Prompts Anything in my exchange letters tag is fair game, but have some lists:
Dichronauts - Greg Egan
- FIC of Raina and Amina's journey to the Northern Steamlands, or some post-canon adventure.
Kerbal Space Program
- FIC or VID of the mad, bad space adventures of Valentina Kerman, certified badass and probable adrenaline addict thrill seeker! Batshit space missions to Mun and beyond on a spacecraft made entirely of duct tape? Having to capture asteroids to redeem the reputation of the space program? Advancing the knowledge of Kerbalkind on a solo mission to Eeloo? Building a base on Duna?
The Goblin Emperor
- FIC of Arbelan Drazharan getting full custody and control over another person, and (ab)uses her position of authority. Psychological mindbreak? Porn soundtrack noises? (Bondage, breathplay, knifeplay, spanking, riding crops, object insertion, Barizheise armfish, the works.) Ships: Arbelan/Nedaö Vechin, Arbelan/Stano Bazhevin, Arbelan/Aina Shulivar
Machineries of Empire
- FIC of Devenay Ragath and his little rebellion.
- FIC of Rahal Zaniin of Minang Tower's backstory. Or post-canon consequences of her speaking to heretics.
- FIC or ART of Kel Aurel/sin x², Aurel playing the viol and sin x² watching.
Memory of Water - Emmi Itäranta
- Worldbuildy FIC where Sanja goes to investigate the lands mentioned in the recordings from the Twilight Century, with either Noria or Noria's mother.
- FIC of other intriguing discoveries from the plastic graves, Sanja and Noria.
- Does the war being waged elsewhere connect to the potentially-drinkable water? FIC please, with characters either canon or original.
Nirvana in Fire
- FIC of Xia Dong investigating something as an officer of the Xuanjing Bureau, whether it be the Duke Qing case or something not seen in canon. I'd love something about Xia Dong's strategizing and placing clues together, as well as in-depth worldbuildy stuff about how institutions and trade and taxation etc work.
- FIC of Marquis Yan & Yan Yujin; Marquis Yan being a good dad to Yujin!
- FIC or ART of Xia Dong and Mu Nihuang becoming army pals. The wuxia equivalent of milSF, discussing about logistics, whatever. Happy with both gen and F/F.
- ART of Mu Nihuang in her armor, perhaps on horseback.
- ART of Meng Zhi in his armor
- ART of Meng Zhi/Mei Changsu
- RECS for (LINKS to) (fan)VIDS with English subtitles. Like this one.
Vorkosigan saga
- FIC of Lady Alys solving some sort of domestic intrigue. Spy thriller plot? (Prefer a supporting cast of mainly women, with Simon as the token dude. :P)
- FIC of Miles Vorkosigan on one of his high-adrenaline hijinks adventures. An unmentioned Dendarii mercenaries adventure, some business as Lord Auditor, busman's holiday -type stuff, etc.
- FIC of Martya Koudelka: Who is she? She and Olivia are the less developed Koudelka sisters. She's interested in Enrique and his research – is she interested in science more generally?
Likes:
- SCIENCE :D
- narratives about women and their relationships with each other, whether platonic or romantic (so feel free to make everyone a woman, regardless of singer gender)
- achieving greatness via wanting to do something, then doing it so hard one becomes great in the process
- competence porn
- loyalty kink, especially when the loyalty is so huge it gets in the way of rational thought and risk assessment
- tea
- humor
- snark (if mutual)
- fun
- zaniness
- exposition
- loving descriptions of landscapes, space, whatever
- enthusiasm
- Shown Their Work details
- xenobiology
- generic nerdery and science feels
- academia and assorted academic pissing contests and infighting when played for humor
- transhumanism
- happy endings
DNW:
- Holiday greetings, generic or otherwise – I don't celebrate anything
- dystopias of any stripe
- major character death
- humiliation
- embarrassment
- incest
- pregnancy/children/motherhood
- violence to fingers or eyes
- noncanonical permanent disability or the acquiring of such
- animal harm (especially negative outcomes for horses)
- sexism, homophobia, racism, etc and narratives built solely around them
- Christianity
- plots based entirely on miscommunication
- pure introspection/character study/slice of life or angst
Anything extra:?
- Recs for in-depth nonfiction books about infrastructure engineering, design & maintenance (especially the less glamorous stuff like sewage systems). Can be popular science, can be reference literature for engineers (I have access to a well-stocked library).
- A fellow bicultural/2nd gen immigrant as a friend/penpal.
- Recs for ... I don't really know how to phrase this, but "translator's notes" type things for East Asian cultural things. So, um, nonfiction something. "This wordplay is based on this and this" or "this is a chengyu".
- A reference book/site of idioms in a non-European language, with literal translation and meaning.

This room
Is dusty - silent, and no viols sing
Through gloom.
Is vast
And busy with the sense
Of work that goes about its usual ways;
It's just enough pretense
To last
The trick
Is being tools:
Obedient and mute,
An ersatz pair of eyes or hands,
I n v i s i b l e to calendar and Kel.
Tools have no loyalties or plans,
Are silent in dispute...
What notion fuels
A brick
From spark
To swirling ash.
Sometimes you used to play
Concerto phrases rich with strings.
You have not touched these instruments at all
Thirty-one years; they hoard the swings
Of melody, the sway,
Soaring to crash.
Now dark
And what
Is pooled with all Ashhawks
Essentially i m p o s s i b l e to trace.
The cargo airlocks
Hiss shut.
Still here.
And if you play a final note, someone
Will hear.
The hive
(Which has already buried everything
Alive)
Until,
All through this tomb,
The zero hour blinks across displays,
Flames, like equations, bloom
And still.
To rise
Against its wall?
A better wall to build
(From better bricks). As time rewinds,
This day -- subtracts -- the Aerie citadel,
Divides the shared, gear-stripped minds,
Clears globally the field,
Its faulty scrawl
Excised.
But you
Are still our Kel,
Though you may never know
Who honors now your final flight.
It's probably a thing too late, too small
To make a difference, make right
The loss of long ago:
Each self a shell
Which grew
Haze blurs,
Space-bleak, behind your eyes,
Hands moving with an automated grace,
Lost in an exercise,
What's yours
With this,
Duties discharged, all preparations done,
One is

I love your taste in books! Machineries of Empire and Goblin Emperor are spectacular, and I just started the Vorkosigan series in December (I know! I've never read them before! but I love them already!). Yay amazing books!
And since you like academia/infighting/humour, you might enjoy this story of a cat who co-authored a physics paper!

Oooh, that is indeed hilarious and also petty.
And let's be real, part of the reason I sent out a call for co-mods for
space_swap was so I could use "we".Hetherington's ploy to give himself more publicity does seem to have worked!no subject
