Cartoonish Landscapes
So I finally discovered the artist who creates those paintings you see displayed on the walls of Del Taco.
Stephen Morath.
His work was or is on display at Leslie Levy Fine Art in Scottsdale, Arizona: http://www.stephenmorath.com/
And currently, I'm in awe of his Where the Wild West Went Collection.

Vintage, cartoonish, bold, and reminiscent of Mexican muralists.
I actually had a debate with Adrian over a Macho Burrito combo.
He hates this style of art. He says that with the way his brain works, he can't help but focus on what's "wrong" in the picture. They're too "unrealistic" exaggerated, etc. Essentially what I love about Morath's work.
He has similar issues with two of my other favorite artists,
Hokusai

and
Toulouse Lautrec

When I look at this painting, I see a flash in the pan, blink and you'll miss it image of modern era Southwest. Of course those cars are too large for the road.

Sorry the images is so small.
It's caricature.
This is one of my favorites, titled Cold Morning in Indian Country.

It brings back vivid sensations of living in New Mexico, and my first winter after moving from sunny southern California.
I think it also reminds me of an old Peanuts cartoon.
A lonely road, rural setting, bursting with childish adventure.
Like Race for your life, Charlie Brown.
Or that these images remind me of picture books I read as a kid.
Or maybe it's because I grew up playing Sega Genesis video games like Sonic the Hedgehog and love bright graphics...
But mainly I love Latin American and Southwest-style art in general.
And in the process of finding these images I've discovered another artist
Sam Toft

I guess I can see a pattern developing in my tastes for art.
