If anyone comes across a state quarter from Michigan (2004) or Hawaii (2008), can you please save it for me?
I've been called a grandma for constantly checking every quarter I get, but I am now only two states away from completing the book and having all 50! I've been collecting since they started releasing them when I got the coin book as a christmas present. The minting of state quarters officially ended with the end of 2008, so please please help me out if you see either of these two states. I'll even pay you double for it. ^_^
I will be plugging this a lot, methinks, but if you are a Sci Fi/fantasy fan (books, movies, comics, games, whatever!), check out http://www.suvudu.com
Site just went live on Friday, in time for the San Diego Comic-Con (this week!). Its aim is to basically become a general resource hub and portal to all things SF. It will be made much more awesome in the next few months, adding a bunch of sweet features. I've been lucky enough to watch a lot of it grow from the inside--it's fascinating to google a term that 3 weeks ago produced no results, and now has over 600! Quite an impressive jump for this only being the third day.
This was just posted on the Gaiman blog, and I love it:
"The best thing about writing fiction is that moment where the story catches fire and comes to life on the page, and suddenly it all makes sense and you know what it's about and why you're doing it and what these people are saying and doing, and you get to feel like both the creator and the audience. Everything is suddenly both obvious and surprising ("but of course that's why he was doing that, and that means that...") and it's magic and wonderful and strange.
You don't live there always when you write. Mostly it's a long hard walk. Sometimes it's a trudge through fog and you're scared you've lost your way and can't remember why you set out in the first place.
But sometimes you fly, and that pays for everything."
I feel like if I post in this thing, I should be good and read what you guys have been posting too. Unfortunately, I've failed on that front for the past two weeks (aka since I got back from Roch). With luck maybe I'll have more time at the end of this weekend (after the comedians pass thru), but I hope you're all doing well and I miss you. :(
In other news, I really want to make a blog. I mean, a real semi-professional blog, open to the public to express my views on various topics. This is something I've been meaning to do for a while... a good year or two at least. The only thing holding me back is what to do about a username.
This would continue to be my personal journal, but I'm tired of the Lanna username. I know it's a small detail, but a name says so much about the person writing. Any of the good combinations I've tried thus far are taken (I'll probably use blogspot, so that's what I've checked). Any suggestions or vague ideas that might lead me to an inspiration?
Danke. (I started german today btw). :)
P.S. I've very picky, but I'm a sucker for anything with literary reference hehe.
The best part of making cake and choosing to make your own icing: licking the beaters.
Makes me feel like a kid again. Mom would only let us lick the beaters when she made icing, because it was one of the few desserts that didn't involve raw eggs.
Next step is icing graham crackers and freezing them. Try it, it's delicious. :D
Warning: Something's up with my computer, and the internet is being v. fickle and not working so well. I thought these issues were fixed! xP So unless this clears up, I might not be online much for a bit...
Also, I scored an interview for tomorrow morning! Sweeeet! Best part is that I just sent in my resume this morning, and they called within a half hour. O:)
In other news, I started watching the old YouTube episodes of Heroes yesterday. Bad move. I only let myself watch the first two, but I want to watch more.
But those midterm essays are calling me. I really wish I could focus enough to write them. :-/
Today was also Friday the 13th. Friday, *October* 13th. How unusual! (Though personally, I think the dual combination of October with the day cancels out the supposed unluckiness. Or, thus far. ^_^)
And it's back to being autumn-like. With a crazy wind chill.
