The most PATHETIC lil baby sounds...

I love when little creatures who are entirely loved and well cared for have the BIGGEST baby reactions to normal things. Like yes sweet pea, you DO have the hardest life of anyone ever, for sure, and you’re SO BRAVE about this minor inconvenience of *checks notes* having some water touch you

There is nothing sadder and more pathetic than a baby marine mammal having to get into the water. They are suffering the most out of any baby animal ever. How dare they be introduced to their natural environment.

Tim Hortons is doing a Harry Potter collab and like. Whatever. I quit going there years ago because the food and drinks are bad. But it's annoying me off how people keeping boiling down folks boycotting Tim's to "People are mad about things JRK said on Twitter" and "People are mad because they don't like Harry Potter". I heard the former stated as the reason on the radio the other day. Jesus Christ, no. People are mad because any money JKR gets from this promotion will be funneled straight into lobbying against transgender rights and access to healthcare in the UK. Very tangible real world harm. It isn't about the ideological purity of the stupid wizard donuts.

I’m not saying phases of the menstrual cycle aren’t real but I am saying their effects have been exaggerated by social media influencers with no medical backgrounds to the point of reinventing Female Hysteria. And all this for the purpose of selling “workout plans” and specialized elixirs and seeds and serums via Amazon storefront.

Really tired of ignorant ass people talking about how “only transfems are seen as predatory and transmascs are seen as little girls who just need help” bc even ignoring everything else wrong with that idea, I literally can’t even smile, wave, and say “hi” back to little kids that say hi to me in public without their parents acting visibly upset by it. Because they see me, a visibly trans(masc), very gender ambiguous looking person, and assume ill intent automatically.

I don’t think that ever happened to me pre transition, and I’m not saying it happens *every* time, but since I started transitioning it’s happened enough times that at this point, if a kid says hi to me in the grocery store I usually just pretend I didn’t hear them, and as someone who believes in treating kids like the people they are, it breaks my heart that I feel the need to do that

I believe the consensus among cishets (please do correct me if I'm wrong here as I'm transfem and lack transmasculine experiences) is that trans women/transfems are sexual predators who will sexually assault cis women, while trans men/transmascs are "corruption" predators who will convince your poor innocent daughters to go on testosterone and ruin their bodies.

Cishets just can't fathom the idea of someone with a vagina being a sexual predator, so they paint you guys as other kinds of predators.

I think that's where the misunderstanding comes from I think.

Ive said something like this before but one of the most morbidly funny side effects of people arguing about if trans men belong in "the queer community" is how often it reveals they dont know any cis queer men and dont think of them as part of the "the queer community" either. "Are masculine men allowed to be queer? What about people's fear of masculine men?" Have you never seen pictures of a pride parade before. Is this your first day being queer. Do you know what a bear is. Are we having the "bears arent really gay" debate in 2026 but call it feminist now.

The great online queer minds of our generation all trying to come up with reasons why the most enlightened thing a trans guy can do is detransition and the best they can come with is "it just freaks me out that James is gay AND plays basketball! It's like he isnt gay at all" its a fucking tiktok reboot of saved by the bell with you people, I swear to god.

Pro-censorship wattpad refugees drama is so funny to me because when I started using ao3 as a kid I was a devout mormon and I thought that reading anything even remotely pornagraphic was a sin and would ruin my life. So when I was 13 and found ao3 I went "oh awesome I found a fanfic website with a filtering system so I won't ever randomly stumble into porn. This is great! I was really worried about seeing something I didn't want to see on the other platforms." I didn't read any smut online until like three years later. If a mormon 13 year old can figure out 'don't like don't read' wattpad users can too cmon you guys i believe in you.

imo engaging critically with texts and scholars is not something you should just do when you disagree, but also when you agree. it can be enriching to identify the limitations of an author or activist that you largely agree with because it can give you broader perspective and opportunity for introspection. also, to put it bluntly, everyone says stupid shit at one time or another, so you shouldn't uncritically accept everything someone says to you.

wattpad really gave ao3 a huge free promo with their new policy update that makes things even worse for their users. so to all the people who are now moving to ao3 due to this…

welcome! here are what you need to know about ao3 and how it’s the complete opposite of wattpad

trigger warning for the mention of contents that are allowed on ao3 that can be triggering to some.

  • ao3 is a non-profit organization. it’s run by fans (people like you and me), for fans.
  • fans donate to the site on their own free will to keep the site up and running smoothly.
  • ao3 is not a social media. it is an archive.
  • ao3 doesn’t have ads. it doesn’t have algorithms. it doesn’t have “going viral.”
  • everything is endlessly free on ao3. there is no “ao3 premium.” you will never see a single ad on ao3, and you can download as many fics as you want to read offline for free.
  • ao3 doesn’t have an app. and ao3 doesn’t need an app. any “ao3 apps” you see are third-party apps and are not affiliated with ao3, so be careful giving these shady apps your login infos or other personal information.
  • ao3 was built with the main purpose to 1.) be completely against censorship and 2.) host fics that are banned on other platforms like wattpad.
  • the reason ao3 doesn’t have an app is because for it to have its own app, appstore and google play store will have to approve it first. and due to the contents ao3 allows, chances are that it won’t get approved. which is actually a good thing. it doesn’t need an app. it works more than fine without an app.
  • on ao3, every single thing is allowed as long as it is fanfic or fan work (original works, fan art and video edits count as fan works, but if you want to post a video edits on ao3, you will have to post it elsewhere and then link it back to ao3 — ao3 cannot host video edits on its platform due to copyright issues)
  • by every single thing that is fanfic, I mean every single thing:
  • the filthiest smut without plot that is written purely for sexual pleasure is allowed. it has its own canonical tag called “plot what plot, porn without plot.”
  • fics that focus on non-consensual sexual intercourse are allowed, doesn’t matter if the fics glorify or romanticize the act, doesn’t matter if they’re written as kinks. they have their own canonical tag called “rape/non-con.”
  • fics about characters who are minors are allowed, even if they’re portrayed in a sexual manner, even if they’re non-consensual sexual intercourse. even if the minor characters are romantically and/or sexually involved with characters who are adults. even if the fics are written in ways that glorify and/or romanticize the thing. they have their own canonical tag called “underage sex.”
  • fics about incest are allowed. doesn’t matter if they glorify or romanticize the relationship. they have their own canonically tag called “incest.” fun fact: the first ever fic that was posted on ao3 was a fic about an incest ship from supernatural.
  • fics about self-harm and suicide are allowed. doesn’t matter if they glorify or romanticize the act. they have their own canonical tags called “self-harm” and “suicide” also “suicidal ideation”, “suicide attempt”, “implied/referenced suicide”, etc.
  • fics about violence and gore are allowed, even if they were written for the sake of shock value. they have their own canonical tag called “violence”, “blood and gore”, “blood and injuries”, etc.
  • rpf is also allowed. doesn’t matter if the content of the fics are dark and taboo. they’re treated the same way as any other fics.
  • every single dark and taboo fic you can think of is allowed. and it has its own canonical tag. because it is the main reason why ao3 was created in the first place.
  • “but what do I do if I don’t wanna see fics about xyz?” you can filter out any specific tag, character and/or pairing you want.
  • “what do I do if I wanna find fics about xyz?” you can search for any specific tag, character and/or pairing you want.
  • a lot of ao3 users rely on tags to search for specific tags, pairings, characters they want. they also rely on tags to filter out and exclude specific tags, pairings, and characters that they don’t want to see.
  • ao3’s tagging system is by far the most efficient one I’ve ever seen.
  • on ao3, our main principles are “don’t like don’t read” — which means YOU have a responsibility to curate your own internet experience. yes, ao3 allows all kind of messed up fics, but they also allow you the ability to NOT see anything you don’t want to see, by filtering out specific fics, pairings and/or characters.
  • no. you cannot harass authors who write about things that disgust you. you can and will be reported for harassment, and ao3 takes harassment very seriously. they will not take your side. because fucked up fics are allowed on ao3—fucked up fics are the main reason ao3 was created—whereas harassment is a direct violation of their terms of service.
  • ao3 is a house of the freaks and the perverts (affectionate). you ARE in the house of the freaks and the perverts. so don’t think about harassing or being rude to the freaks and the perverts who built this anti-censorship house and are kind enough to let you in.
  • ao3 is proship, profic, and anti-censorship.
  • any writer can write whatever they want, however they want. the only etiquette is that you tag your stuff properly and accurately
  • mistagging for visibility is heavily frowned upon here, and it won’t get your works more views. people will either block or report you if you deliberately mistag things with the purpose of getting your fic more views. as I’ve said before, ao3 is an archive. it’s not a social media. it doesn’t have algorithms or going viral.
  • there's a big difference between "&" and "/" in relationship tags: "Character A & Character B" tag means the relationship between Character A and Character B is neither romantic nor sexual, whereas "Character A/Character B" tag means the relationship between Character A and Character B is romantic and/or sexual.
  • if you come across a fic that has the tag “creator chose not to use archive warnings” it means the fic may or may not contain topics that can be triggering, but the author won’t tell you what these topics are, or if there are any at all. so proceed at your own risk.
  • that said, because ao3 is a non-profit site that hosts millions of works about others’ copyrighted characters, you CANNOT link a monetization platform anywhere on ao3, you CANNOT mention any donation, commission—or anything that involves money—anywhere on ao3. no, you cannot imply donation, commission, or anything that involves money either. that is against their terms of service.
  • and because ao3 is a place for fanworks, the “work section” of your post has to actually be fanwork (fanfic, original work, fan art, link to a video edit count as fanwork). anything that isn’t fanwork is not allowed.
  • you cannot post something on ao3 that is not fanwork. so no political statement, no call-out post, no “I’m looking for fics about xyz”.
  • ao3 is anti censorship as long as what your post is actually fanwork and as long as you don’t violate their terms of service that I’ve mentioned above.
  • ao3 has their own team of lawyers to protect them, their users, and every fanwork that is posted on their platform.
  • last but not least, don’t write directly onto ao3. write and store your works elsewhere before copy and paste them onto ao3 once they’re ready to post!! because ao3 does NOT autosave drafts for you, you risk losing everything you’ve typed if there’s a glitch, if the site crashes or if your device unexpectedly shuts down for whatever reason.

that’s all for now. have fun and happy writing/reading!

fascinating how often men expect women to sympathize with their fears of being perceived as or treated like a woman

so much "masculinity" is constructed around the certainty that being gay or being a woman is inherently demeaning. and we're supposed to nod along supportively

"male loneliness crisis" ok so like.....what would happen if you started acting like a better friend to other men in your life? what's stopping you? is it the fear of being perceived as one of your inferiors?

"men aren't allowed to show emotions" ok so like…..what would happen if you started being more emotionally expressive? what's stopping you? is it the fear of being perceived as one of your inferiors?

As trans woman who grew up in a very gendered part of society, this is pretty damn ignorant of the actual consequences people face for not properly performing expected masculinity. At least in the kind of culture I grew up in, being an unmanly man puts you well below a woman. Shunned by all is the minimum possible outcome, and it only stops there if you are extremely lucky. A community wide effort of emotional abuse is practically garunteed, and physical abuse is quite common. Vandalism of your property, housing discrimination, and employment discrimination is also common. Accusations of being a child predator are likely, and even if you avoid that by some miracle people will still treat you like you're going to abuse their children given even half a chance, which means you have to start being careful where you go if you don't want threats of violence or discrimination based on "righteous anger" against you on the assumption you are a pedophile.

Being excluded from almost all community resources is a given, which can literally get people killed if they don't have a strong support system. You need a ride to the hospital, or for a neighbor to pick up groceries while you are sick? Too fucking bad you pedophile piece of shit, should have thought of that before you were somewhat effeminate!

I hope you don't ever want to use a public pool or go to the public library, because people will assume you are there purely to prey on their children, and you will be lucky if this never escilates to violence - and when the police get called, they will not be on your side no matter what.

If you have kids, be ready for them to face extreme bullying and for other parents to forbid their kids from interacting with your kids. If you are a kid be prepared for a bullying campaign that is both extremely emotionally and physically abusive that will likely drive you to suicide attempts and will leave you emotionally scarred for life.

In short, men in these parts of society, which are far larger and more common than online people understand, who are seen as failing masculinity can expect all the same kinds of abuse trans women suffer, though usually not to the same degree. It still kills people, it's still horrible and violent and scaring if you survive.

When I was closeted, I had to navigate a culture like this. I saw what happened to men who didn't perform masculinity sufficiently. Gay men were common targets, any man who was somewhat effeminate, a kid in my school was singled out for one of the worst bullying campaigns I have ever seen because he carried hand sanitizer everywhere he went.

Well before i even knew being trans was possible, back when I identified as a man because I didn't even know there was another option I had nightmares that I would someday slip up and people would discover what was in my head and i would be subject to the same abuse I'd seen happen to other men.

The idea that men who fail at masculinity are effectively "demoted" in society to basically women is incredibly ignorant. In these communities, ostracized men are treated far, far worse than accepted women, and the threshold for men to become ostracized is incredibly low. And these cultures are extremely common, even if they are less well represented online.

Men are rightly terrified of the consequences of this kind of shunning, and this post is astonishingly ignorant to assume it's just a matter of being afraid of being treated like a woman.
