Five Reports That Never Got Written
1. Jack considered writing something before he took the pill. Before he went down to visit the prisoner, even. But writing would mean reading, and that would mean remembering, and that would nullify taking the pills in the first place. No report, then, right. Erase everything and go about his business.
2. Mulder woke up to a throbbing in his head. He wasn't at his apartment anymore, or anyone's apartment. He was in a steely room, completely empty. A small grey figure walked in and stared at him. "It appears I trasnported the original rather than the clone," it said as it walked away. He was suddenly back in his apartment, still confused. Even Scully wouldn't believe this one.
3. John stared at the blank screen in front of him. He had told his teammates not to write anything up, that he'd handle it, but nothing was coming to mind.
Sam stepped into his office. "Still trying to figure out how to write about your alien sex ritual?" she asked, half teasing. The look on his face answered her questions.
"It might be better if this mission never happened," he said. It was still a bit painful to walk, or even move his legs.
Sam gave him a knowing smile. "That can be arranged."
4. Zoe's new English teacher had given them all a twist on a classic essay. Instead of the classic 'What I Did on my Summer Vacation' report, it was a report on the most interesting thing she had done the past year. She picked up her cell phone and dialed. "Dad, what am I supposed to write? It's not like I can tell everyone about the stuff I've seen and stuff."
Jack's voice was calm from the other end. "Well, you could always talk about moving down to LA."
5. Janet started up her computer, not wanting to write the report. Daniel was gone. Not dead, just gone. And it had been Jack letting him go. A tear worked its way down her cheek, and she wiped it away as she turned the screen back off. Maybe a paper report would be easier.
Fifteen minutes later, nothing was written. Still. Janet sighed heavily. She looked around the infirmary, which was thankfully empty, and a thought crossed her mind. Daniel hadn't left behind a body. She knew that excuse wouldn't hold up for very long, but without a body there was no proof of death. It worked for a court of law, why not the United States Air Force?
