Prisms are special items in World of Final Fantasy. They are cube-like objects that allow the player to imprism Mirages, which are added to the player's party and be brought to battle. Prisms that contain Mirages are called prismariums.
When the player encounters a new enemy in battle for the first time, they are automatically given a single empty prism that corresponds to that Mirage (mentioned by Tama and the Tip Jar to be Enna Kros's doing). When the player has the corresponding prism, a prism icon is shown next to the Mirage's name when using the Classic Menu. The corresponding prism can also be used to imprism other Mirages of the same Mirage class.
When a Mirage is imprismed, the prism used to capture it becomes a primsarium and is removed from the player's Prisms inventory. The player can access the Mirage's Mirage Board and may find a space that unlocks another empty prism so the player can imprism the same type of Mirage again.
Mechanical Mirages or Cogna require special types of cubes to imprism them called eldboxes. Eldboxes can imprism any kind of such Mirage, and can be bought at the Chocolatte Mart.
A list of empty prisms and eldboxes can be found in the Prisms sub-section in the Items menu. In a New Game+ file, only regular prisms carry over.

Etymology
In optics, a prism is a transparent optical element with flat, polished surfaces that refract light. The traditional geometrical shape is that of a triangular prism with a triangular base and rectangular sides, and in colloquial use "prism" usually refers to this type.
