Me: "Damn people are REALLY BAD at knowing when to tag their eyestrain art/images...either that or they just don't care about photosenitive epileptic people like me. I feel really sad now."

Person: "But Allison, what if they just don't know or understand what qualifies as eyestrain and what doesn't?"

Me: "You know what? That could be a factor...While it is always better to be safe rather than sorry (so YES people should always tag eyestrain even if they're unsure if it "counts" or not) maybe you've got a point?"

Anyways! HERE'S YOUR HANDY GUIDE TO WHAT CAN COUNT AS EYESTRAIN! I'm pulling this straight from the Artfight rules page about what needs to be labeled and filtered as eyestrain because it's VERY helpful and VERY accurate! I also know not everybody has an AF account and might not always have access to this handy guide, and this is an important resource; That's why I'm sharing it here! (under the cut)

PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY!!! THIS IS ABOUT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF OTHERS!!!

This.

Like, I very much appreciate people trying to be mindful of their consumption and trying to be sustainable. But I need y'all to understand that it literally does not matter. The top 10% are doing more damage than all of us together could ever prevent.

you know, until we remember what to do with rich bastards.

The problem is wider even than this shows. In order to get $300 million plus over a million per tank into one person's pockets entire useless industries have to exist. Thousands of people manufacturing, transporting, and most importantly advertising, just... Product. Product that is most likely going to be landfill in a few years. Product which does not really need to exist, and which will either break too soon in service of selling more Product, or which will never be used at all. Product that replaces old Product, that was perfectly fine actually, but this is New Product. Product that has an enormous footprint associated with its simple existence, and whose existence is only necessary as the basis for the enormous gambling experiment sometimes called the economy. You don't get money for $1.2 million of fuel by hand-stitching high-quality shoes that last a lifetime. $1.2 million of money to literally burn in a megayacht only comes from an entire system of extraction, exploitation, and waste, and it only accumulates in the pockets of those ruthless enough to gamble with all of it.

Well, that would all be true of Jeff Bezos' megayacht, the largest in the world, built off the back of a trillion pieces of plastic tat. The pictured one seems to be bought mostly with investments in chemical and coal, which are... Not exactly notable as environmentally friendly industries. But don't worry, like a good citizen I wash my garbage so it can (maybe?) get recycled.

While watching a DVD from the library my TV popped up a message saying to press a button if I wanted to watch this from additional providers.

It's never done that before so I looked it up and turns out Roku TVs have added all sorts of creepy things in the privacy section since I last checked.

One of which being they take screenshots from what you're watching and send them to third parties to identify it.

Fucking hell! Remember when every fucking device in your life wasn't a spy implanted in your home and working against your interests to try and sell your data? Remember how nice that was??

Remember when the TV was just a tool that would play the things you plugged into it?

Why must the future suck SO much?

A good rundown on what each brand of TV is up to and which settings you should turn off.

PSA - Do not buy an LG smart TV. They just added a line to their terms of use that it's the user's responsibility to inform any guests in their house that by entering they consent to be recorded, in order to comply with wiretapping laws. That thing is literally recording you.

You can find tutorials online telling you how to open that thing up and physically remove the mic and wifi module. Frankly I don't trust anything less.

Please watch the Gamers Nexus video on LG Smart TV's and monitors! It's basically malware at this point.

"Naga's Eye" That Appears When It Rains. Thailand's Mystical Rock Formation

❝ In Phu Langka Plateau (National Park) in Bueng Kan Province, when rainwater accumulates on a natural rock near Naga Cave, it resembles an eye, earning it the name "Naga's Eye" (the eye of the serpent deity). This cave is tied to legends and beliefs surrounding the Naga, and it's said that Naga Cave is a giant serpent that was cursed and turned to stone.❞

I'm sorry, is this... Is this implying there's no DYE in that rug? All raw wool in its natural colours? She fucking bred the sheep to get the colours she wanted over the course of ten years!? Holy shit.

Edit: this has gotten a huge amount of traction (fibrearts tumblr is a, uh, tight-knit community it seems!) so I am adding this note to state that I checked Lola Cody's website and can confirm: There is no dye in her work. She uses exclusively hand-spun Churro wool sheared from her home-raised sheep flock. It's all natural colours!
