Icon meme and assorted blathering
This went on for a while, so have some cuts!
taste_is_sweet [asked me] about a few of my icons. According to the rules of the meme, it's six icons, but as I only have a basic account, I only have six icon slots on my account. (But between [LJ] and [DW] I have twelve slots, I'm using nine of them, and I have seven different icons.) Anyway, she chose three. Feel free to ask me about the others, if you wish.
Meme: If you want to play, just tell me in the comments and I'll pick six of your icons so you can post about why you have them. :) Spread the icon love!

My default fish icon I made myself, from google image-searching 'fish' (or possibly 'tropical fish') and then I shrunk and cropped it into an icon-able size. I like fish (I think I even have a meme answer I owe Jades discussing this), and I like the balance in this image. Plus, bettas are cool! I think I spent maybe an hour or less making this icon-- I did it back when I first got my LJ, on the theory that it was better to have a temporary icon and change it later than never have an icon. I'm rather fond of it now, and it has become my 'face' to me, so I doubt I'll change it.

The amplificathon one comes from the comm of the same name
amplificathon/
amplificathon, which is an awesome podfic comm that I quite adore. I originally selected it as a way of pimping the comm (presumably to be used in replies talking about podfic), but then I haven't really used it too much. (Obligatory comm pimp, from the journal summary: "an annual podfic challenge. it's designed to promote the diversity of podfic across fandoms and pairings, and to give us all more to choose from as listeners.") I mostly use the icon when I'm posting links to the audiofic archive on the comm, so I probably should replace it with an 'audiofic archive volunteer' icon, but I haven't gotten around to it. And for what it's worth, I participate in amplificathon by commenting (not so much this year) and listening (again, not so much as last year, which has more to do with work being less boring than a decrease in interest in podfic) and by occasionally uploading podfics to [the archive].

Kitten sandwich is my all-purpose kitten icon. I originally saw it in replies at a post of Jadesfire's journal, I think rustydog or donutsweeper used it? In my mind it stands for hugs (because, look! the bread is hugging the kitten!), or general kitten/cuteness, or food (because, bread!), and sometimes for silliness or because it makes me happy. It might get replaced at some point (possibly with another icon that fulfills one of these roles, or possibly with one that is entirely different), but at the moment it is amusing me so it stays.
*other things*
If I actually post the meme and what my prompt is in a private-locked entry as soon as I get it, it's much easier for me to keep track of what memes I have yet to answer. (Also, if you know of any memes I've promised answers on, drop me a line here.)
So remember the post from the other day where I said I had a very lot of flist entries to catch up on? I'm now declaring amnesty on them and LJ-comment emails from during the same time period because I'm stupid. (there's still a few personal emails I have to get to, which I will, I promise.) I had a window with all the things I wanted to comment on opened in tabs. I also had a window up with recipes. And of course, I closed the wrong window :( So I have read the important things and skimmed the less important ones, I just haven't replied.
Have been spacey lately, bah. But have actually gotten some writing done :) It's not as much as I want, but I should be able to finish at least one more story before cliche_bingo closes.
Thinkyposts, especially when I put the label 'meta' on them, take a while to write. Silly brain, wanting to be coherent when presenting thoughts to the world!
I have a draft of five-ish days of podfic recs... I need to decide how I want to do days 3 and 4, and what theme I want for day 5. I'm tempted to go with 'fics I think would be really well-suited for podficcing' but that's actually a really complicated statement, as there are things that would work well for one reader but not another, and then there are fics that I would love to have portable but aren't stellar examples of audio fiction. Or I might go with 'misc fics'. Or I might skip day five and declare four rec sets sufficient. The post for day 1 is very nearly finished and day 2 is started. Hopefully I'll start posting them soon.
I keep forgetting that I'm only vaguely competent with graphics with a program I don't have access to anymore and utterly incompent with anything I do have access to. This makes things difficult.
I want an icon with a narwhal that says something to the tune of 'narwhals, the unicorns of the sea'.
amplificathon/
amplificathon has opened [a new fest]: a podfic gift exchange of fics >30k words. This is really cool. I don't have a mic, have no experience in podficcing, hate my recorded voice, and always talk too fast, so I'm not participating but I sort of wish I was. I have a feeling that in another year or so I'll give in and get a mic and start with the podficcing.
ETA: So the last set of recs for last week's
spngenlove just went up. As I skimmed the post I saw that
redrikki's SPN/SG1 story ['Anise Rides Again'] had been recced and my first thought was 'Drat, there goes my plan to rec it as an off-theme rec for this week!' And then I read the reader's summary because it's always fun to see what other people choose to say about fics you like. And it kind of reads like I might have recced it but I don't think I did. *has a memory like a goldfish* *goes off to check* Evidently I didn't submit that rec. Now I want to know who did!
