Save the Internet

My online network is small, but this has been buzzing around the webs and is reaching a crucial point, so I thought I'd get this out to at least you guys. Two congressmen (1 R-TX + 1 D-IL = 2 cockgoblins) are pushing a bill that would hand control of the internet's distribution of resources (like bandwidth) and content to the telecoms. This means that, for example, Comcast could severely limit the speed at which tou connect to say, Google, or restrict access alltogether, then advertise their own search engine. This is a limited example, as they could do this to ANY website on the internet. This would also give them the ability, as some have theorized, to offer premium, paid packages containing more stringent speed limits, maximums on how much you can download per month, and "channel" packages, i.e., buying a subscription to Tech websites like Slashdot, Wired, etc. for a fee that primarily goes to the service provider.  The future of sites like Geocities,  and other free services would be in jeopardy.  If your favorite site can't affored to pay to be on one or more networks' green list, it will dissappear.  I don't usually participate in these types of rallies, but this is honestly some vulgar shit. If you want a link, head to savetheinternet.com and do with it what you will.

In other news, I got Brain Age, for the Nintendo DS!  It is a piece of software developed by Dr. Ryuta Kawashima, a leading neuroscientist in Japan.  You do alot of basic math problems at speed, reading tests, number games etc, to help you "train your brain" and keep you sharp.  Also, it come with like a hojillion sudoku puzzles.  Not exactly a game, but entertaining none the less.

that time of year again

Hello everyone,

I'm thinking about organizing a yard sale at my parents' home this summer. Would anyone else like to participate?

I think the tentative date would be around late July/early August. I was planning on spending some time near Chicagoland then anyway for my birthday. Maybe we could organize a trip to Elk Grove Village to see Jan and Josh!

If you think you'd be interested, leave a comment and we'll start scheming. My parents have hosted TONS of sales before, and we have plenty of tables, tarps, clothes racks, pricing stickers and all other neccessary supplies. I should also add that we'll have free advertising in the local newspaper because my mom receives free classified ads as an employee. We always get great turnouts, too!

Par-tay!

Because she's being all modest, I'll announce that Andrea has been accepted into JET and she'll be graduating with some awards.

And since she'll be taking her MCATs Saturday, I think we should take this opportunity to help her unwind. Other than the drag show on Saturday evening, what shall we do?

Important Muse Information!

From the Emens website:
Sunday, April 24
MUSE w/Special Guest RAZORLIGHT - 8PM
Tickets for this show go on sale Friday, March 25 at noon.
Student tickets are $10 and non-students are $15. Limit of four student tickets per ID.

The ad in the paper today said that student tickets were only available at the box office at noon. Public tickets are available on the Ticketmaster website and at the box office.

I don't have classes on Friday so I don't mind volunteering to sit in line at the B.O.on Friday morning. But, I can only purchase 4 student tickets: myself, Andy, Andrea and one more person. I'm assuming from the above information I could also purchase non-student tickets for Cristella and Sara.

So, this is the final roll call for Muse. If you want a ticket with us, we need to know today so we can arrange for someone else to be in line with me if the need arises.

If anyone did want to sit in line with me for shits'n'giggles, I was thinking I'd get there around 9, 9:30a. I'll probably get something to eat on the way there too. Is there a Dunkin' Donuts in Muncie? I've never seen one.

Also, my friend PJ gave me a link to the hilarious stories of the JET teacher some of us were discussing last Friday. The Moeko's Owl story made me misty eyed.

One more thing: Does anyone here know anything about Christianity in China and other Asian countries? I'm writing a paper that examines the ties between the emergence of Christianity in China and their economic transition from socialism to a more pseudo-socialist, sorta-capitalist economy [e.g., has the Protestant work ethic struck again?] Of course, I have this idea less than a week before my paper is due, which mean I'll be doing a whole lot of writing this weekend. pfeh.

roll call for the Muse show

Ticketmaster has some information about the show available on their website.

Tickets are $15 and go on sale March 25th at noon. I don't know if they are available at the box office or strictly online.

I'm assuming we'll all want to sit together, so we'll need to buy our tickets at once. If you're interested in going, leave a comment or get in touch with me. We can put the tickets on my card and everyone can pay me back.

Also, from 10:30 to 3:30 on the day of the show, MTV is taping stuff at LaFollette field and giving away VIP passes to the show [knowing MTV, there's probably some skull-numbing contest involved to win]. Anyone want to attend? I'll probably go since I, y'know, live across the street.

And don't forget about the Indian dinner tomorrow night!

Friday dinner (March 18)

Hey guys 'n girls!

How about going to this on Friday night?

Just wanted to let you all know about a good
opportunity to enjoy a fine meal, rub elbows with some
international students, and help victims of the
tsunami. From 6 to 8 p.m., on Mar. 18, at the Campus
Christian House at 14ll W. Riverside Ave., some
international students are putting on a vegetarian
Indian dinner, with proceeds to go to victims of the
tsunami. The cost to students is five dollars. You
can buy tickets ahead of time at the Center for
International Programs or at the door.

There's an old prof of mine I have to go see. :) Since I have work until 7 pm, you guys can go ahead and go there whenever you like and I'll meet up with you when I can.
