Marriage-related tropes are popular in many fandoms.
Different fandoms often have different favorite aspects. For example SGA had many stories with creative alien marriage ceremonies, often in connection with AMTDI, and after the end of the U.S. military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy especially many marriage fics were written. Wedding stories, focusing on the details of the wedding ceremony, are also fairly common in various Tolkien fandoms.
Some slash stories explore the difficulty of getting married for gay couples, while others take place in "gay marriage is normal" AUs.
