This is awesome! I had no idea this community existed, but I stumbled across it during a LJ search for 'roadside attractions.'

My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of visiting the Forevertron in October of last year and he made a video about it:

Messages

Hey all,
I'm heading up to hang out with Doc today. Does anyone have any messages or anything they'd like me to pass along to him?
Thanks!

Doc and the sculpture park are featured in a great new book, "Weird Wisconsin". A writeup o the book can be found at the Barnes and Noble site, here.

Googling also brings up the Weird Wisconsin website, also a thing of greatness that most of you are probably aware of. http://www.weird-wi.com/

I haven't talked to Doc in awhile, though he says he's up on just crutches and is doing pretty damn well.

A short update once again...
Doc is doing pretty well, and is in good spirits. They fixed up the right side of his hip, and he's not having any pain with it. If he can get around with crutches, he'll be happy.

As for the park, it is open during the day from 9-5. Delany's has a new partner, and they put up an inside gate to close off the park. Miss Eleanor didn't even have a key for it for awhile. So, the park is open the hours that Delany's is open, meaning no weekends or holidays. Sadly, that's the busiest times for the park, and the days they make a few extra dollars selling some of the sculptures.
The move will most likely happen within a year or two. There hasn't been a new site finalized yet. I would anticipate that there may need to be some sort of fund-raising effort that will need to happen. Most of the sculpture was made to be taken apart and moved, as it was always the plan to do so eventually.

He did make a funny comment the other day about how all sorts of great bands keep stopping up there and visiting, and that he was getting quite a stack of cd's from them. He thought it was great, and wondered who the heck was sending all those people up there. Haha. I point my finger mainly at you, hotshotrobot. If you don't look out, Doc's going to end up with a better cd collection than you!

Doc's hip

The Doctor is getting new parts installed this thursday. He hates hospitals, really only likes a few doctors, and I'm sure he'll be pretty grumpy. For those of you so inclined, please think happy thoughts for him this week. I imagine a hip replacement will not be fun.

I'll be visiting him on friday, most likely, and will give an update this weekend.

If you feel so inclined, you can send well wishes to P.O. Box 22, Prairie Du Sac, WI 53578.

There hasn't been much activity in this community for awhile. Mainly because of Doc's having to regain his health after his stroke. Chatting on the phone with him isn't the same as hanging out in person with him, as those of you who have spent any time with him probably know. I miss hanging out with the old goat.
The episode of "Monster Nation" that features Doc and the art park has been aired a few times. The show is from the makers of "Monster Garage" and "Monster House", and is aired, I believe, on the Discovery Channel. This is the show that they were filming the day Doc had his stroke, so he was certainly not at his best. I'm interested to see how it turned out.
Doc was also featured in a scrap metal industry magazine, called Scrap appropriately enough. I couldn't find the article online, but I found the magazine's website at http://www.scrap.org/current_issue… .

Oh yeah, and he's finally letting someone write his life story...

two questions...in case you know...
1.) is the good doctor familiar with the work of harry partch?
2.) was the doctor raised in the baraboo, wisc. dells area? how much influence did other attractions in the area affect or inspire him? specifically the wisc. dells xanadu....
