Three photographs: a man singing into a microphone, a woman playing the lap steel guitar, and three women in purple dresses singing into microphones.

Join us for an evening of uplifting voices and joyful noise as we celebrate the spirit of gospel.

Hailed as one of the “Queens of Sacred Steel,” we open the evening with Fran “Lady Strings” Grace on the steel guitar. An interlude with Kingdom Fellowship AME Church will highlight the roots of contemporary gospel with a set of traditional African American hymns. To close the evening, clap your hands and rejoice to the soul-shaking sounds of NEA National Heritage Fellows the Legendary Ingramettes.

The evening will also feature the big-screen premiere of a short documentary film on gospel singer/teacher and Maryland Heritage Award winner Shelley Ensor, produced by the Maryland State Arts Council with Wide Angle Youth Media, an arts education nonprofit in Baltimore.
