Mike Birbiglia

So- I'm a slacker and have horribly neglected this community.
Anyway-
Saw Mike Birbiglia last night and he was wicked funny! Also really cool to chat with afterwards. He did a pretty long set and answered someone's cell phone. My friend Kara thinks he has a hot ass. He's a cool, chill guy, and is in the top ten for Comedy Central's Standup Showdown Check it out. There's a lot of good comedians on there, but Mike was one of the coolest to come through in a long time.

Love is being able to say things from stand-up bits and having the other person pick up on it and start acting it out.

While sitting in front of the fan (because it was 85 degrees out at 9 o'clock)
Him: Oscilliating fan, what a cruel joke that is, huh?
Me: Yeah, it's like waiting for a bus.
(both of us acting very excited and refreshed while the fan is blowing on us)
Him: That was good, wasn't it? That was nice. (as the fan blows past him)
Him: Ahhh! I wasn't ready! Dammit!

Also, as I was getting money from an ATM

"Run! It's Mike Wallace, run! The media is there!"

Here's the message I sent to Jackie and her reply. Huzzah for geeky fandom.

If I wrote stand upand let my hair go back to it's natural color and cut it short, I think we would have the same act. I just watched you on Comedy Central, and am
ridiculously impressed. It was so refreshing to hear a woman talking about dorky stuff like videogames and the "Dork Forest." I believe it is about a third of the way into the Dork Forest that I met my fiance, who loves videogames almost as much as I do. In a world where there is a shortage of truly excellent female comics, and an even greater shortage of female comics who don't just talk about their boyfriends for half an hour you are a delicious rarity.
Also, FF Legends is indeed one of the best videogames ever. Currently I'm about 100 hours in FF-X, with some Tony Hawk on the side. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how much I loved our act. Hopefully someday you will be doing a show near me and I can come see you in person. There are too few of us hip-geeky chicks out there, we need to stick together. Sincerely, Quinn

And her reply

Hi Quinn,

First. Cool name. Tony Hawk on the side is sweet! I play mostly uprights
cuz having them in the house decreases productivity. Thanks for liking the
set! I have some material about the boyfriend, but since he works at
playstation, it's really just more video game stuff. I hope you beat the
games and don't do anything too drastic to your hair. Mine is "foiled"
anyway. take care, jackie

By way of introduction:
I started this community because there seemed to be a shortage of communities about stand-up that were not dedicated to a specific comic. So I says to myself, self I says, why don't you start a community dedicated to general stand-up discussion. So then I says, self, that's a good idea, I will do just that!

And I did.

Once again, stand up has restored my faith in humanity. I wrote Jackie Kashian a short email, saying that I enjoyed her act, and she wrote me back quickly and nicely. Yaay!
She is currently in an argument with the town of North Platt, NE.
Muaha, this makes me think I should write to more comics.
