Converted

Converted is a shoot-from-the-hip media asset conversion system. It aims to convert video, audio, images, and text into alternate formats without any additional configuration or modification needed. This is a one-size-fits-all approach and may not be appropriate if you desire specific outcomes for your converted file.

Note: This is an early stage and the project description is aspirational. We don't yet support text conversion and many other conversion types. Our goal is for tech-savvy people to clone this repo and have a self-hosted way to convert images for themselves and their friends/colleagues/pets/whatever.

For a web interface of this functionality, see convertSage, converted in Ruby on Rails form.

Installation

Add this line to your application's Gemfile:

gem 'converted'

And then execute:

bundle install

Or install it yourself as:

gem install converted

Usage

PNG Example

converter = Converted::PNG.new('/root/someuser/converted/test/test_assets/image/test_image.png')

converter.convert_to_jpg('/root/someuser/somefolder/image.jpg')
converter.convert_to_gif('/root/someuser/somefolder/image.gif')
converter.convert_to_webp('/root/someuser/somefolder/image.webp')
converter.convert_to_avif('/root/someuser/somefolder/image.avif')
converter.convert_to_bmp('/root/someuser/somefolder/image.bmp', with_transparency: false)
# preverse transparency, but reduce color range from 32-bit to 24-bit
converter.convert_to_bmp('/root/someuser/somefolder/image.bmp', with_transparency: true)

Note: You can use irb to test from terminal:

# For example, png conversion
irb -Ilib -r converted/png
