Life has been completely fucking awful so this is very belated but hi! I made two (TWO) vids for Festivids this year, both my assignment for my recipient and a treat for them, and had a complete blast. This year's personal theme was apparently: intense creepiness. Which let's be real is an ongoing theme with my vids but usually my festivids are on the perkier lighter side of fandom but NOT this year.

First, my assignment vid was for Ginger Snaps, aka the gory feminist teenage werewolf movies of my heart. They're campy and over the top and incredibly dark, and each movie highlights fascinatingly different structures that oppress young women (from high school power dynamics to how medical institutionalism treats addiction and patient agency to outright misogyny), and I love all of them for many reasons. The through-line for them all though is the relationship between Ginger and Brigette, sisters bound together by fate and love and having each others back against the world, while also being at odds because of aforementioned fate and power structures and how the world will turn you against each other. Also, yknow, werewolfism.

Anyway [personal profile] walkthegale VERY KINDLY gave me the opportunity to vid about alll these feelings, to Vienna Teng no less.

BUT ALSO, [personal profile] walkthegale prompted asking for a vid about The Innocents, and I COULD NOT RESIST. The Innocents is a fantastic black & white sixties horror suspense movie about a Victorian governess who moves to the countryside to take care of two unsettling children in vast, creepy mansion. Spoilers: it does not go well for anyone involved. It's based off the Henry James story Turn of the Screw, which I have not read, so the end really was a kicker to me personally.

As a child I half saw this movie on TV, and the image of Miss Jessel standing far off in the reeds severely haunted me ever since, which seemed like an excellent reason to finally rewatch it so I could make a treat! It was even creepier than I remembered! I definitely did not think an old movie in black and white with no violence or gore would have us vibrating and shrieking in fear but WE LEARNED BETTER. I loved the chance to revisit the movie and immerse myself in how god damn terrifying its ambiance and atmosphere is, and what a masterwork it is in tension and fear.

Also I made this in basically two incredibly-motivated evenings, and it's by far the fastest I've ever made a vid.

In the effort to actually add some content on here, I thought I'd post my most recent vid! I signed up for Fall 2018 Equinox, AKA my second round of Equinox, and it was EXCELLENT. This round's theme was "Time Travel & Alternate Realities", and the latter is a subject near and dear to my heart- I love multiverses and exploring how different choices lead to different futures, and also it's a genre that really leans into mindfuckery and unreality, which is definitely my jam.

I got the chance to make a vid for [personal profile] aurumcalendula about my Annihilation feels, which was one of my FAVORITE movies this year, and it... might actually be the only Annihilation vid that exists, at the moment? I dug around on AO3 and youtube trying to find any and had no luck. If so, I hope I can kickstart the vidding trend for this source because it's incredibly beautiful and incredibly disturbing, and there need to be a million more vids for it please.

Title: Bird on a Wire (AO3)

Music: Sarah Blasko
Length: 3:09
Summary: For the first time in your life, you're coming home.
Warning: Canon-typical body horror and graphic violence.
