Pacific Ocean

The Pacific Ocean or Ocean Pacifique is a body of water to the west of the United States.[1]

Background[edit]

Before the war, one of the last known pockets of oil was discovered 175 miles off the coast of California. The United States successfully constructed an oil rig to procure the resource.[2][3] The nuclear reactor in the platform created significant levels of pollution in the surrounding ocean water, carried along with the currents, causing ecological damage to the coast of Mexico.[4] The state of Hawaii is located in the mid-Pacific.[5]

Notes[edit]

  • The ocean is labeled on a Capital Post map, to the south of Alaska.
  • President Kimball mentions the ocean in his Hoover Dam speech, noting that "we are the heirs of that civilization, torchbearers eastward of the Pacific, into the darkness of this wasted land"[6] and that "today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevadas, defiant and enduring."[7]
  • Skinner references "slavish socialists" as being across the Pacific.[8]
  • "The Pacific Ocean was much nicer than the Atlantic" is a possible answer during the Pioneer Scout badge exam.[9]
  • On the Dread Island map, the ocean is listed as "Ocean Pacifique ou Mer du Nord."

Appearances[edit]

The Pacific Ocean appears in Fallout and Fallout 2, and is mentioned in Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76.
