Life’s A Bitch, Now So Am I

all you have to do is post literally one time defending jewish people and antisemites will just automatically assume you must be jewish and that's actually pretty chilling because if i posted being like "actually, i think it's crazy to hate black people just because they're black." that would not immediately signal people to assume that i'm black. jewish people are so inherently ostracized from every side of the political spectrum that even the mildest defense MUST only be coming from another jew because who else would ever bother.

it's inch resting to see people in the year 2026 doom posting about harris possibly running for president. i wouldn't discount her yet! but also it's not even officially primary season yet!

besides this looks to me like it will be a fairly crowded primary and people will get to develop additional thoughts and feelings about the rest of the candidates and so things will shake out how they shake out.

i was joined by houdini and miss california for my viewing of le vourdalak and now that i'm back to reading i've been joined by All Three Of Them <333

one of the random old paperbacks i picked up at the oddities & curiosities fair is wild. it's called 'the truth about dracula' and purports to be a nonfiction book that examines the array of vampire legends from across europe (apparently the rest of the world is outside the scope of this work and has no impact on the balkans lol) through to the legends and rumors associated with prince vlad tepes and countess elizabeth bathory. however. this is definitely a text that will not examine the rumor and maligning of bathory critically because the author accepts the "fact" that she was somehow responsible for the murder of ~650 young christian maidens, when like that seems like something a political rival would say while trying to justify her ouster and eventual death.

not to be copying points from dana schwartz's podcast from like 2022, but like the confirmed serial killer darya saltykova in russia killed a maximum of 138 people and had a reputation for abusing serfs before she was caught and tried for murder. none of what this author purports to be true about bathory supports an established history of abuse or violence she displayed to servants or serfs that would result in anything resembling the purported 650 deaths, particularly because it rests on his supposition that she was engaging in a "widespread" practice of "blood healing" and when that didn't work she engaged in "blood magic". which like his main source on that was mallory's arthur stories, so like lolll. while i could see bathory being thrown out of her position for cruelty or rudeness to fellow nobility in addition to being an inconvenient woman, i think the charges of being a serial killing "lesbian sadist" are fairly baseless.
