glinda: the leverage team making plans (team leverage)
[personal profile] glinda
This is a placeholder for my [community profile] hetswap dear author letter. (I don't have a lot of het ships, but those I do, I'm inordinately fond of.)

Generally, I love missing scenes and slice of life fics. Case fic, silliness and shenanigans are all also big hits with me. Also all my chosen pairings are canonically friends so I'd like something that builds on their canon friendships.

Wolf 359
Aaah tiny fandom of my heart. I am such a sucker for this pairing. Hera is my precious, broken darling. I have all the self-aware AI feels about her. I adore her odd little friendship with Doug. Those little moments we get off the two of them talking about stuff at the end of episodes, just grabbed me by the heart and made me love them both so much. I have this theory that their friendship is making them both better/healthier/kinder people? (I have actually written meta about their friendship previously that may or not be helpful to you. here)

Dr Who (Big Finish)
Charley & Eight first, so, I love an epic doomed love affair. Every moment they have together is stolen, she literally shouldn't exist any more. Time travel shenanigans are always fun with this pair. (Preferably set before they actually know why all the weirdness is happening.)
Evelyn & Six. I like how they're both grown-ups - even if they don't always act like it - and how that shapes their interactions. Also the way travelling with an older human makes the Doctor have to deal with (and conversely fails to deal with) his issues with mortality and the way he outlives all his travelling companions.

Leverage
Leverage! Parker is just the best. I love that they're kids who grew up in the care system and had incredibly different experiences, that shaped them but don't define them as adults. I love that Hardison is such a geek, and I kind of have a lot of feelings about Hardison as a person shaped by fandom and how that affects his interactions with Parker as she figures out who she is with these people and how she feels about him in particular. I love how different their personalities are but how well they fit together. Also I have a competency thing, and the whole team working together hits that, as do the smaller team of Parker, Hardison and Elliot. I think one of my favourite bits about their relationship on the show is that even once they're together as a romantic unit their friendship with Elliot is still just as important to them. None of this romantic relationships are the only kind that matter stuff.

New Avengers
Okay, so this is pretty exciting! Normally if The Avengers comes up in a ficathon its the orginal 60s era stuff. I never see stuff for the New Avengers era! (*whisper it* That was my first introduction to the series and is therefor my favourite!) So really, anything you want to write would be brilliant. I love Purdy, I spent a great deal of time around the ages of 10 - 13 wanting to be her. So as long as you make Purdy awesome and badass that's cool with me. (I seem to remember that Gambit was always trying to rescue her, and she always ended up having to rescue him instead!) I'm also amused by the inclusion of Emma Peel under The New Avengers but I'd love to see Emma and Steed meeting up again after all those years in this new spy world.

"You'll always be mine, always and never. Never. The Fire, baby. It'll burn us both. It'll kill us both. There's no place in this world for our kind of fire. Always and never. If I have to die for you tonight, I will."
- Sin City

"Pazuzu you ungrateful gargoyle, I put you through college and this is how you repay me?"

Kryten: "Is it just me, or is that cockroach shuffling too loudly?
Rimmer: "Kryten, it's called a hangover, don't panic."
Lister: "We're on a mining ship, three million years into deep space... can someone explain to me where the smeg I got this traffic cone?"
The Cat: "Hey! It's not a good night unless you get a traffic cone! It's the police woman's helmet and the suspenders I don't understand! "

"You call yourself a free spirit, a "wild thing," and you're terrified somebody's gonna stick you in a cage. Well baby, you're already in that cage. You built it yourself. And it's not bounded in the west by Tulip, Texas, or in the east by Somali-land. It's wherever you go. Because no matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself."

"Smell is the most powerful memory trigger there is. A certain flower or a whiff of smoke can bring up experiences long forgotten. Books smell - musty and rich. The knowledge gained from a computer has no texture, no context. It's there and then it's gone. If it's to last, then the getting of knowledge should be tangible. It should be smelly."
- Giles, BTVS

Creativity is... viewing the world from a different angle. Taking things from everyday life that otherwise might seem mundane and go un-noticed, and turning them into something beautiful. Finding beauty where there seems to be none and changing the perceptions of others so they can see that beauty too. Making something out of seemingly nothing...

"They have not wanted Peace at all; they have wanted to be spared war -- as though the absence of war was the same as peace."
- Dorothy Thompson

"Peace, in the sense of the absence of war, is of little value to someone who is dying of hunger or cold. It will not remove the pain of torture inflicted on a prisoner of conscience. It does not comfort those who have lost their loved ones in floods caused by senseless deforestation in a neighboring country. Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free."
- Dalai Lama

"First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me."
- Pastor Martin Niemöller

"History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again."
- Maya Angelou
