Rise to the Call

Looking around on the ol' LJ and it seems the GR Fur group never got a decent start.
Well, let's see who's still around.
If you're seeing this messege, just reply to show you're still here.

A Formal Apology

It pains me to have to write this entry, though I know from what some people have said, this probably won't come as any surprise.

With that aside, let me begin by telling you all how whole-heartedly sorry I am. I'm sorry to anyone whose time I have wasted or anyone who got their hopes up in this. I know I did.

I really did have high hopes for this to work out, but it seems life has other plans. I went from a mostly worry-free life to one that's of constant hustle and unrest. The idea for this community and group came at the tail-end of the former, right before things began to implode. I now find myself in a situation where my focus needs to be shifted from things that I would LIKE to do, and focus solely on what needs to be done.

This, sadly, means I need to prioritize.

What does this mean for you? Not much I suppose. Nothing really got off the ground, which I guess in the end, makes saying goodbye much easier.

So is this goodbye? Not really, I'd like to think. I still hold out hope that perhaps in the upcoming year, things will calm down, life will settle back out to equilibrium (to bring in my wretched chemistry), and perhaps allow me the chance to start this back up. In the mean time, if someone feels like they wish to do what I did, then I encourage you to do so. I know I'll do anything and everything in my power to support you.

I hope this isn't coming off as high and mighty; for some reason it does to me. Regardless, I feel as though I'm dragging myself on my belly here.

In short, I'm sorry to anyone who joined this and now finds themselves disappointed. I, probably like you, had hoped that this would perhaps work out, if only for a longer time than it did. I'm still holding out for the day when I can come back here, blow off any settled dust, and perhaps pick up where we left off. But until then, I wish you all well.

Mrrf

I'm making this post real quick before my laptop dies.

Life has been hell for me the past week or so, so I haven't had time to even think about the meet. I feel really bad you guys, but between limited time on my computer thanks to a broke power cord and other things taking over my life (e.g. school and bills), I just haven't had time to look into it.

I'll try and look into prices and dates and such on tuesday when I have some time. Otherwise, look for it on thursday after all my midterms.

VERY TENTATIVE DATE: Friday, March 21st at 6pm. Bowling.

Haven't picked the bowling alley yet; gonna look around and check out prices. Suggestions would be appreciated.

If you have a problem with the date and/or time, leave a comment. But from all the people whose schedules I got, this seems to work for everyone.

Questions/comments can go here or message me on AIM (on four we jump).

Catch a matinee, then get lunch
2(25.0%)

PLEASE VOTE.

Also PLEASE POST GOOD TIMES FOR YOU IN THE COMMENTS. ONLY THE TIMES POSTED WILL BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION. Well, unless you tell me on AIM or through an e-mail. Either way, if you have something going on, and you don't make a comment, then I can't telepathically know you have knitting class on Wednesday.

Basically I'll leave this up, and look at it on friday. Whichever choice has majority will be looked into over the weekend and then a TENTATIVE PLAN WILL BE SET SOMETIME NEXT WEEK.

Hopefully.

I mean tentative loosely. As in... this is basically the plan until zero hour when Murphy kicks down the door and brings the law home. :P

ANYWAYS JUST VOTE. I'mma go get some sleep.

IMPORTANT: Ideas for Meets

I'd like to start planning our first meet, so I was hoping see what ideas you guys had for our first one. I'd like to do it sometime in mid-to-late March. Hopefully by then, it'll have warmed up, and it'll also give everyone plenty of advanced notice. We need ideas for activities as well as places to eat. Please keep in mind when making your suggestions that we need a place that will accommodate a medium-to-large group and isn't too pricey. If you like one the ones listed, then you can also 2nd that idea.

Also, please post what day is better for you: Saturday, Sunday, or even a weekday, and what area is easier for you to get to (Beltline, East Grand Rapids, Downtown, Grandville/Jenison, etc).

Ideas for Meets so Far:
Lunch -> John Ball Zoo (Fee: 3.50)
Matinee Movie -> Lunch
Lunch -> Hang out at Woodland/Rivertown Crossings
Go Bowling (get food there)
Lunch -> Zapzone on 28th
Lunch -> Craigs Cruisers (Expensive)

I'll leave this up for a few more days for anyone else who'd like to share their ideas and opinions, then I'll put up a poll and have people vote for what they'd like to do. Hopefully but the end of next week we can hammer out a date and an idea, and that'll be at least a month in advance for those who are working.

IS IT OVER??? February 29th

(copied from the GVSU group I'm in.)

The most coolest bands in GR are putting on the most coolest, comfortable, not crapy 12 hour but warm and fuzzy 4 hour, elegant, and neat music festival for all Grand Rapidians!! IS IT OVER YET?!? Is a heartfelt plea for the month of February to leave us alone (and please, March, be gentle!). you love these bands, you trust the kind of shows we put on to be spectacular, is there any other way to say that this concert will be amazing!!!??

I'm thinking going and just thought you guys might be too. Anyone heard of any of the bands? I'm thinking of looking them up on myspace later tonight (after homework D:).

Woo hoo!

Well, it looks like GRFurs is off to a good start! Don't forget to keep spreading the word to any furs you might know, even if they don't live in the area, who might be interested. Trickle-down advertising, hehe.

I know a few people on mifurs have mentioned a few things about meets, so in case you all didn't catch it, I figured I'd post it here. A meet probably won't happen until March or April. Why? First off, the group is only a few days old! I hold out all hope that we'll thrive, but these are HARD DAYS, and I always plan for the worst. :P Hehe. So I'd like to wait until mid-February or so, see where the group is at, and we'll go from there. After we've established that we are, indeed, NOT DEAD, I'd like to give the working people a good amount of heads up for time-off requests. Hell, hopefully I'll be working by then, and it'd be nice to not suddenly spring it on the boss that I have to have Saturday off ;3.

Nonetheless, I've already started thinking of ideas XD More than likely, I'll make a post to take suggestions for meets, but I was thinking for this first one just something low key and someplace where we can do lots of talking and getting to know eachother. Perhaps lunch and then the zoo? But this is neither here nor there. Watch out in February for a post asking for your guys' ideas.

In other news, PLEASE FEEL FREE to post in the community, even if it's not GRFurs related. Want to post a get-to-know-you meme, or just one that's funny (though, keep it PG-13... for the children)? Or a hilarious video on youtube? Go ahead a post them; if they're super long, though, remember to keep them behind a cut. WHY ISN'T THIS BEHIND A CUT YOU SAY?

...

So yes. Any questions can be directed here. :3 Have a good night, all!

Grand Rapids Furs is born!

Hello everyone! I'm April Inertia, and I'd like to welcome you all to Grand Rapids Furs! This community was born of the sheer fact that I KNOW THERE ARE FURS IN GRAND RAPIDS, but it just seems sad that with such a high concentration, we have no group or organized events.

So here we go! Please give this fledgling group time to grow and mature. Once we have enough members (at least 4 or 5), we'll begin to organize furmeets.

Please feel free to introduce yourself upon joining! We'd love to get to know you. :3

I'll get the ball rolling. I'm a student at GVSU studying Chemistry with a Biochemistry/Biotechnology emphasis. I'm 19 years old and, indeed, a female (OH NOES!). In my free time I enjoy reading comics (my current favorite being Next Wave), drawing anthro art, and surfing this wide wide web. I enjoy video games, but I'm horrendous at them, and only own a DS and an old grey brick.

With that out of the way, let's get started! Here's to future success and future friends!!
