Hey everyone! I'm new to this community and also a new apprentice for a small funeral home in Washington state. I sent my apprenticeship application about ten days ago, but I moved and had to change my address. I think the funeral director I am apprenticing under corrected the problem, but is it still common to have to wait this long for the card that they send you? If there were I problem, I'm sure they would have contacted the funeral director... correct?
Thanks! I'm such a typical type A personality and I'm up late stressing out about this, which is probably why this career choice was a good one for me! Nice to find a group like this, thanks in advance!

At the end of my first semester I love mortuary school! It's a lot of work and it's intimidating and over whelming in spots but I'm having so much fun! I should end up with high B's in all but orientation. Missed a C by 2.5 points (blatantly did not do the paper).
I had expected Thano to be easy but boring and far too touchy feely but it wasn't too bad. Anatomy & Pysiology was awesome, except for the micro test that litteraly three people passed. Managment would suck horribly but the teacher does her best to keep us entertained while we suffer. Orientation and funeral services are both full of really interesting things. Excellent professors all around. Really the whole program at Cypress is amazing!
Most of the people I'm in the program with are pretty good too. It's an odd an wonderful thing to be surrounded by freaks at least as odd as I am :p
There is one chick who is full of stupid, and she's a great source of entertainment. For example and I quote "If the cerebral spinal fluid protects the brain why can't you shake a baby?" "you mean they have to sit with the dead guy the whole flight!? Why? Why not throw him.. I mean they toss bodies out at sea right, so why not just throw them out the window [of the plane]?" O.o She also seems to be utterly lacking in compassion and a bit of a bigot but that's not quite so funny.
Has anyone taken the funeral program at American River college in Sacramento?
WORST BOOK EVER.
You know the people that made it through high school English with papers full of double speak and superfluous words so that they could fill 10 pages with 6 pages worth of info and managed to say nothing of substance? Well guess who wrote a book! >.<
Besides that Mortuary school is great.
I have recently been doing research on mortuary science and have applied to the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. I have been looking all over for reviews or more information on the school but haven't had any luck. So i was wondering if any of you guys have any knowledge on them. I have already called and talked to admissions there and it sounds good so far and still waiting to see if i have been accepted. But just wanted to get some opinions! I'd really appreciate it!
I am going to go to college for funeral directing in another two years. Currently I am getting my sociology degree with a minor in criminology at Keene State College in Keene NH. I was originally also going for elementary education, and quickly realized that that was NOT my field at all. I have wanted to be a funeral director since I was ten years old, but I didn't tell any of my family because I knew that they wouldn't like the idea. So...here I am, 21, almost 22, and finally following my dream! :D
I am hoping to get into Mt. Ida college down in Newton, MA :)
Does anyone want to be friends? :D
