Crossposted to my journal and muggle_net a few days ago.

My new muse, although I don't really know what to do with him apart from getting him thoroughly screwed by Snape, is Gilderoy Lockhart. I used to think he was incredibly boring, but somehow he's utterly RANDOMLY decided to change my mind about that. Fair enough.

Now... I think the older generation, that is, Snape, Remus, Sirius, etc. were all far too old in the films anyway. These characters were canonly born in 1960, the books are setr 1991 - 98, at the time of the Prisoner of Azkaban, Remus, Sirius, Snape, Peter, etc. are 33. The film versions are all in their fourties, let alone how old Alan Rickman and Gary Oldman (Rick... man. Old... man. Hm.) REALLY are.

So okay, in film-canon, they're all too old. Plot was changed a bit then anyway.

However, the books are more canon than the films, and in these, Lockhart would be at MOST 32 at the time of Chamber of Secrets. Personally, I think he's actually a bit younger than Snape, I think he's around 29/30. Making Kenneth Brannagh decidedly too old.

AND too unattractive! As I said before, would Hermione fancy someone who could be her dad unless she had an Electra complex? Nooooo. 'Course not. And she doesn't, because she fancies Ron. But on with it.

I come to the conclusion that Lockhart was meant to be a lot younger and more attractive than he is in the film. Just as much of an airhead! But cuter. Kind of like a cross between Johnny Depp, John Rhys Meyers and Jude Law (funny how they all start with a J...) but less of the California Beach Boy look. Dorian Gray.

Yeah, Dorian Gray. Wouldn't J. K. Rowling model him on THE beautiful dandy, (tm)?

I think so.
