What a Day!

Props... .

Today I attended the first day of Otafest, a local anime con, with the husband.  Fantastic con, but there was one little hiccup.

I'm legally blind.  I have a CNIB card.  I also use a white cane.

At all the conventions I've ever been to, all props (swords, staffs, guns, etc.) need to go through prop and/or weapons check, at which time they are marked or peacebonded, generally in a very visible manner, so that fellow con goers, as well as con staff and volunteers, know that the props are allowed in the event space.  Wheelchairs, crutches, and other disability-related items, however, do not generally undergo prop check.

Today, for the first time ever, my white cane did.

Now, there are some characters who usewhite canes.  Matt Merdock, from Dare Devil, is one.  Apparently, and more relevently in this case, so do certain Homestuck characters.  Therefore, my white cane had to have a yellow ribbon tied around the handle (which made it difficult to use correctly).

The prop check person who insisted upon this was nice, and I did not want to annoy him, so I allowed him to do so.  I can't help but feel rather offended, though, that my legitimate accessability device, and my legitimate need for said device, could be mistaken for a prop and playacting by any congoer who spots that telltale yellow ribbon.

Particularly when I noticed several Homestuck cosplayers wandering about without yellow ribbons on theirwhite canes.

Help Finding Nintendo DS Games

I don't know if anyone even reads this anymore, but I've a question if anyone does.

I'm trying to find a pair of Nintendo DS games, Moomin: The Great Autumn Party and The New Aventures of Moomin:  The Mysterious Howling, in English, with no luck.

Does anyone know where I might get them?  I'm looking for the physical games, with cases, artwork, etc., to add to my collection.  I'd be grateful for any assistance anyone could provide.

*sigh*

After a horrible sensory overload of a day at work, I come home, planning on having pizza rolls for dinner.  They are in the freezer, along with the rest of the $100 worth of groceries we got two nights ago.  The freezer that is currently warmer than the fridge.

Cue a call to the father-in-law.  Saturday afternoon a new fridge/freezer will be delivered and the old one hauled away.  Our $100 worth of groceries, the last money we had until my next paycheck, are already in the trash.  No pizza rolls for dinner.  Or anything else, for that matter, as we can't even make noodles without the milk and butter that were in the fridge.

Great end to the day.  Not.

Fic-Finding Help

Anyone around here any good at finding lost fanfics? I'm trying to find a Gundam Wing fic I read ages ago, and not having any luck. I remember bits of the plot, but nothing about the title or author.

It was a fic involving mainly Quatre, Trowa, and the Mauganacs, though I think the other pilots were involved, too. Mostly it took place on an asteroid, owned by the Mauganacs, I think. Quatre's dad dumped him alone on an asteroid, and I remember his feet were in really bad shape because of it. Somehow (maybe his dad made him go? I'm not sure), Quatre ended up on the Mauganacs' asteroid and lived with them, and the other pilots were there, too. The fic was definitely an alternate universe-type story.

I don't really remember anything else about the fic, other than it was really well-written. I'd love to read it again, if anyone happens to have any idea of what the fic was or where I might find it!

Ring for Sale

I've got a ring I'm trying to sell. I inherited it from my great grandmother, but I'm not one to wear such a ring, and I've no one to pass it onto, myself. Plus, I don't deny I could use whatever money I could get for the ring. It was apparently made in India sometime between 1920 and 1950. It's 14K gold, with seventeen sapphires and eight opals. It was appraised at $2,200 Canadian as of March 6th, 2014. Ideally I'd like to get at least $1,500 for it, but I've no idea if that's reasonable, or even how to go about selling said ring.

Assuming this works, I've included pictures below the cut, for anyone interested in seeing the ring itself.

Does anyone have any idea how I might go about selling this ring for a reasonable amount, or does anyone perhaps want the ring?

Thanks for any help anyone can offer!

Even the Doctor might find something like this rather handy...

...if someone hadn't purchased it already, that is! (Unless he's the one who bought it, of course.)

The Time-Traveler's Survival Kit (to which I'd post a link, but I'm not sure how to do that from my iPad) is my all-time favourite piece from Kythryne Aisling (kythryne on LJ) at Wyrding Studios. Once again, I can't HTML things the way I'd like to, but here's the address for her site, which I highly reccomend visiting if you're in the market, or mood, for high-quality objects of the shiny persuasion: http://www.wyrdingstudios.com.

Bordertown Returns!

After thirteen years of nonexistence, so to speak, Bordertown is back, in all its grimy, sparkly, fantastic glory.

I first traveled to Bordertown via Emma Bull's Finder, many years ago. I've yet to find my way back, but I'm hopeful that, now, I will be able to do so. Care to join me?
