Samuel (Fallout: New Vegas)

(Redirected from Samuel Kerr)

Welcome to the 188 Slop & Shop. Like our slogan says, "It's better than nothing."

Samuel Kerr is a merchant who co-runs the 188 Slop & Shop with his daughter, Michelle, at the 188 Trading Post in Fallout: New Vegas.[1]

Background[edit]

Originally from Primm, Samuel and his daughter, Michelle, ran a shop while residing there.[2][3] Due to the prison break at the NCR Correctional Facility, the convicts that followed negatively affected the traffic along I-15, causing it to completely shutdown.[2][4] As a result, the two left Primm around a month prior in search of customers,[3][1] eventually setting up the 188 Trading Post at the point where Highway 93 and Highway 95 intersected.[5][6]

Following the I-15 shutdown, Highway 95 become the primary route for NCR citizens traveling to and from the New Vegas Strip,[4] while Highway 93 was used by NCR troopers traveling between Camp McCarran and Hoover Dam,[4][5] positively affecting their business and providing an influx of customers.[5] At the 188, Samuel co-runs the 188 Slop & Shop with his daughter, taking night shifts while she takes day shifts.[3]

Gameplay[edit]

Notes[edit]

  • Samuel Kerr may begin a "drinking whiskey" animation while simultaneously talking to the Courier.
  • Michelle and Samuel share caps and inventory. They will only sell certain item categories from that inventory. Samuel only sells aid, while Michelle also sells ammo but not alcohol.
    • Caps accumulated via Samuel repairing items are tabulated separately from Michelle's caps on hand.

Quotes[edit]

  • "Welcome to the 188 Slop & Shop. Like our slogan says, "It's better than nothing.""
  • "When 15 shut down, 95 became the route NCR citizens use to get to the Strip - or limp back home, after the Strip's drained 'em of caps. We get 'em coming and going. Coming, the suckers flush with caps they saved to gamble on the Strip... and going, the same folks, but now they're losers who'll trade you the shirt off their backs so they don't starve before they make it back home. Add in the troopers marching back and forth from McCarran and the Dam, and well, let's just say we don't miss Primm."
  • "Guess that makes you a big hero - in Primm. Like I said, me and Michelle didn't sit around waiting to be saved."

Appearances[edit]

Samuel appears in Fallout: New Vegas.

Behind the Scenes[edit]

  • Unused Content In unused dialogue, the Courier could have informed Samuel that they dealt with the Powder Gangers at NCR Correctional Facility if they attacked the prison with the NCR during I Fought the Law.[7]
    • The dialogue checks to see if PrisonBreakStarted is set to 2. In the VFreeformNCRCFScript script, 1 is defined as "Attack in progress" and 2 is defined as "NCR wins." However, the variable is never set to 2.

  2. 2.0 2.1 Courier: "Why'd you leave Primm?"
Samuel (Fallout: New Vegas): "Michelle and I ran a little shop in Primm 'till a prison break north of town spoiled it for everyone. Goddamned convicts just about shut down I-15. When traffic dried up, we took to our heels to find us some customers. I'm not one to sit around waiting to get saved, and Michelle ain't, neither."
