My first love is history. It's what I majored in at college and it's the field I want to work in someday. I love the complexity of unraveling the reasons and motivations behind a historical event. History is always subjective, but lots of people don't realize that. It's very rarely about the facts, because the facts are rarely known. It's more about perspective. As the famous quote goes, "History was written by the winners." The winners don't necessarily understand or attempt to explain all aspects of a situation, especially not the true motivations and reasonings of the losing side. It's for exactly this reason that history is so fascinating to me...I love researching all sides and coming to my own conclusion.

My all-time favorite band is and will always be AFI. I found them during the StS era. I remember seeing the video for Silver and Cold and falling absolutely in love with them. Nothing AFI does is superficial or shallow. Their lyrics are meaningful in different ways for different people, but they're never artificial or contrived. They never compromise their identities as musicians for money or popularity. And they're always, always, always receptive and awesome to their fans. The Despair Faction, AFI's official fan club, is like one big, crazy dysfunctional family. None of my real life friends are AFI fans, so when I recently went to my first AFI concert, I went alone. The DF members I met in line were all so awesome that I didn't feel awkward at all. The other people I met that day make being an AFI fan even better. <3 I know it sounds like such a cliche, but whenever I've had a bad day or I'm depressed, I can put on an AFI song and feel better. AFI's music has helped me through some pretty tough times, and for that reason alone, I will always love them.
Some of my other favorite artists/bands are: Kill Hannah, Blaqk Audio, My Chemical Romance, Panic! at the Disco, Queen, fun., Mumford & Sons, Josh Groban, Walk the Moon...and so many more.
