, darnit), which complicates my search a little bit. There is a plethora of material online, but it's tedious, slow going, and not all of it is free.
So, this is turning into some kind of project. Time constraints (and homework, etc.) might slow me down somewhat, but two Rings = double the fun! Minoan gryphons and their significance is a subject I've always wanted to delve into - the Minoans were exquisite artists, and their gryphons are sleek and graceful. Their presence in the Minoan throne room at the palace of Knossos hints at their prominence in Minoan culture.
Here's a link to some slides of Minoan gryphons from Knossos:
