WARNING: THIS ONE ACTUALLY HAS A CLIFFHANGER ZOH MAH GAWZ.

WARNING 2: THIS ONE HAS A SHAMEFULLY LONG ALEX-CENTRIC PART TO IT, SRRY.

this chapter was written while listening to britbrits' womanizer. idk y, that song is so catchy.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Lauren reviewed the photos on her camera screen. She hadnt looked at these photos since the day the project was assigned, and wow, was she feeling ridiculous.

Stupid

Helpless

Just, upset with herself but not so surprised.

Photos of her mother, alex, her friends, alex, the park, a black and white still of the amusement park - when she was there with alex, and oh look, alex.

But then, once the date in the corner of the camera screen read Oct.1, he dissapeared.

Lauren hadn't realized just what a staple he was in her life. But she couldnt just get rid of those photos, she wouldn't be able to make them up.

This is what she reminded herself everytime she quickly passed every photo with him in it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Alex stepped across the threshold of his apartment, having just played a small show. The rest of the band wanted to hang out together, maybe buy some candy at cvs or something, get a few beers.

But Alex said Nah,  and I'm not up for it and I've got a girlfriend waiting.

Everyone but Marshall rolled their eyes and he was dropped off at the apartment, albeit an hour and a half later than he said he should be home.

Then there she was, in all her bumble bee, high heeled, fishnet tight clad glory, sitting on the couch, cross legged.

"Oh..buh, wow."

"Hey there" Sadie got up from the couch and practically skipped to him. Alex held his breath, wondering if she could take being said no to.

To his relief all she said was "Let's watch some scary movies, I heard the grudge is on starz tonight".

They lied down on the bed together and the bright whites and electric blues of the screen flashed across their faces, hitting the walls around them.

Alex's eyes went out of focus, now he was just staring into blank space. Then he felt hands all over his chest, lips at his neck and he knew this was coming.

"Sadie, no" He pushed his hands down on her shoulders and her nose brushed his chin as she looked up, her chestnut eyes not listening to anything he had to say.

"Cmon, Alex" she said as she tried to get him to return the attention she was paying him, laying kisses all over his face. "Don't do this, don't you love me?"

Wow. Uh.

Alex knew she couldn't take the blow of the truth, not now at least. So he ignored the question and at least said

"I'm really tired"

That was incredibly middle aged wife of him to say.

Sadie was holding the lapels of his leather jacket in her hands now, when she looked down and pleaded the most blunt thing she'd  ever said, her voice teetering on baby whine."C'mon Alex, I wanna fuck"

He didn't reply this time, and stared at the wall across from him,

This was just too much.

This plain ass, simple as hell room had seen too much, heard too much.

This was where he and Lauren had a full blown screaming match once, and Alex was just yelling, so angry,  gesturing wildly with his hands - he was sure the neighbors could hear- while Lauren grasped at the roots of her hair, yelling right back.

She threw something that was in her hands (he couldn't remember what) right across the room, before shoving him weakly in the chest, beginning to lose the energy needed to keep screaming. And he stepped forward, closing the space between them, still gesturing as he yelled into her face, making her shut up quickly. And over all the yelling he could still hear that little gasp she took at the strength of his words as they hit her, the power of his voice. All she could do was step back, grab her bag and walk away.

Then the week after that he was alone in the bed and he constantly called her, even though he knew she wouldn't pick up.

This was where theyd spend the earliest mornings drinking coffee, and revealed their soft underbellies, their small precious secrets or wants, things that scared the shit out of them, sometimes without saying much.

This was where Lauren had once gnashed her teeth, waiting for him to call, having just heard of the latest van crash.

And this was when he remembered that night.  The night before it all came crashing, but he'd been the one who drove the ship into the ground.

It happened in his head as if an out of body experience, and oh, he hadn't noticed that look of desperation in her eyes back then.

But he could remember the way Lauren didnt say anything as he walked through the door, just clung to him.

And her hands where everywhere, so were his.  She was like fire within his own hands, but he kept getting the feeling she could be broken so easily. A china doll could shatter without so much as a tumble.

What he could remember the most  of that night was the way she seemed to let go of air whenever he said her name. It was as simple as that, and her head would bow, a glow about her face and blood rushed to her cheeks, her lips.

Lost in her dark hair, his face at her neck, he would whisper again and nails scratched and dug at his back.

He grinned to himself and pressed his cheek next to hers, his lips forming he-

"What did you just call me?"

Sadie pulled back from where she had been kissing him, her hair mussed up and bumble bee wings crushed on the floor.

The cloud that skimmed his eyes was gone and he sobered up, realizing what had happened.

Sweet move, asshole. You were making out with your girlfriend and hadn't even noticed.

Sadie's eyes hardened and her jaw set. She sucked in a breath

The words were solid and steady, but still loaded with anger.

"What.Did.You.Just.Call.Me?"

Alex put his hands in front of himself, palms open and said "I swear to God, Sadie I-"

She shoved herself off of the bed and pointed an accusatory finger at him "I cannot motherfuckin' believe you!" -hints of a southern drawl crept into her voice, traces of her childhood back in South Carolina - "Who's this goddamn Lauren?" She spat out the words

Alex didn't answer, just looked at her, he knew he would either lie or give it all away if he opened up his mouth and he didn't want any of those to happen.

"Was..was she the girl that you chased at the chinese place.." A pause "The same damn girl who came with all your things that day?" She seemed to curl r's more the more upset she became, another trace of her southern charm.

Alex couldn't look at her anymore, she could read into everything so fucking well.

Sadie just flattened her mouth into a lopsided line, gave a half nod and started throwing some of her clothes into her bag.

"I'll be back when you're ready to tell me all about this shit, hm?"

The door slammed shut.

Alex's head hit back against the pillow and he huffed.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Lauren sat on the ledge leading to her home's doorway, and ran her hand through her hair, eating the candy out of the bowl that sat in her lap.

She stretched one of those sour gummy worms between her teeth, savoring whatever that glittery stuff on them was.

She had been planning on going to a show that night, but decided to back out after seeing the line up.....

Lauren bit into a Butterfinger, and one of those king sized shits, not the mini ones the kids got.

The chocolate peanut butter delight was abandoned halfway through though. A couple of kids walked up to the porch and she quickly, though unwillingly, put a fistful a micro mini tiny gums and chocolates into their bright orange pumpkin buckets.

Then she noticed who came up behind the children and gingerly put down the bowl of candy and moved to get inside and shut the door.

His hand wrapped around her arm, and she was turned to face the beast.

"What's been going on, Lauren?" Brian's breath stunk, alcohol evident, maybe even puke.

Her nose crinkled, and she tried to squeeze her arm out of his huge hand. "Ugh, it's none of your business."

He inclined his head towards her and gave a half smug, mostly drunken half-grin. "Still fucking that-" he seemed to swallow a burp "pussy ass backstreet boy?"

She set her jaw again, wanting to just be rid of him "I said that's none of your business, Brian."

The smile dropped and his hand tightened again around her arm, and her breath quickened, the fog escaping her mouth coming out in spurts as he pushed her against the door.

His breath was unsteady, slow, the cold air leaving little clouds in front of Brian's mouth, sending the stench of his breath into her face.

Lauren pounded her fist against his burly chest, anger rose within her chest "Just what the fuck do you think you're doing." He pushed her shoulder back into the door again and she kicked blindly.

"Someone couldn't keep their end of the deal" He tapped her nose with a sausage-like finger "But I wasn't planning on keeping mine, promises were meant to be broken" Another crooked grin and Lauren froze stiff.

"What?"

---------------------

comments are very nice, and i like em soooo mucho.

DELEON LAUREN short.

Sadie wanted to move in. Alex wasn't completely against it...but it had been only about a month.

A month since their first date at the Chinese place, a month since he had to put his foot somewhere he shouldn't have, and fucked up Lauren again.

He reminded himself he and Lauren had only been dating a month and a week when she started staying at the apartment regularly.

Lauren wasn't one to make a big deal out of these kind of things. There wasn't a moving-in day, no huge boxes and hair tied back or a truck or any of that shit.

She had gradually made her place in the apartment, and started living there.

Sadie however, was talking about having her friend help with the boxes, and suggested that they wear sweatpants in case of dust and talking about which things would go into the closet and which things would be replaced.
---------------------------------
This made Mark more than a little uncomfortable. Needless to say, he missed Lauren and the days he could put salt into Alex's coffee without getting the dissaproving looks Sadie gave him.

When Lauren lived there, there was a curtain put up in the bedroom to separate Mark's side and Alex and lauren's, although Mark never really slept at the apartment much.

And if he did, he liked to stay in the living room, not wanting to intrude any privacy.

With Sadie, she wasn't considering a curtain or any of that shit, she was basically ousting Mark of his rightful place in the apartment that was essentially, his.

Mark had gotten to the apartment first, Mark helped Alex out with the rent, Mark should not be the one getting booted.

With Lauren, you would never know she was there if you weren't looking for her.

All her stuff was put away, or blended in with the backdrop.

Check the bills, and there was barely a jump in prices.

Sadie, was another story. Bright hot pink makeup bag to the side of the bathroom counter, lip gloss scattered next to the sink.

She had a whole little corner for her shoes.

Call him old-fashioned, but Mark liked the whole "family" feeling that came with roommates.

Lauren didn't break up the family feeling, she added to it, if anything.

Mark felt like a third wheel in his own home right now.

Now, Sadie wasn't a bitch. She was sweet, and friendly, and polite.

Boring
is what Mark called it. He couldn't see why Alex would move on from such an intense thing to a girl that was just another face in the crowd.

There are no more dirty jokes or pranks or comparisons between Avatar and Hey Arnold.

Just Alex and Sadie and that extra guy thrown in.
--------------------------------------------------

There was a small pile sitting on her bed. It was like Lauren just couldn't get him out of her fucking life once and for all.

A scarf, one pair of jeans, a watch, his favorite book, and more and more of his things that were left to linger in her room.

So now she had to make the whole trip back to that place.
--------------------------------------------------
She turned the knob and it gave only halfway. She shifted her weight and pushed her shoulder into it while wiggling around the doorknob.

The push finally moved the door, as it creaked open. The apartment was quiet, the rumble of the heater and the buzz of the refrigerator everywhere.

Perfect. Now she could just drop his stuff off on the bed, leave and never see him.

Wow, this place looked so familiar to her. Like she'd been on vacation for the longest time.

But there were differences. In fact, there were even cardboard boxes at the end of the living. Oh my god. They were living together.

She sucked in a breath and ignored anything that would remind her of the feelings she'd had that night last month.

Lauren made her way through the kitchen, and made a right turn in the living room to the bedroom. She used one hand to get the door out of her way and saw a blonde smoking a cigarette out of the window.

"Oh, uh, I'm sorry, I should"

The blonde looked over from the window, her face completely puzzled. "Who are you?"

Lauren never gets flustered, hardly ever stumbles over her words, barely gets the urge to turn the other way. The deer in headlights routine just wasn't her thing.

"Oh, buh, uh, I'm, I'm noone" Lauren mentally slapped herself "I'll just get -"

"Hey Sadie, why's everything so quiet." The blonde yelped and and threw the cigarette out the window.

Lauren shut her eyes as the voice came up behind her. She could not believe that she was getting that deer in headlights feeling even stronger.

Just as Lauren turned to make a run for it, she ran into a chest, and two hands grabbed her shoulders, keeping her steady.

"Lauren?"

Alex's voice was so confused, and so scared.

She looked up into his eyes and had to draw a breath.

"You never picked these things up from my house..I couldn't just leave them there." She shoved the bag into his chest and he looked surprised, his hand fliding over hers, making her skin tingle.

Lauren's hands flew away, and she was quick to make it to the front door, Alex one step behind as usual.

Lauren swung open the door, finding herself unable to breathe, so close to everything that was taken from her.

Alex's tone seemed like the boyfriend caught doing something he shouldn't, the guy who begged for forgiveness, and it made Lauren feel even worse.

"Lauren, I-"

She looked him in the face, ready to slam this door and run.

"Goodbye, Alex"

New Lauren deleon

Heartache. Lauren wasn't feeling it. NO, she had a stomach ache. She left the heartache up to the ones who she dumped/dumped her.

So, yeah, she wasn't suffering over the 7 months wasted. No, thinking about it just caused nausea, a slight irritability in the stomach. Disgust.

Yeah, that's it.

And maybe it had been about a month since the break-up. And maybe she just didn't give two shits anymore. It's just that she got a little sick everytime The Cab came up on shuffle.

Lauren wiggled her way into her jeans, and adjusted the flowing grey top. Mary was taking her out to Chinese today, and she was going to enjoy the noodles, and eat ice cream, and have fun

Just the bright city lights, her, and some kung pao chicken was all she would need. And Mary, of course.

Stepping out of the doorway, having already said her goodbyes, she sucked in some fresh, crisp October air.

And really, truly, she felt strong, like she didn't need anyone taking up her whole fucking life,  she could go and have fun with "me myself, and I".
-------------------------------------

Alex dipped some of the crispy thing into the soy sauce and smiled at the girl across from him.

Marshall said he'd known her for a while, and maybe Alex would end up hitting it off.

Her hair was cut short and sleek beneath her chin, a warm honey tone. Her skin was just at golden, evenly tanned and her eyes were chestnut. She seemed to glow against the background of paper lanterns.

She was really, a sweet girl. Alex was thinking that maybe he could see himself falling in love with her.

The small "cling" of the restaurant door, was distant, in the back of his mind, because right now, Alex was in a deep convo about this and that and "Oh really? Cool".

Then something broke into his head. He couldn't place it at first, because otherwise it would have seemed familiar, but it was out of place right now.

A slow, raspy chuckle, slightly behind him to the left.

Oh dear God.

The laughter slowed down and faded into talking, as Lauren's voice floated over his head and she was seated across from his table at the other side of the room. Another head bobbed up across from her, and from the corner of his eye he recognized the girl as Mary.

Alex wanted to look, wanted to just soak it all in. Was she looking lonely? A mess, a complete weeping wreck?

Was she seeing someone?

Had he kept his end of the deal?

Alex's date, Sadie, picked up the menu, and fell into a comfortable silence, so he took this chance to glance to his left.

Her hands and neck were smooth, her arms completely clear, the skin on her stretched evenly across the muscle, and without a single blemish.

Alex almost let out a sigh.

Alex averted his eyes from across the room, and looked at his own menu. Sadie offered up kung pao chicken, but Alex thought maybe the mushu would be tastier.

They kept talking, and Alex had to admit to himself that he was actually enjoying this, that he liked this girl, but the rich sound of laughter intruded his mind, and he started slipping away from the chinese place in manhattan.

Chestnut eyes pulled him back in and soon their voices became hushed as Alex leaned forward and he could see her smile almost nervously, before she tilted her head and their lips brushed, skin connecting and her lips tasted of vanilla.

He heard a small, sharp intake. An "oh" to his left, hardly significant. Oh, fuck.

Sadie pulled back, and she grinned at him, saying something about needing to freshen up, and she'd be right back.

Seeing Sadie's back make it's way towards the bathroom, he looked quickly to see Mary apologizing to the restaurant hostess, and pushing open the door, Lauren following.

Alex probably shouldn't have, seeing that he'd done enough already, but he still got up from his seat and followed the trail out the door, catching up with Lauren.
--------------------------------------------

The doors were a rich dark color, and paper lanterns could be seen through the opened up windows, and of course the scent of the food was enough to draw anyone in.

The hostess by the door showed them to a small table to the side of the restaurant, right underneath yellow and red paper lanterns that glowed and cascaded across the table.

Lauren skimmed the menu and quickly became bored, already knowing what she wanted to eat. She placed her chin into the palm of hand, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings.

Happy families, cute couples, tourists. She backtracked.

Cute couple.

Brown hair, and shut eyes and and that same smile.

Her breath escaped, sharp through her lips, and "Oh"

Oh, the motherfucking bitch that is her life.

Mary was looking in the same direction as Lauren and grabbed her friend's wrist.

"Cmon, let's go" A soft smile sent her way, and Lauren was pulled out of her seat and to the doorway.

WIthin a matter of seconds, her hair was tugged behind her by the wind and the air was razor sharp against her once warm face.

A hand was wrapped around her forearm, and she turned around,  not wanted to look him in the face.

"Lauren"

Lauren moved a little in place, boucning up and down slightly on her back foot, looking at the sidewalk and then at him.

"What do you want?"

He was so close, a mere 3 inches or so, and the heat radiated off his skin, right onto hers.

"What that was.. back there." A Pause "She's not my girlfriend, I mean, I'm not dating her"

She was quick to respond, letting out a "pfft" "Yeah I mack with all of my friends, too"

He seemed to be searching for the right words, his jaw set, and Lauren could almost imagine the sweel on his jaw from that night.

"Laur-"

"Is she worth staying for?"

She couldn't help it. Lauren needed to know, if maybe she was just a victim of his frequent intense, relatively short relationships.

If this other girl was the next victim.

Or maybe, he really didn't think that Lauren was worth it, and the blonde is.

She was truly hoping that it was the first, because then, she could really move on.

Alex hesitated. What was he supposed to say, knowing what he knew?

Lauren took his silence as an answer, and her eyes shined in the glow of the paper lanterns. SHe looked past Alex's head, behind him.

Sadie stood in the glow of the doorway, seeming confused, wondering who the hell Alex was talking to.

Lauren's lips parted slightly and her shimmering eyes flickered from Sadie, to Alex for a moment and she barely said "I guess I should leave you two alone"

She turned then, and walked with Mary into the dark of the city, away from any more fucking pain she could recieve.

Lauren/Deleon Short one, while I get this plot progressing

Shame.

ShameShameShame

Alex was feeling pretty ashamed right now.

Why you may ask? Because Alex mustered up enough courage or whatever to face what he was going to do, what he did.

And now, he had that pull right under his ribcage, that pretty much irresistable feeling that had his skin itching.

And he shouldn't be feeling this because HE was the one who broke it off. He was the one who walked away and shoved Lauren in the other direction.

No, I do not want to see her.

No, I do not want to lie next to her.

No, I do not have the urge to take it all back, nor am I hoping that I will be forgiven and can rest my head by hers.

Maybe he could convince himself of these things.

Still, it would probably be best if he waited for the air to drag away any trace of Lauren before staying around the apartment.

Ian wouldn't mind bunking.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Lauren was weak.

And she had the stains to prove for it.

When she walked out the doorway, the grooves of cement in the sidewalk were stained.

Her shirt was stained, her palms and shirt marked.

She would never figure out how to get rid of these ugly marks, beginning at the edge of her eyes and dropping to the curve of her cheeks.

No one else would notice, but she would always know.

She cried over Alex fucking Deleon.

As soon as Lauren had begun to pull her clothing out of the dresser, snatch her crap from the bathroom counter, she made sure to wipe her nose and just stop.

Freeze.

Halt.

Cut it out.

Because, no, a few dozen tears were more than enough, and if she wasn't worth staying with, he wasn't worth an ounce of the water and salt.

So she stopped. But she had already started, and now she could never hide it from herself. She cried over this asshole.

Lauren got her ass to the tra in station, and contemplated the best way to erase him.

Just grab the eraser of death and rub him out. Not a single mark left.

She settled for deleting him off her cell contacts.

Lauren tried to kick the feeling that everyone else could see those disgusting streaks all over her. That they were all staring and wondering who the fuck died.
----------------------------------------------

Alex was surprised that the band didn't shrug off the break-up. Honestly? It would have made him feel better if they did.

But noooo. This relationship was significant. Everyone was genuinely surprised!

He kind of wished he was more inclined towards flings, quickies, "fun with the fans" -  a la Brendon Urie.

Then maybe nobody would have given half a shit over the fact that he'd broken up with Lauren.

Of course, the band was smart enough not to ask any "why"s or state remarks such as "It's okay, she was a bitch/slut/bimbo"

Alex kind of wished they did, so he could at least have the lies comfort him.

--------------------------------------------
After isolating herself a bit further and further, wondering why she was being such a pussy, she finally got herself out of bed and to a party.

Forest green orbs dug into her, and the sandiest dirty blonde topped his head. His voice was raspy, and her breath was heavy.

Both of them had a few cups of the punch.

His mouth was at her neck and her tummy began to get rocky.

His hands were rough and grabbing her in the middle of the back, pushing down her shoulder.

The acid skimmed the top of her stomach as she let out an uncomfortable "ungh"

This guy must have thought it was an "unf" of pleasure or some shit because now he was chewing her lips off.

She felt her tummy constrict and her face got exceedingly hot.

His arm wrapped around her back and latching to the side of her hip. No no no no no!

It was like his mouth dripped with oil, and she couldn't fucking take it.

She'd gotten way too accustomed to hands resting on her hips, and a mouth smiling into hers or white sheets and turqoise eyes.

Now her throat slid with grease as the bile slipped its way up and she had to push herself away.

Ceramic tiles and a pristine white bowl greeted her, while she poured out every last drop of sickness and anger and ridiculous angst right down the drain.

Lauren had stepped right into the beginnings of her withdrawal.

LAUREN DELEON - THE ONE YOUVE BEEN WAITIN' FOR

The sun hit her shut eyes, and as she came out of the blurry sleep, her body felt strange.

Eveything beneath her was flat. There wasn't a hand on the small of her back, an arm beneath her, a knee right above her own or  a nose pressed into her neck.

She sat up in the bed, almost feeling disoriented, and she looked around the room, before quickly wrapping herself in the sheets, noticing the pulled away curtains.

Dark hair was matted to her forehead and the warmth from outside carressed her shoulder, down her spine.

If she closed her eyes, she could even fainlty hear the way he'd said her name. She opened them and was once again faced with the mess of the room, and the note on the dresser.

Lauren
Went to hang out with the guys -  and to practice a little too.

This REALLY shouldn't have bothered her at all.

It was just that he'd started practicing and "hanging out" with the guys increasingly.

It was nearing a regular 4 to 5 times a week.

-------------------------------------------

After slipping in some of Mark's stash into her coca-cola, she stared holes into holes into holes into herself in the mirror.

Usually the heat in the water lasted a full 3 minutes, so she didn't bother with it.

The shower took the feeling of everything, it was so cold. From the sweat to the taste of blood just beneath the skin on her chapped lips.

Even the flavor of the rum and coke.

So she had herself another glass.

------------------------------------------

Alex was just sitting in a chair, staring at his cellphone, flipping through the texts, missed calls.

2 missed from Lauren. He had watched the phone shake and flash for those few second before shoving it somewhere where he wouldn't notice. He didn't think he would pick up if she called again either. He wasn't quite ready to face what was happening, what he was doing.

Johnson was absentmindedly tapping on his drums, knocking at the bass, hitting the snare. Ian layed, stretched across the couch and played a song softly and Marshall sighed from his seat near the keyboard. Cash wasn't even trying to act like they were doing anything, texting away from his sidekick, probably with his girlfriend.

Marshall piped up.

"Alex we're not doing anything, we've already practised hundreds of times, and I don't think Cash can even keep up his humor at this"

Cash scowled, glancing from his sidekick, before going back to staring at the screen.

Johnson agreed. "Yeah man, why are we even here?"

Ian stopped his wild plucking, looking at Alex expectantly as well.

Alex opened his mouth then shut it, before opening it again, looking like a fish. He bit his lip and as he was about to resume his "fish out of water" act, his phone rang, flashing and vibrating. WIthout even glancing at the screen, Alex said "I gotta take this"

He was swift, and left to the back room, and answered the phone, glad for the excuse to not answer his band's questions.

"Hello?" It wasn't Lauren. A guy actually, with a warm tone, but his voice gave Alex the feeling that he was worried.

"Yes?"

"Is this Alex Deleon? - Oh god, I really don't want to do this" A deeper, slightly gruffer voice in the background said "I swear to God, Dan, if you don't-"

"Uhm, this is, this is Dan, I know Lauren and I need to tell you something"
-------------------------------------------------

Alex shut the door behind himself, and the keys landed on the counter with a jingle.

"Yeah mom, I will." Her voice was slow, soft. Tired. "Sure, it's okay. Goober's? Okay, strawberry then"

The click of the phone, and the sky was turning the lightest shade of grey through the window.

She noticed him coming through the tiny kitchen and she placed a soft smile on her face.

He made his way towards her spot on the couch, where her camera, books, notes and laptop spread out on the floor next to her.

"Hey" She looked up at him He turned at an angle to sit next to her. She never gave it much thought when they shared their small "hello" kisses. Pecks, chicken kisses, whatever.

But his lips barely brushed on hers, and he sat ram-rod straight on the couch, the polar opposite of her relaxed cat-curl.

"What's wrong?" She watched his profile. Did he have a fight with someone in the band?

A murmur rumbled from deep in his stomach and they spat out through his lips "I think we should really talk"

She tried not to be taken aback, and that sad, dark, satirical part of her laughed, thinking of all those pop culture references that said these were the fatal words to a relationship.

"Does this-"

He cut her off, "Nevermind, ugh, I'm, I'm just gonna go out." He shrugged the coat back on and opened the door.

"What?" Her tone was completely fogged. Just what  was he doing? First he chased her like she was Anne fucking Boleyn and now she's not even being acknowledged.

He didn't turn, and he walked down the steps, only a flight away from the building door. She was three steps behind.

He reached the sidewalk, but Lauren was quick to put her hand on his shoulder. The wind pulled and threw her hair into small ruffles.

"Tell me what's going on, right now." Lauren's voice demanding, but her eyes showed she was not ready.

Her brow furrowed, and she could sense him slipping straight through

Alex seemed confronted with her demand, and he ran his hand into the roots of his hair. The hand dragged away and Alex's eyes shifted from her, to the sidewalk, to right past her ear, and back to her again.

"I can't keep seeing you. I just...I can't be with you"

He was out of her hands now.

Alex huffed, some sort of a sigh, and she could feel the prickles right behind the corners of her eyes.

She wouldn't cry just because of him.

Her face was getting oven hot now, and she tried to keep herself from going any further.

"This..us, we couldn't possibly.." he continued.

Her head shot up, and he started to walk off.

"Look at me! Don't say that," Her hands enveloped his.

He quickly snatched them away and in frustration she brought her hands to his face.

"Don't ever say that..please Alex, I need you. I can't think if you're not here..I..." Her voice cracked and she pressed her forehead to his, as the cold air gave her goosebumps.

ALex's eyes studied her face closely, and he should have known just how much damage this was going to cause.

Lauren took in a breath, her eyes shaded by the hair above her brows.

"Just..why?"

He bit his lip, and inside, in a place even Lauren couldn't reach, he searched for the best answer.

"I.. I need to follow my dreams."

Oh  So was that what this was about?

"This is something I've wanted more than anything and not any girl, not even you are worth stopping me for."

The electric current cracked right through her.

Alex gave her a deep look into her eyes, his blue ones hiding the crumbling soul beneath.

With one small tender kiss to her lips, savoring her taste on him again, he whispered the killing words.

"Goodbye, Lauren"

He turned and got lost within the bubbling crowds.

The precious crystals finally dripped off the curve of her cheek, dropping at the angle of her chin, and pooling into a dozen little diamonds on the sidewalk.
------------
She was packed and gone in an hour.
---------------
When he got back to the apartment, there was only the trace of her scent.

They say the first hit is the hardest.

And that's what it looked like when Alex took that jab to the gut. Lauren was immediately on her feet again, but everything happened so quickly.

Alex stood, and made a swipe at Brian's face with his fist, before kneeing him in the stomach, and the crowd roared.

Holy mother of fuckity fucking shit. Those were police sirens coming into the background.

Brian unfolded himself and in a split second he bashed his hand into the side of Alex's face, then shoved him back and there was the sickest -crack- sound as the back of Alex's neck hit the edge of the couch.

"Oh my God" Lauren bent down and began to press her fingertips along his jaw line, not even wanting to think what damage that small *crack* represented.

Alex tried to get up, and upon stretchin his neck a bit, loudly exclaimed "Oh, Fuck"

Brian grunted, and soon the sound of the police siren's wail was right in front of the house.

A small group of officers were quickly inside the doorway, and a people began to run, hide the booze, put their clothes on.

Brian was gone in a flash, without a trace. Lauren's colorful vocabulary was revealed as she muttered under her breath, carefully putting her hand behind Alex's neck.

He seemed to have a way with words, too.

Red cups rolled around on the floor, soaking the bright vodka into the hems of her jeans, the speakers were screeching with feedback and two officers were soon in front of her, where Alex moaned out some pretty powerful words, trying his best not to move his neck.

"We're goan'uh have to ask you two, t-uh come with us." A man, tall and pretty muscular with a growing mustache stood before them.

The portly woman next to him looked at the pair with a critical eye.

Lauren usually had the common sense to hold her tongue, or to be more polite, but

"Christ! Can't you see that he's in pain? I'm not going anywhere until somebody takes care of him"

The woman sighed in exasperation. These teens always made her job so much more difficult. Rolling her eyes, she snatched the walkie talkie from her belt and spoke into it.

"Can we have Judy come inside? Judy. Through the door by the couch. We've got an injured juvenile."

Lauren faced away from the cops, and ran her fingertips along the place on Alex's jaw where he was hit.

"Fuck. It's already getting swollen."

Alex let out a half chuckle. A small "hah". Lauren's brow furrowed.

A small woman appeared in front of Alex. Her dark hair was pulled back into a slick bun, and she wasted no time. She knelt down quickly, and brushed away Lauren's hand from Alex's face, as if dismissing her.

Her gloved hands traced right under Alex's jaw, and pressed beneath his chin. They moved across both sides of his face and she began pressing two fingers at the sides of his jaw, and as she reached the left hinge of his jaw, Alex nearly jumped.

He hissed and groaned. "Motherf-" He bit his lip.

"He hit the back of his neck too." Lauren said, keeping her eyes glued to the nasty swell, already changing shades. The woman barely glanced at her and nodded.

"Let's take this kid out to the van." The two officers nodded and leaned over Alex, hooking their hands under his shoulders.
--------------------------------------------------------------

They were in the back of a large police van, Alex sitting with his legs hanging off the side of the back of the van, Lauren sat to his left, on her knees.

They just sat there, waiting for "Judy" to come back with her equipment. Alex layed back, into the van and stared at the metallic ceiling.

Wow, this night was a total disaster.

Lauren leaned over Alex, not saying anthing, just looking at him. He wouldn't meet her eyes.

"Who was that guy?" He finally asked, the words ringing through the van and just lingering there.

But what was Lauren supposed to say? My ex-friend who's an asshole and really wishes he could get into my pants, and almost did once..

She looked away from him then, and stared at the wall across from herself.

"He's just some guy, and he doesn't matter okay?"

He didn't answer. What bothered him even more than the thoughts that some guy had just claimed Lauren as "his girl", was the way she looked so scared around him.

Judy and some other paramedic showed up then, and she set a small white plastic case in the van, clicking it open neatly and taking out a small flashlight, a small rubber hammer, and a breathalizer along with other things.

It was obvious this other paramedic was a student, watching studiously as Judy tapped the hammer against Alex's knee.

Judy didn't look up from her work and said "Make sure the girl's okay as well"

This guy placed a finger in front of Lauren's face and asked her to follow it.  He checked her reflexes, and the put his fingers on her jugular. He looked at his watch on his wrist, as if he was actually counting her pulse. Lauren grew impatient.

"Can you please stop looking down my shirt?"
------------------------------------------------------------------

Lauren had whipped out her camera as they took the ride in the police car to her house. Wow this was going to be an interesting project.

The picture was perfect too. You could see the grate that separated her from the police and out the window the flash of police lights stood frozen within her photo.

She'd given the cops a false address, and she was dropped off a block from her house. Alex stepped out with her.

"Pretty amazing night huh?" she remarked.

"uh.. Well I can say I'm never going to forget it."

She laughed at this, and as their noses touched the cop called "That can wait! Come on lover boy, let's get you home"
---------------------------------------------------------------

It was all going great. Everything was just fanfuckingtastic! Completely amazing until he got that fucking phone call.

Alex had no clue how Brian got his phone number, and he wondered just how much Brian did know.

"Look you'd better watch yourself"

That was all he said and all he had to say. Alex didn't let out a peep to Lauren but she wasn't an idiot.

He was acting strange, distancing himself from her. And the more he did that, the harder she fought to be around him.

She knew that saying, "Easy come, Easy go".

So when he showed up late one night, she didn't even bother with chit chat. All Lauren needed was to make sure that she didn't fuck this one up, and she wanted him to stay.
-------------------------

They stayed up afterwards, and Lauren was leaning across Alex's back, drawing little designs into him with her fingers. The moonlight shamelessly covered them everywhere the sheets didn't, and their skin shined with sweat.

Their toes were curled up at the end of the bed, peeking out beyond the white blanket.

She muttered something, and the words sank into his head though he was sure he's heard it so many times before.

Neither of them said it much, because when you say something a lot, it loses it's meaning. And they wanted this small tumble of consonants and vowels to really mean something.

Her hair was spread around across her back, falling off her shoulders and tickling him, as if urging Alex to respond.

She took in a breath, sucking in the air that twinkled with dust.

"I love you too, Lauren"

It had been such a long time since he'd said that.

BRAND SPANKIN NEW DELEON LAUREN

ERGH HAD TO REPOST THIS!!!
PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: THE EXCERPT FROM THE ORIGINAL FIC THAT I HAD POSTED SOOO LONG AGO WILL BE COMING UP SOON IN A FEW CHAPS:

http://community.livejournal.com/f…

Lauren pulled her car up into the public parking lot near to "Bean There". There was an urgency in her friends voice that kept her from protesting, and going back home instead. She slipped on her favorite pair of nearly-clear sunglasses, and put her hoodie back on, more necessary than just fashionable in the late September air.

Seeing the silver sign that hung above the coffee shop, she made the left turn and pushed open the glass door.

Lauren scanned the room, looking for her friend. The place wasn't even half full, and most of them were just employees, who were too short, too tall, too girly, to be Mary.

What was it that she needed so much, and she couldn't even show up?

Lauren rescanned the room.

The lightest blue-green irisis caught her eyes and she almost didn't let out that last breath.

She wasn't one to gush, but it still took every ounce of her strength to walk over to the bookshelves and act calmly.

"Hi" A grin.

"..Hi" her voice came out small, it was only a whisper.

Mary totally deserved the Nobel Prize for greatest friend.

Silence enveloped them, shielding them from the chit chatter of everyone else. One thing dampered Lauren's mind, and she blurted

"How long until you go back?" Her fingertips danced across the skin on his hand, and her toes met his where they stood to the side of the shop.

Lauren had the biggest urge to pull away from him, remembering the sharp feeling of having to let him go in the morning.

"Hmmm" Alex tilted his head back, as if thinking. Lauren held her breath then, ready to leave and make sure she didn't see him again until the very end of tour.

"Only for the next four months."

She didn't even think. "What?"

He leaned across the table and put his lips right next to her ear "Lemme tell you a little secret. ..Tour ended 2 days ago"

"oh" That little thought was knocked out of her with his words. How? It seemed like just yesterday he'd left, the pain was just as sharp. But, the time had stretched, and she wasn't one to check her calendar all the time.

"Oh" it came again, and his smile was just so contagious. She placed her head into the crook of his neck then, and she'd almost forgotten the way he fit around her.

But it all came back when he kissed her, and she knew what it was like to be  a druggie and getting that long missed hit.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They were driving out of the parking lot, Alex at the wheel. Honestly, Lauren felt a little scared. After all those van crashes?

As he drove, she thumbed through her book pages, and looked through her assignments.

At the red light, she quickly reached into the back seat and fished out her camera. He didn't notice, talking about that one time when he and Ian played that prank on Marshall and then and then and hahahaha.

Lauren brushed the hair out of her eyes and went along with it, asking a question and laughing with him. In the split second when he turned to look at her she silently snapped a photo.

"Did you just take a picture of me?"

She looked at the photo on the screen. "Yeah" she replied, putting away the camera "Class project"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Even though Lauren's family knew enough about the music scene and a bit about Alex, he didn't know anything at all about life in the town she lived. He was almost always in the city. (which got her thinking - "What about living home in Las Vegas?" He said he didn't like his apartment there, but she doubted it..) He had visited her there a few times, but really, the city was the backdrop for their relationship.

And what better way to get him familiar than with a party?

Right now, she was once again, in the apartment with him, and Mark was actually around for once. She put in her small bead studs into her ears and called to Alex.

"Can you just change out of your pyjamas?"

"No"

Lauren huffed. "Then I guess I'll just have to take Mark. I mean, at least he get's himself dressed before 6 o fucking clock!" She emphasized the last part. Mark snickered.

"You wouldn't" Came from the bedroom. It was a steady, evenly toned statement.

"You're right" Lauren called, sitting on the couch next to Mark "I'd actually just go by myself. There are cute guys in my town too."

The grumble was unmistakable and the bedroom door opened, as Alex dragged himself across the living room to the bathroom.

As the door shut behind him, Lauren turned to Mark "How did you know that would work?"
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The house was being completely trashed, and Lauren almost felt sorry for the kid who threw the party. All the doors and windows were opened, so Lauren had her hoodie on and the punch wasn't even subtly spiked, Just straight up vodka mixed with crystal light.

Deleon was on the couch, one arm around Lauren's waist, and she couldn't keep the grin off her face.

The music was blasting, there was a trampoline in the backyard and Alex had actually gotten off his ass to get here, and making friends.

Her ears picked up the electric guitar streaming from the speakers and the hollering out of the kitchen. A guy walked out of there, covered in suds and stripped to his boxers.

The girl who had thrown the party, seemingly a high schooler ran up to the guy in a panic.

"Uh, the dishwasher isn't working right"

Lauren smiled and before taking another sip out  of her red plastic cup, slipped out of Alex's grasp. He glanced towards her and she replied

"I'll be right back" He nodded, and got back to the conversation he was in.

She began to climb the elaborate set of stairs, and pushed open a few doors, looking for the bathroom. One person had written hastily "Occupado!" on the door, so she wandered down the hallway, looking for a big bedroom, making it more likely to have a bathroom.

Jackpot!

She went through the room and pushed open the white door to the bathroom.

A couple were slipping around in the tub, and somebody was passed out next to the toilet.

Guess she would just have to hold it. She pushed her way past the small string of people in the hallway and yelling could be heard from the top of the stairs. It sounded a lot like..

Oh Fuck.
Brian.

She skimmed the steps, and made it to the couch, where some party goers were beginning to from a circle.

The guy Alex had made friends with was yelling at Brian, and Alex seemed to be arguing with him too.

"Just fuck off!" the guy yelled.

"I'll fucking crush your fag asses into the wall!" Brian screamed. The look on the hostess' face clearly read "ohshit.ohshit.ohshit."

Alex put a hand on ''the guy'' and said to Brian "Look man, just back off. Don't start shit"

Lauren could already imagine where this was going, and the sound of police sirens were already in her head.
She shoved through the thickening crowd and went right next to Alex's arm. "C'mon, let's just go."

Brian hadn't even noticed her presence until Alex said "Laur, it's ok". He slipped his arm back into its mold in her waist.

Brian's eyes dragged from the arm on her waist, to Alex's face, to Lauren's.

"You sick fuck!" He put his ape-like hands at Alex's shoulders and pushed him backwards.

"What the fuck?!"

"Who the hell do you think you are, comin to this party with my girl?"

"What?" Now Alex's voice had a completely confused tone to it, not even agitated anymore.

Brian grabbed Lauren's thin wrist in his giant fist, and Alex moved forward menacingly.

Lauren had enough.

"Brian!" She pushed against his gorilla chest with her hands "I am not your girlfriend! Just leave me the fuck alone!"

"Let her go!" Alex's voice was threatening, despite the fact he had such a lanky figure, especially compared to Brian. The way Alex saw it, they were the same height, and that evened things out.

His grip on her wrist tightened and Lauren shrieked out of anger.

"I remember you used to scream a lot too when you were with me.." Brian muttered smugly.

Lauren stomped her foot right into Brian's, making sure it was squeezed flat between the palm of her foot and the floor.

He grunted and threw her off him, sending her flying square into Alex's chest. The crowd was deafening with rooting, screams, and the panicked shrieking of the hostess.

Alex held Lauren by the shoulders, and placed her on the couch before turning quickly.

His fist lurched forward towards Brian's jaw, and she watched with wide eyes as Brian's meaty fist hooked, going for Alex's stomach.

The bass, the drums, the gutiar screeched through her mind, and she had the biggest headache while her brain tried to process everything.

They say the first hit is the hardest.
