So I went to this really sweet farm that uses almost no combustible/fossil fuel energy.
It uses wind power and solar panels for energy. Well, what are some of the problems with wind energy: bird migration, needs a certain rotation speed to gather energy. Problems with solar power: the sun needs to be out, upkeep and both wind and solar energy are difficult to store because of capacitors/batteries.
What's awesome is this farm virtually REMOVES all of the negative aspects of wind and solar energy (birds are still able to get hurt, but because the blades are smaller than the average windmill, it's less likely). You might asking yourself: how the hell do they do that?
Answer: reverse hydrogen fuel cells. Instead of using a fuel cell and water to create energy, the farm uses energy to create and store hydrogen gas. Then the two farmers (and one guy who is an accoutant and has NO engineering degree) converted almost all of their equipment to use hydrogen by removing the carbeurator and adding a few things. He ran a generator inside a building with no release of carbon dioxide. It was freaking sweet.
And to add to that, the windmills do not have to rotate at a higher rate to begin making hydrogen. So they will run on less windy days. And if it is nightime and there is no wind, the buildings and the center and the air conditioning all run on the saved hydrogen.
http://www.daytonpeacemuseum.org/F…http://www.greenenergyohio.org/pag…Dull Homestead is the name of the farm. The entire package for installation for one house is 64,000. Yes, it's expensive, but how much in 30 years do we all spend on gasoline, methane, etc. And if they get better at making solar panels (which they are continually improving), this is really the future of energy in the world!
