I’ve never read any Stephen King
10 Jul 2026 11:42 amBut people always say he’s such a good writer, so lately I’ve been thinking maybe I should…
…but I don’t feel like it any more.

The fact that there are already sexual abusers in Congress doesn’t mean it’s good to elect another one.
Calling for someone to drop out of a political race isn’t the same as participating in executing them.
There are translations of John 8:7 that don’t use a gendered pronoun.
I don’t judge people who still support Platner, but if they defend their support publicly, I hope they explain it better than this.

After Politico reported an allegation in July 2026 that Maine's former Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner had raped a woman, author Stephen King said, "Tell you what — if you knew the whole truth about everyone in the Senate and House of Reps, those chambers would be dead empty. Jesus said, 'Let him without sin cast the first stone.'"

And the bible also has some pretty messed up things about rape. One more reason I'm an atheist.

Some of us have been judging people for supporting Platner since like 5 horrible revelations before the (newest!) sexual-assault one. I know sunk-cost fallacy is hard to break out of, and I do want to applaud people who have the integrity to face the "oh no, I stayed on board with this way longer than I should've" realization! But for people who are still on board...? Nope.
(And most of my applause here is for the latest accuser who came forward. To see how many other accusations against this guy have been downplayed and deflected, to know that if they bare their own personal trauma for the judgment of the general public it might also come to absolutely nothing, and to think "but at least I have to try" anyway? I can't imagine how much courage that took.)
