Hi everyone, I just wanted to let everyone know that the alumni chapter of GDB called Guide Dog Handlers All Ways, for GDB handlers with disabilities in addition to blindness, has a blog now. You can find it on livejournal under gdhaw We will be posting member stories and other information. All are welcome.

I hope that everyone enjoys their 4th of July and gives their puppy an extra treat in light of the festive day.
You'll probably all be eating extra food so give them an extra bite or two.

GDB has finally made it onto the LiveJournal schools directory! Now, like those affiliated with GDF, we can have our guide dog school on our school's section of our profile too. Yays!

Here i a message that I sent to the GDB yahoo group.
Thank you all for your comments/emails upon my receiving Norwood.
Norwood and I made it home safely on Monday after a flight cancelation, etc.
He's stil a fabulous dog, but of course there are some new home kinks.
Norwood would never relieve on pavement at school. We decided to forego the pavement
and let him go on grass after he peedon my floor in the dorm and threw up on his
rug. (Both were on separate days.) He never had a problem on grass. However,
relieving is presenting a bit of a challenge at home. We live in an apartment,
so the relieving areas are grass. He's only pooped there once. He never pooped
in harness at school, but for the last 3 days he's done so when teaching him
my route to work. He doesn't give me any indication that he is pooping. If
my husband wasn't there, I wouldn't have known. I've tried playing
with him in the morning and giving him longer to relieve.
Tonight, we matched him. The match came out, but no poop. After nearly a ahalf
hour, some guy who is moving out came out with a big, long lamp. I think Norwood
freaked. He ran into my shin pretty hard, and he started barking. He bolted, and
the leash went out of my hand. Again, my husband was there this time and gave me
back the leash. I immediately took Norwood inside and put him on tie-down.
I know adjusting takes time, but I'm not sure what to do in regards to proceeding.

I am at GDB in CA right now, and I have my first guide. His name is Norwood, and he is a yellow Lab. We were awarded our dogs on Jul. 5. I'm so proud and excited.

How do you all handle tie-down at home/at work? I don't really want to drill an eye-hook in my wall. How do you attach it, and where do you attach it in your office/if you're traveling? Thanks.

I just got a new cat. My seven year old guide dog is doing just fine with her, but I notice that she is not playing. She doesn't play ball or chew on her bones. I just got the kitten, who is seven weeks old, yesterday. Should I be worried yet? I've tried offering the guide dog bones, and balls, but she won't take them. Should I just give it time?
