Nya is a main character in the LEGO Ninjago series. She debuted in the first season of Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu, which premiered in December 2011. She also appears in Ninjago: Dragons Rising, which premiered in June 2023.

Nya initially assisted the four main 'Spinjitzu' ninja in the original series, consisting of Cole, Jay, her brother Kai and Zane, as 'Samurai X' before becoming a ninja herself in season five. She also is allies with Lloyd Garmadon, who joined the ninja in season one as the fabled 'Green Ninja.'

Her relationship with Jay, Jay Walker/Nya, was canonical beginning in the pilot episodes of the series and was canonical until Dragons Rising, when Jay received complete amnesia. The ship, commonly known as Jaya, is the most popular in the entire fandom.

She is the Elemental Master of Water, with the ability to generate and manipulate water, as well as related abilities such as communicating with sea life. Nya was the last ninja to join the team, and also the only girl, leading to a rocky start for her; however, she quickly solidified her place on the team as a fierce fighter and occasional voice of reason.

  • Ethnicity: Nya's most common ethnicity headcanon is East Asian. Specifically, Japanese and Chinese are popular, with her wearing a kimono pre-2017 redesign and 'samurai' associations making Japanese have a strong canon backing. Southeast Asian is also common, such as Filipino, Vietnamese and Indonesian. Her dress pre-2017 redesign is also form-fitting enough to also resemble a qipao. Although Kai is often headcanoned as Hispanic as well, Nya rarely is.
  • Body Type: Varies greatly depending on the headcanon. While sometimes she's described as the shortest ninja, sometimes she's as tall as the others or taller. Whether or not she has visible muscle also depends.
  • Eye Color: Brown is the most popular. Blue is also common due to her deep connection with the ocean.
  • Age: Common fanon is that she was 13-17 in the first season of the series, younger than the rest of the ninja, estimated to be around 14-19. She's likely to be the youngest aside from Lloyd in fanworks due to her canonically being younger than Kai.
  • Fanworks made in her pre-2017 design in mind may still include her mole she obtained in the redesign.

  • RGB siblings: Although more of a thing for Kai and Lloyd, the 'RGB Siblings' add Lloyd to the existing Kai and Nya sibling dynamic. Lloyd & Nya works often have them consider each other brother and sister.
  • Protective Nya: Fanworks may have her be fiercely loyal to her friends.
  • Nya Angst: Very common. Common themes regard her childhood after her parents were kidnapped, not having an elemental power, feeling she can't control her elemental power, and sacrificing herself to merge with the ocean in season fourteen.
  • Bisexual Nya: Bisexual is her most common LGBT sexuality headcanon, with Lesbian Nya and Asexual Nya being much less common.
