question about a few colleges

Hi there. My name is Heather and I was looking at Masters programs in Television/Film with the goal to become involved working in television afterwards. I've not worked professionally in television or film before, though, so I don't exactly know what I'm looking for. Wicked naive, I know. I graduated with an English Literature BA three years ago from UMass Amherst and live just outside of Boston.

Anyway, I don't know, this comm is a little dead, but I thought I'd put it out there to see if anybody on LiveJournal had anything to say about any of these colleges. (I also asked on the schools' comms to see if anyone on LJ there had any comments.)

So I'm just gonna put a list I have of these programs and I guess, if you're familiar with them, were in them, knew someone in them, or went to the university, drop a comment and let me know what you thought?

Yeah, I know the biggies Columbia, NYU, USC and UCLA are distinctly lacking in my list, but you could probably guess why. ;-)

Boston University - Television Production MS

Syracuse University - Television/Radio/Film MA

Brooklyn College (CUNY) - Television Production MFA

American University - Film and Video MA

Academy of Art University - Multimedia Communications MA, Motion Pictures and Television MFA

Loyola Marymount University - Film and Television Production MFA

Thanks,

Not really a film student but...

Well, I am studying film, but my actual major is psychology. I'm going to the University of New Mexico, and after graduation I'll be studying film technology at a trade school here (then, hopefully I'll be working on stuff professionally soon after that).

As an introduction, I thought I'd post one of my recent projects. We had five days to complete the project, and ONE day with the camera (our school has very limited resources...blah). I directed this one, ran camera, and did props. Enjoy!

I'm currently working on the final for my technical film class which is a short film noir. Hopefully I'll have more to post soon

"Keep It"

I'm looking for a place to share short films with others, and I thought I'd check you guys out. I'm a film student at UC Santa Cruz, and I made this project last quarter for a beginning production class. I'd love to hear what you think! I'd especially love criticism!

Recommended filmmaking/film theory books?

Inspired by a recent post, I want to pose the question: what books do you think are essential reading for any film student? Do they cover all the very important basics, or are they just plain awesome?

I'll list some that have popped up in many of my past courses, as well as others that my film production/screenwriting friends recommend.

And here's a few that I just like in general:
