I forgot to add that Sherlock has also been nominated for three BAFTA Craft Awards. They were announced on a different day and will be presented at a separate ceremony on May 13. (The BAFTA Television Awards will be presented on May 27.)

Anyway, the nominations...

WRITER - Steven Moffat
SOUND (FICTION) - John Mooney, Jeremy Child, Howard Bargroff, Doug Sinclair
EDITING (FICTION) - Charlie Phillips

All of the nominations were for the episode "A Scandal In Belgravia".

Doctor Who has only been nominated for one BAFTA Craft Award - and unsurprisingly that's for Visual Effects.

Sherlock has been nominated for three BAFTA Awards and the YouTube Audience Award. Nominations: Best Actor - Benedict Cumberbatch, Best Supporting Actor - Martin Freeman, Andrew Scott. BAFTA rules changed since last year; they now require that series nominated for Best Series to be at least five episodes long, which explains why Sherlock wasn't nominated for the category that it won last year. (Martin Freeman also won last year. Benedict Cumberbatch was nominated but lost to Daniel Rigby for Eric and Ernie. They also were nominated for the YouTube Audience Award, which they also lost. Here's hoping we make a mostly clean sweep this year.) The complete list of nominees can be found here

I couldn't find five of my Beatles CD's so in a panic I went through all of the boxes I'd shoved in the closet when I moved in. I thought they were full of magazines, etc. but I wanted to double-check. Turns out the CD's weren't in there (I eventually found them mixed in with the CD singles. *blush*) However, I did discover a bunch of interesting bits in some of the magazines that I'll be scanning and sharing.

I've put three up on my Tumblr so far.

Gary Oldman on the cover of The Face (February 1992)

SFX review of The Last Enemy starring Benedict Cumberbatch (May 2008)

John Barrowman interview with Vanity Fair (November 1995) - This is one of the oddest, most pointless interviews I've ever read.

Not all fan videos use a songs lyrics to tell their story. For example, in this weeks Video of the Week, a gorgeous fan video by lolilie, she does a remarkable job of using choice cuts of dialogue from the movie The King's Speech coupled with an evocative piece of orchestral music by Philip Glass (from the movie "The Hours") to build to an emotional crescendo. Quite simply, this is a brilliant piece of work. I was in tears before it was over. Simply stunning.

I've had some goofy NCIS-related pictures that I've wanted to snark on for a while... they're under the cut if anyone wants to snark with me. I think I can say they're spoiler-free. If you're worried about that kind of thing, best to avoid until the season is over I guess.

I've got to bridge a financial gap, so I'm offering up a bunch of DVD's for sale. They're bootlegs, so the quality will vary. The discs have pre-printed artwork (many in full color), are region free and come in a white paper envelope. Domestic US shipping is a flat $5.95 for however many DVD's you buy. I'll be shipping them in a flat-rate Priority Mail envelope with delivery confirmation. If you're overseas, let me know what country you're from and I'll calculate the postage.

DVD's are $5 a piece.

Just comment on this post with the DVD's you want and wait for my confirmation with your total cost. (If you're not a member of LJ but you'd like to place an order, you can contact me directly at gsmith at raspberryworld.net.) I prefer PayPal, but will accept checks/money orders/cash, of course.

Please spread the word in comments or to your friends who might be interested.

Thanks for your support!

The new Video of the Week is up over at Raspberry World. It's two weeks late but so very much worth the wait.

Contains spoilers for series two of Sherlock.

I dare you not to cry.

Over on Facebook in the "UNCLE Agents" group, whoever is running it posted a piece of artwork of mine without permission or giving credit.

They also trimmed the top of the piece to remove the line; I guess to make it "theirs".

When I called them on it, the reply I got was "Uh oh".

I pointed out they should go back through all the pictures/artwork they've "borrowed" and start crediting and/or asking permission for their use.

Their response was to delete the stupid picture of mine that they'd posted.

Does anyone know who's running that group?

I've been slightly annoyed for a while now at pictures from my little comm being posted in various forums without linking back to the comm or credit given (one of the only two things I asked of people). I know they're not "my" pictures, but I spend time working on them - fixing the color, cleaning up wear, etc. - so I don't think it's too out of line to be vexed a wee bit. I was especially pissed that one of the screencaps I did, that took a long time to get because it was incredibly difficult, was used in a different LJ comm without my permission.

Maybe I'm just over sensitive.

I've been having a rough go of it lately in my personal life. I'm not very happy and I don't have anyone to talk about it with.

I am considering just letting the comms go dormant at the end of the month. It's a lot of work and it's not giving me any joy. It's just not worth it.

PS - Now they're on the defensive over at the UNCLE Agents group. ("AGENTS: In going forward I would like to say, I get photos from sites that take them from other sites. Art work is often hard to find the artists names because it's from one site who took it from another site. If you know the Author or the Artist please help me out. You can simply type it under the picture. It is not my intention to hurt anyone's feelings by posting their work with out credit for it. Thanks." and "ONE last comment...I belong to A LOT of fan pages and groups and I think that I give more CREDIT than any of the other fan groups out there.") By the way, not a single picture is credited on that page. Whatever.

Yes, the Video of the Week over at Raspberry World is another brilliant Sherlock fan video that you can't watch unless you've seen Series 2.

This one goes beyond just being a terrific fan video, however. This is a flawless example of the heights of artistry this fandom is capable of attaining. Honestly, this could be a BBC advert promoting Series 3 - it's just that good.

I'm apparently Sweetpea Foxburr of Loamsdown...

I like it better than my Elf name (Finduilas Helyanwë) which I can't even begin to try and figure out how to pronounce.

Obviously, if you haven't watched series two don't watch this. If you have... well then, watch the shit out of it because it's simply amazing.

From the Radio Times:

Sherlock series three - filming begins early 2013

But it's too early to confirm transmission times, admits executive producer Beryl Vertue

It's the news you've been waiting for - the third series of Sherlock will begin filming in early 2013, according to Beryl Vertue, one of the show's executive producers.

However, Vertue - who is speaking at the Nations and Regions Media conference in Salford today - told BBC in-house publication Ariel that it was too early to confirm transmission times for the next series of the hit BBC1 drama, which completed its most recent run of episodes back in January of this year.

The announcement means that fans - who number around 10 million viewers - may have quite a wait before they discover how the great detective managed to fake his own death and survive his rooftop confrontation with Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott) at the end of the last series.

Lead actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman currently have big-screen commitments - Cumberbatch on the sequel to 2009's Star Trek and Freeman as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. But aficionados will be heartened to know that Baker Street still awaits the pair next year.

So Gregory Lestrade becomes Capt. Gregson.

I don't know whether to laugh or to cry.

From Deadline.com -
Aidan Quinn is set to co-star opposite Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu in CBS’ drama pilot Elementary. The project, written by Robert Doherty, is set in present day and stars Miller as eccentric Brit Sherlock Holmes, a former consultant to Scotland Yard whose addiction problems led him to a rehab center in New York City. Just out of rehab, Holmes now lives in Brooklyn with “sober companion” Joan Watson (Liu) while consulting for the NYPD. Quinn will play NYPD Captain Gregson who worked with Sherlock at Scotland Yard after 9/11 and was so impressed with his work that he has invited him to work as a consultant to the police in New York City. Gregson grew accustomed to Sherlock’s “eccentricities” in the U.K., but knows they won’t necessarily fly in the Big Apple. Michael Cuesta is directing the pilot, produced by CBS TV Studios and Timberman/Beverly. Quinn most recently played an NYPD detective on another primetime drama, NBC’s Prime Suspect.

The new Video of the Week is up over at Raspberry World.

This week, it's a lovely little Firefly fan video highlighting the relationship between Zoe and Wash.

georgiesmith: (person of interest)
Person of Interest hit an all-time high last night in adults 18-49 and total viewers and was up three tenths from its last original to a 3.4 adults 18-49 rating.

Awake came in second in its time slot but dropped 20% from last week's premiere to a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating.

The top five dramas for the week are all from CBS.

Person of Interest3.4/915.78
NCIS (R)2.4/414.49
The Mentalist2.8/813.79
NCIS: LA (R)1.9/512.10
CSI (R) 1.8/58.34

The last new episode of NCIS (2/28) garnered a 3.5/9 rating with 18.20 million viewers, so in the all important 18-49 rating Person of Interest is neck and neck with the procedural juggernaut.

Okay, rambling thoughts about tonights episodes of Person of Interest and Awake under the cut.

Read more... but it's spoilerrific )

I did a new Rodney McKay picture that I'm rather proud of. I've put it up on my Tumblr and also up on AO3 here. (I think - I hope - it's hard to tell, but the background is different than it is in the original picture. I didn't just add a logo and post it.) I think it's funny anyway.

Speaking of AO3, I'm amused that my most viewed stuff are now, for the most part, are the goofy pictures I've made and not my little goofy pieces of fiction. In fact, right now the number one thing of mine is a NCIS comic that I was told to remove from a comm here on LJ, which is what prompted me to start posting my "artwork" on AO3 in the first place!

Someone posted a scan of an article on Person of Interest from CBS Watch magazine. It's very interesting and has a lovely photograph of Mr. Reese and Mr. Finch. You can find it here.

Here's a lovely Gabriel Macht/Harvey Specter manip and here are a couple pictures of Gabriel scruffy and barefoot... you know, for those of you who care about such things.

I don't know if all of these links still work, but here is a Benedict Cumberbatch masterpost with links to download a lot of his movie and television stuff.

I've also discovered a new artist that I think you'll like. This is an example of one of her pieces that I adore.

Okay, that's enough for now.

I hadn't realized it until today but I appear to have something of a fetish for me in undone boots.

Maybe it's just these three men. I sincerely doubt it, though.
