Mr. Pollack was an adult chaperone for a group of Early Dawn Elementary school students, attending a field trip to attraction Lamplight Caverns, when the Great War occurred.

Mr. Pollack, along with teacher Carrie Delaney, Claudia, and Mr. Cob, was an adult chaperone attending a field trip for Early Dawn Elementary school students to Lamplight Caverns on the morning of October 23, 2077.[1]
When the lights went out and the caves shook suddenly, Mr. Pollack ventured outside to investigate.[1] When he returned, he reported that he saw mushroom clouds across the D.C. area.[1]
At some point in the month following the Great War, Pollack either died or left the caverns to seek help but, like the other adults who attempted to do so, did not return.[2]
