irresistible /enticing

I think enticing or irresistible can be the possible answer, but the answer sheet says only tempting is possible. Why?

When you get home from a day’s studying or work it’s all too .................. to slump on the sofa in front of the telly

    • Well, tempting would be my answer. If it's irresistible, you won't be able to resist... so you're definitely going to give in to the slump. But if it's tempting you have a choice... you can resist temptation if you try.

    And on a native-speaker note, I can simply tell you that tempting is what we would say here. I think many right answers depend on familiarity with normal usage, and that is something acquired over time. Learners of English simply won't have the experience to know these things and will have to rely on memorization until it becomes natural.
     
    What about 'enticing'? Tempting and enticing sounds very similar in terms of meaning.What do you think?
     
    I can almost see enticing but it has one big drawback -- tempting is a better choice in this multiple-choice quiz that we want to pass. :)
     
    Usually multiple-choice questions like this have just one correct answer, and for some reason (which you are expected to know or work out) the other three are not quite right. In this one, however, all four answers are definitely possible, and you're being asked to give which one sounds best. That may be difficult to decide, but don't think the others are wrong.
     
    I still have a question . If ' enticing' invovles strong desire, it means like ' irresitable' , we cannot resist something and to what we want to do?
     
    The only thing you can't resist is irresistible. You can resist enticing, attractive and tempting. Don't think that enticing means irresistible... it doesn't.
