For now, its just the two of us. I'm not surprised that there isn't a mass-movement to join the club. I know our population spread is pretty low, about 5%.

Intellect garners no groupies or fan clubs. I loved a sliders' episode where people were brain-addicts rather than sports addicts. The "World Cup" was a chess tournament.

Geeky guys were worshipped by females the same way that Van Damme and Alexander Gudinov are now.

There WAS a time when all this held true. The pre-industrial age was when science was just blooming, just before Ford started rolling cars off the assembly line. People everywhere, in any country, from common folk to kings and queens adored the scientist.

Corporations absorbed all that.

Then there was the age of computers, where nerds and dot.com owners were all the rage.

Corporations absorbed all that too.

Now people are becoming more socialized. I wonder how Corporations will absorb socialism, or will they be able to?

Logic

Most of what people say is pure opinion, based in desire or in personal experience rather than careful examination.

logic means admitting that things you don't like may be true. It means discarding belief, and emotions, for things that just make sense in some way either through argument, demonstrable fact, or probabilities.

God is right out, so is Magic.

This is not to say that there "Can't Be" an afterlife, prelife, parallel worlds, other universes, or other phenomena which are simply unprovable by TODAY's science but which may be discovered in the future. Rather, we admit that some things are currently unknowable, and that therefore there can be NO authority on the subject!

We are also Liberal by definition. I defy any ultra-conservative to claim the title of Genius, its diametrically opposed to fundamentalism. Hate is not logic.

Welcome to Genii Club.

If you're here, you were invited to join or asked to join. I made this club private to avoid hecklers, anonymous posts, and other problems. Additionally, with this privacy we can speak freely among ourselves and not have to explain every point.

This club is formed with the idea of logical discourse, rethinking the traditional 'catholic' logic taught in most schools, and a dedication to the scientific method. That's not to say I don't respect holistic medicine, pagans, and alternate universes; but, to indicate that I spend most of my energy working with that which is proven or testable.

Eventually science may advance to the point that it would be able to perform things now considered magical, such as telepathy, FTL, matter conversion, and so on. I don't debate the future as a single path, but rather as a giant cord of millions of paths.

As a first post, I want to lay down not rules, but concepts. As genius class people, aka genii, we are sometimes comparable to djiin of mythology by people of lesser education. The common folk often feel that the rich and the intelligent people in their lives are impossible to understand, thereby somewhat magical to them. You see it in idol worship, such as fans of Tori Amos, and in class mystique, such as admiration of Steven Hawkins or Bill Gates.

Its often said that if you're smart, why aren't you rich? The truth is that intelligent people often disdain wealth and power. The more wealth you have the more of an obligation you have to serve the wealth, rather than it serving you. The more power you have, the less freedom you have. Scientists like to be free of money and power concerns so that they may focus on research.

This is why NASA sucks so badly.

Our universities once gave grants to do research without strings attached, and the sciences in America accellerated. Now, there's national security, the university wants full control, the scientists are forced to give up patent rights, and so on. Its no surprise that research here is lagging even while it grows by leaps overseas.

I hope we have a more free exchange of ideas, passions, and comraderie here.
