Last month I decided to read a super long Charles/Erik fic that I've had on my "Marked for Later" list for literal years. It was amazing and, predictably, inspired an intense need to find and read ALL THE CHERIK FIC. This happens to me pretty regularly, these intense obsessions with specific pairings, often spurred on by reading a long and amazing fic that reminds me why I love them. Anyway, I read a bunch of Cherik fic last month, so here are some of my favorites!

I read a little bit in a lot of different fandoms this month! Mostly I was reading published works in September, but I still managed to sneak in some fanfic! :D

[Check, Please!: Bitty/Jack]Title: take the world out for a ride

It’s just. It’s just, for himself, Bitty had hoped that it was a performance he was done giving. Just to be able to act happy when he’s happy, and sad when he’s sad. That shouldn’t be so much to ask.
Really lovely fic that takes place a few years down the line with Jack and Bitty living together as "roommates" still keeping their relationship a secret because of Jack's hockey career. There was a quiet sort of angst about the keeping secrets, but even more powerful was the love they both had for one another, and their determination to make things work. I loved Bitty and his bakery, and the ending was really great.

Summary: The year is 1962, and Charles Xavier is a professor of archaeology who knows how his students feel, whether he wants to or not. He spends his spare time researching a mythical artifact, but he knows better than anyone that X never, ever marks the spot.
Sort of an Indiana Jones-type fusion that was immensely enjoyable. I loved the way the canon people and relationships fit really well into this 'verse, and the connection and build-up was really lovely. Hot sex, and a happy ending made this a wonderful afternoon read. :D

Several months ago I started thinking about my favorite fanfics. Obviously my rec lists are basically just lists of my favorite fics, but even among those, I have my favorites. The ones I read again and again, the ones I read when I need comfort, or want to feel some gut-punch feels, or want to roll around in the meant-to-be love. I decided that it was necessary to come up with a list of my most favorite of fics across all of the fandoms I read in. This was poor decision on my part. Six months later and I've finally finished, and narrowing things down was a bit more harrowing than anticipated. I ended up with almost as many fics on the honorable mentions list as I did on the Actual list, but some things can't be helped. I figured getting this up for Rectober was an admirable goal, and I'm happy I managed to get this done.

The more I've read in a fandom, the more difficult it was to narrow down, so I had an especially hard time with Harry Potter and Teen Wolf in particular. I tried to narrow it down by only letting myself chose one from a category (one creature!fic, one post-hogwarts era, etc). It was hard. Also, keep in mind that these are 100% personal opinion and totally subjective. I like what I like.

So, here they are, Grace's 25 most-favorite fics! AKA What I would bring to read on a desert island. :D

Today I am going to rec ALL THE FANDOMS! But seriously, though. I've been trying to read one longer non-HP fic per week so I can clear out my to-read list, and it's been a lot of fun. :)

[Kingsman: Eggsy/Harry]Title: the first of many

Looking back, he should have payed more attention to the calendar; he’d been good about taking his suppressants until the last few weeks, when the training exercises and elimination tests had gotten so intense that he’d started to forget the little pills. Dealing with a heat doesn’t seem as horrific after jumping out of an airplane, especially when you’d under the assumption that your ‘chute was faulty, and taking the suppressants was one of those little things that got shuttered off to the side in his mind. If he’d been paying attention it may not have come to - this.
Because Eggsy’s in heat, and there’s only two ways it can go from here.
Crazy hot omega!verse AU with Eggsy unexpectedly going into heat and then him and Harry having some ridiculously hot sex.

Title: Patience and Sheer Determination

Such a brilliant fic! Loved the slight AU, with Harry coming across Eggsy in much less auspicious circumstances. But Eggsy's fire is still more than there, and the chemistry between them is fabulous. Interesting plot, and some seriously lovely relationship development. Plus, hot sex! :D

He's beautiful, and Eggsy loves him.
“I miss you.” The confession falls. It lands heavily onto the pavement, cracking into the asphalt. “You're alive, you're right in fucking front of me, and I still miss you.”
God, this fic is just gorgeous! I adore he characterization here and Eggsy's reaction to Harry coming back from the dead is both heartbreaking and painfully realistic. Really beautiful build-up and some seriously hot sex!

[Merlin: Arthur/Merlin]Title: We Pull These Jobs To Make A Little Money (No One Gets Hurt If They Don't Act Funny)

OMG this fic is awesome! I love Arthur and his merry band of bank robbers, and adorable Merlin as a bank teller was perfect. I adored the connection between Merlin and Arthur here, and the sex was just unbelievably hot. Really fun plot, and just an all-around super enjoyable read!

[Spartacus: Agron/Nasir]Title: Shut Up And Take A Fucking Bath

Really gorgeous stolen moment between Agron and Nasir during the storm in Mors Indecepta. They both felt beautifully in-character, and Nasir's thoughts on Castus were particularly realistic, if a bit heartachey.

Charles knows that Erik has always loved him, and intends to use this knowledge + sex to seduce Erik away from his ideals in his youth. There's no way this well-thought-out, sensible, debugged and 100% bulletproof plan can possibly go wrong.
Really cool set of fics that have Charles going back in time when he first met Erik and seducing him for the greater good. Interesting, and funny, and sexy reads!
