The Fire Within is a popular Kai/original character-focused fic in the Ninjago fandom by measuremesky. It also follows Cole and his relationship with an original character named Brooke. Many works of recursive fanfiction have been made in the same universe as The Fire Within by The Mayor of Ninjago City.
The Fire Within has two sequels/spin-offs: A Degree in Danger, Archived version and A Twist of Fate, Archived version. The latter focuses on a Lloyd/original character ship, pairing him with a character named Alison.

Kai is having difficulty letting go of his past with Skylor-the decision to write to her is still up in the air. But during his embarrassing trip to the grocery store, Kai meets another girl, who makes his life slightly more complicated. Takes place after season 4.
A Degree in Danger
When the ninja discover a potential threat traced from within the depths of Ninjago City, they find that it is something far more sinister than they could have imagined, and a group of college students are responsible. The team must go undercover to stop the impending threat, and to have a couple crazy college experiences on the way. Rated T for suggestive themes.
A Twist of Fate
With everyone on the Bounty in a relationship but him, Lloyd believes there's no one out there for him. However, a twist of fate at Doomsday Comix causes him to change his mind. Universe surrounds my previous story, The Fire Within, a couple years later. Rating subject to change as story progresses.
