ANATOLE

[There is a lot of scraping and fumbling, and then somebody appears to tap the Forge very hard, as if they are under the impression that this is the best way to check if it's on.]

Ah, it is it record-? I think...

Hello whoever you are! This is Yuui D Flourite's answering thingie, and since I am not responding right now you will have to assume that I'm frightfully busy... well, or asleep. Or out. This thing is very small and easy to forget. Anyway, do leave a message, and I will get back to you as soon as I can!

Character name: Fai (Yuui) D Flourite.
Fandom: Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle
Timeline: After his and his companions' appearance in Kobato, post-series.
Character's age: He is mentioned to already have lived many times more than a character that is probably around 20-30, so it’s safe to say he’s a couple of hundred years old. I have previously played him in Scorched as being somewhere over 300.

Powers, skills, pets and equipment: Fai’s magic powers are not described in great detail, but he appears to be able to create protective spheres/shields, levitate, and attack with great magical force, and has at least at once point shown that he is able to conjure matter out of nothing. He can also detect magic, spells and other kinds of powers. The is described to be able to do "anything except healing magic". In The Sphere, obviously his ability to travel between dimensions would have to be nulled.
His magic is stated to be in the blue of his eyes, and if his eyes are compromised his magic might also be. However if his magic would be removed completely, he would die.
At this point in canon he also has vampire physiology, which allows him to be faster/stronger/more durable than a normal person and sprout razor-sharp claws at will. But since his magic has been restored to full strength, he no longer craves blood to survive.
He will arrive only with the clothes shown here. Sans talking plushie.

Canon history: http://tsubasa.wikia.com/wiki/Fai_D._Flourite (Background section and Story section.)

It should also be noted that I'm apping him with memories of his previous stay in Anatole, and the most notable thing that has happened there is that he reunited with his brother and thereby gained a lot more perspective on his own life and what he wants out of it. He also made some close connections with some people there - prominently Kotetsu Kaburagi and Severus Snape - and he got together with, and even engaged to, Kurogane.
In Anatole he will be known by his true name, Yuui.
Please notify me if I should use the application for a character from another game if you think that is more appropriate.

Personality: Fai appears at first to be very agreeable, cheerful, nonchalant, and quite often rather annoying. And in a way, that is exactly what he is. His surface persona as a very social, flamboyant, eccentric and more than a bit obnoxious creature is one he retains a large part of even after he no longer has to to keep up any pretenses. It is merely a part of his own personality which he exaggerates to cover up his ulterior motives as well as all the hurt that has been done to him through his life. The only really false part of his personality is the cold and sometimes downright cruel act he previously put up when called out on smiling even when he's unhappy or when someone veered a bit too close to the truth. Ironically enough, Fai was for a long while convinced that this part was the truest side of him.

Anyone who spends even a short amount of times with Fai will notice that despite his carefree demeanour, he is very perceptive, and very sensitive to the emotions of the people around him – as long as they do not pertain to him in person, where he seems to have a huge blind spot. He is highly intelligent and possesses a deep wisdom and understanding which he usually masks by acting as if he’s merely making wild guesses without substance.

Due to a very painful past fraught with loss and guilt, he has troubles letting people get too close. For a long while he has believed that he will always be the cause of unhappiness in others, resented himself for this, and disregarded the value of his own life. He only saw his life as a painful prolongation of an unwanted existence, and existed only for the purpose of bringing back his brother to life. While he at this point in canon has overcome a large part of this fear, and has come to see that he can do much good for the people around him - that in fact, he is not cursed, nor is he fundamentally a bad person - this kind of emotional damage is the sort that will linger for a long time. Thusly, while he is endlessly improved from how he was before, he is still largely unwilling to disclose anything too personal unless he has formed a strong bond with someone, and if he feels cornered he will still attempt to hide behind a mask and pretend to be a person of very little substance.

He is still overly aware of his own weaknesses - because of course he has those as well. Centuries of training himself in the art of lying and deflecting do not fade that easily, and he is very much a person who will treat the truth in a rather fast and loose fashion. And for all that he can be very compassionate, he can also be equally ruthless if something he cares about is at stake. He was, after all, prepared to destroy every known universe just so he could bring his twin back. And while he managed to let go eventually, it still is true that he will sacrifice virtually anything - and anyone - if that's what it takes to save those he loves. He will not be needlessly cruel or careless with his own life or the lives of others, but the fact remains that he will always value some more than others.

This partly stems from the fact that he has been very lonely for a large part of his life, and this has landed him with rather severe abandonment issues, having great troubles letting go and letting others take care of themselves. He can therefore be taken as overbearing and even possessive at times, although he has gotten better at allowing others their own space with time.

However, despite the damage that has been done to him, Fai is a very affectionate person, and seems to attach himself to others very strongly and care very deeply for those that manage to get under his skin. He also genuinely seems to be concerned with the troubles of strangers, and he will unselfishly lend them a hand without being too concerned with what kind of discomfort this might bring him. For a long while, Fai didn't see this kindness in himself, instead perceiving it as weakness and selfishness. While he has now come to terms with that he is not, in fact, the monster he used to see, he still believes himself to be nothing extraordinary. He views his large capacity for compassion as natural, and is still not quite aware how strong he's had to be to endure what has been done to him. He has however gained some insight in how very wrong he was about his own nature, and how arrogant it in a sense is to assume that the happiness or lack thereof of others hinges solely on yourself. This insight makes it easier for him to realize when he is needlessly putting himself down, and also to recognize the same patterns in others and gently dissuade them.

Why is Anatole for your character? Since he has been there before, it won't surprise him to end up in Anatole - if anything, it will make him tentatively happy, since the city managed to become something of the home he'd never really had the last time. Then again, he knows that things change in the city and that he might not know anyone there anymore - or the people he knows might not remember him.
At this point in canon, he's been to many different worlds and been through struggles which affected him deeply, so it will be relatively hard for the city to rattle him. Still, specific aspects of the Mist, such as the ability to make people relive memories and meet people from them, are always going to get to him, because there are parts of his past which will never fully heal. There's also the fact that the Mist has a tendency of occasionally making him lose control of his magic to deal with.

Network Post Sample:

Hello~. I remember you.

[This seems to be addressed to the Forge, as it is gently turned over and a glimpse of slim fingers, a ceiling and a slip of white fabric flashes by.]

Ah, and already on, I see. I guess that's the sort of thing that hasn't changed.

[The face that comes into view is calm, smiling serenely, but there is a certain note of apprehension, and above all, urgency in those blue eyes.]

Hello Anatole. It's been a little while since I was here last, but since time works differently in different dimensions, I suppose I can't say for sure just how long it's been here.

[He looks to the side, seemingly distracted for a moment, as if trying to gauge from his surroundings alone how much has changed.]

I do know people come and go all the time, but I would like to know... My brother, Fai... are you still here? [There is a definite flicker of something painful, something pleading in his eyes now.] I also would like to know if my fiance, Kurogane, is here, and... let's see, Kotetsu Kaburagi, Severus Snape and Martha Jones?

That is all, for now. [His face suddenly splits into a wide smile.] It's nice to be home.

Third Person Sample: It's just as he remembered it. The same slightly daunting yet beautiful architecture, reminding him just a bit of what he remembers from Valeria, a little of Spirit country and a lot of Lecourt. The bustling streets full of the natives, the way the breeziness of early summer filled the air with dazzling colors that even the Mist could not mute, the salty tang that swept through the city in a wave from the harbor every time there was a land-breeze... it was all so familiar to him, so precious.

Here and there he could see places where he remembered destruction, chaos, echoes of fear etched into the places like old paint, even though no mark remained on the city at all. It was far from a perfect place, but it was a place where he'd overcome the craving of blood that had threatened to tear him apart once; a place where he'd stood back-to-back with his man and fought whatever it could throw at him; a place which he'd ultimately defended from invasion with his brother strapped to his back and a fierce determination not to let anything touch his new home.

It was a fluid place, a nexus for hundreds of worlds where people passed and were gone, passed and were gone, like waves surging against the only firm place to stand. It was treacherous, and like rocks rolling under your feet it would suddenly and unexpectedly throw you out into the sea again, to tumble through the life you used to have, not remembering or knowing about that place where the impossible was possible.

It had become a home to him, and then he'd gone back, and he'd forgotten all about it. He'd played out his part, he'd done what he'd set out to do, and perhaps this was his reward? As some part of him continued on an endless journey in another place, this mere shard of his existence was allowed to find peace, at least for a while.

He would cherish it, for as long as it lasted.
