NEI

Hello,
I’ve been a part of this community for awhile and I never thought to ask if anyone here goes to NEI (New England Institute) @ Mount Ida College. I’m a sophomore there doing their bachelor program, and I love it here, it’s a great school.

Does any one else go to NEI?

The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA)
projects there will be a shortage of funeral service
workers in the next six to ten years. To determine if and how this will impact funeral establishments and licensees, we are launching a funeral service retention study and we are seeking the participation of both employers and employees.
The study will be web-based and consist of a series of 12 short (10 to 12 questions) surveys over the course of the next three years. We are fortunate to have the Siena College Research Institute (SRI) conducting the study so that we can assure that all responses remain completely confidential.

The information provided by you and others like you will help:

Track the retention and attrition of individuals in the funeral profession by subgroups including items such as gender, age and race/ethnicity;
Identify reasons individuals exit the profession;
Explore what funeral home operators can do to enhance working conditions; and,
Explore the ways in which those in the profession can adopt strategies in order to retain qualified individuals at all levels.

schools?

Hi, I'm Mariah & I'm new. I've contemplated mortuary science for a long time, much to the chagrin of my mother. Can anyone suggest some choice schools in Kentucky or the southeast in general (even further north would suffice) for mortuary science?

All suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi, everyone. I just joined this community recently.

I am from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and I'm currently attending Vincennes University, in Vincennes, Indiana. This is my first year in the Funeral Service program, but I like it so far. After wasting away a good 7 years of my life working directly after graduating high school, I realized that I needed to do something with my life. I don't know about all of you, but when people ask me why I decided to choose this profession, I can't come out with a direct reason. I don't really know, but I've always thought death, itself, was interesting. I'm not one of those morbid freaks that is fascinated with death to the point where they are killing and torturing animals and such, though. I think part of the reason it was so interesting was the fact that no one really talked about it; it was one of those things you don't really talk about. I've always had a twisted sense of humor, and joked about how I would be a mortician when I grew up(this was back in middle school.) Of course, at that time, I never thought I would actually go to college for it, heh. Before signing up for college, I was considering what type of job I wanted to do. Of course, I couldn't think of anything at first. But, on a whim, I decided to look into the Funeral Service thing, and see how that worked, and it appealed to me. After reading various things online, I came to see that it's much more than just dressing up a dead body, and making it look good. It's about closure, among other things. Knowing that you will be making the person's appearance as it will be seen for the last time is rather intimidating, though. But, I know that the rewards overbalance such pitfalls. I'm looking forward to my upcoming Funeral classes, and can't wait until I can get into the job, itself. I'm currently taking Restorative Art, Restorative Art Lab(this class is fun), and Funeral History. Although Funeral History is kinda boring, the other classes are great. I've always been good at memorizing things, such as bones and muscles, so the terminology part of Restorative Art isn't so bad. Anyways, I'm rambling.
